?

I have no idea what's going on, maybe you could shed some light on it?

Maybe you have no idea what you're talking about, Jub. I will tell y'all that fundraising has begun, but Joe wants to keep it in the local business community. This is his project, not mine and not anyone elses. This is a project that the eagle scout candidate must spearhead from beginning to end. I am simply the course architect and was also enlisted to help sell the idea to the city council by presenting useful facts and potential numbers.

The project was almost totally scrapped when the benefactor made a surprise visit to the park and decided the park wasn't worthy. I managed to save it by asking a few questions and sending him a detailed map...turns out he never got out of his car to walk around and thought the whole course was going to be in the trees by the parking lot.

Joe does have a deadline approaching. If he doesn't meet it he will not get his rank. I believe it's in July. He's a great kid and I believe we'll be playing golf by summer.

If there's any difficulty raising funds, perhaps you could suggest a fundraiser tourney with temporary baskets + raffle/basket toss. Maybe local businesses could be offered some sort of advertising with hole sponsorships(maybe their business name on the permanent tee signs)?

*After posting, it occurred to me that this is a 'rights of passage' sort of thing for the scout. I'd assume this means that he's supposed to work independently for the most part. Maybe you could inform him of this site/thread so that he could use it as a resource.*

Just throwing some ideas out there... I'd be glad to help with installation as well, as long as Johnny keeps both of his socks on.

Does that spray really work?

I would totally be willing to come and play in a fundraiser and I would even sponsor a hole. I also concur with Toby in that I would be willing to help out in installation as long as Johnny one-sock doesn't show up.

Well I hope everything works out and things getting rolling on this. I would love to join any work parties that may come. If anyone hears of one coming up please post it on here since I have not been able to really find any other information on the course.

Toby, I see no difficulty in raising funds. The baskets are donated, so Joe is soliciting for tee signs, collars and concrete. He felt $125/hole would cover it. I gave him some leads and will be buying a sign for my own business. They will be the DGA split-panels with ads on one side and the hole description on the other.

Joe's aware of the disc golf community and the resources we can provide, but when we talked about work parties he felt he wanted to lead his troop in what little has to be done. There're some blackberries that need wranglin' around hole 4-6, but that's about it. If he needs our help I'll make sure to post it here. I hope to be on hand to simply show what we need cleared and where the baskets and tees are going. The tees will be natural at first but I'll lay in stall mats later on most likely.

NBDG, this is the place to read any updates. I've been updating only when there is real news to report. Joe wants to wait until things dry up a bit out here, and I support that decision. If anyone would like to see the layout I will be available tomorrow (Sat the 16th). Send me a pm. I welcome any input you may have before installation.

Great job Getty and thanks for the update.

I am also working with a high schooler who is trying to get his Eagle Scout rank. His project "may" be getting concrete tee pads at Lake Stevens. My only role is helping him work with the city and to make sure the pads will be done correctly if it gets approved.

Jub, why the cheap shot on Getty? Other than the fact he talks with a funny wee-see-anna accent, he's a pretty good dude.

We are now shooting for a July 4 grand opening since that is a huge day in this small town. The whole town opens its doors starting with a morning parade, tube races down the Tolt River and live music with fireworks in the afternoon/evening. More news as it developes...

I walked around with Joe yesterday and designed the tee signs. We've zeroed in on the weekend of July 2-3 to pour the concrete for the signs and baskets, hoping we can put them in the ground Monday, July 4 for the community bash. Joe has raised most of the funds and will enlist his troop to clear what little brush needs to be whacked. More later as it happens...

Nope. I get to hear lots of excuses though. It will be in before school starts back up, however. If you'd like to see the layout gimme a call at 425-830-3472.

Well thats to bad the course was not able to be finished. That would have been a great way to open it up on the 4th weekend out there. I guess I can make the trip to Auburn a little while longer for my closest course. Hope you start hearing less excuses and seeing some actual progress soon. Thanks Getty!

Man, did we make progress. 9 brand spanking new DISCatchers are now residing in a secure place in Carnation! Surprised the hell out of me when the kid called me this afternoon to say they arrived. Eric and I will be out staking the tees and targets tomorrow and getting the yardage for the tee signs that get printed Saturday. Joe has enlisted his football team to do the heavy lifting and blackberry removal on Sat the 23rd. If I can bury the anchors beforehand the course will be playable that day! More later as it seems to happen...

Today we planted 9 sleeves, cleared many bushells of blackberrys and dug holes for the signs. Sunday (tomorrow), we'll install the poles for the signs. The hard work is done. Baskets go in the ground Tuesday after 4pm. The race will then be on between Silly and JR to see who can get the first review up on DGCR. I think y'all are gonna enjoy this little Carneypatch. I might even design the back 9 tomorrow!
