Common Courtesy - Disc Golf

If you even think your disc will get near someone what's wrong with giving them a heads up. Even if you chose not to do that maybe an apology for almost hitting them may be in order.

This is just my opinion but I think many others feel the same way.

I almost hit Lonelle/Andy's group yesterday(on hole 12) at OTDG. I was yelling "Fore" the second it left my hand. Just common courtesy, and I don't want to see anyone get hurt.

It's a misnomer to beleive that if you yell fore you are absolved of any repercussions

Hm.. Which begs the question. Is it better to not "fore" at all, or give a half assed or late "fore"?

My preferred method is to warn before I throw if someone is in danger.

I used to work on antennas on ships. We were taught never to shout, "heads up," to the deck when we dropped a crescent wrench. Better to get 'em on top of the skull than in the face was the rationale.

misconception perhaps... misnomer, no. altho i do hesitate to ask what sort of repurcussions there would be... like, you have to kiss their owie if they got hurt?

i try not just to yell "fore" but like, "hey you in the black hoodie and white knee socks on hole 7 with a half full jubel, watch your face, oh, seriously, duck!!!" because otherwise no one really pays attention nor do they know who you are talking to...

... i think the more people talk about these type of etiquette situations the better. and not just on the forum, but also to kindly inform newbies and casual groups you run across on the course... i will stress again, kindly and respectfully... yes, we wish they knew better, but they don't, but they certainly won't pay you any mind if you're aggro about it yourself.

I'm just glad I looked over when I did. Had a few seconds to drag Shannon out of the way before the disc slammed her bag and creased the hell out her putter. Only reason this pissed me off as much as it did was I've played with the person who threw the disc and they seemed like a stand up person who had courtesy. Ok, it didn't help that this person never said a single word about almost hitting her. Needless to say I am quite disappointed in this person and have lost alot of respect.

Ok, rants over. Have fun, play nice and see you at hornings.

The ones that get me are "the plunking's" you take while volunteering.

So I am actually running the weedeater at The Tac on hole 8 left edge middle third.

These branders walk off 7. The next thing I know is I am getting smacked in the jaw with a # 2 Driver. The guy apologized and said he holler fore but?

I know he heard the wacker but there was no way I was going to hear him.

Lesson If you see volunteers working on a hole skip it or come back and play it later.

Agreed Jub...and as a seasoned volunteer, you should know better...they're noobs, hello...

and this coming from a guy who was hit in the back of the neck when a seasoned player figured he could throw past me, and the other members of my group walking through a hole because there was a track meet using hole 1 at Pier...simply put, don't expect anyone on the course to understand course manners, just safer that way.

I think people mistake you for park workers on the public payroll, and as such consider you thier bitch's, and they expect you to be grateful for finding thier discs, even if its lodged in your forehead.

Me, I'm out there in a black tee shirt with a bandana and a really big weed whacker. I look like a vato, or a con on work release. Nobody throws at me.

So it's either the vests, or you and Erick are just too damn friendly lookin'.

Hmm, now I'm wondering if I didn't yell Fore at you playing TDG at North Bonneville Will? I did have several bad throws out there. But I don't recall seeing any land near you, or getting the stink eye from you or Shannon. Guess I will see you at Hornings on week #3, you can reprimand me out their if it was my fault. I personally like to yell "Fore" as it is proper etiquette, and I always put my arms up while ducking to protect my face and neck when I hear it. I would rather look goofy then be prostrate on the ground bleeding. I grew up playing ball golf, and got drilled once when I was younger. I think that was my first of many trips to get stitches as a child.
