I thought that the whole thing was about as exciting as watching paint dry. The first 3 hours of the meeting were a battle between the immediate park neighbors and the proposed parking lot improvements. It seems that this park is a fave spot of the Reynolds High kids to park and screw all night long. They whined about people in the park after hours and then whined about adding more lights to illuminate the parking lots...
If you go to the Troutdale Parks Master Plan
here and go to Appendix A you'll find a nice table that summarizes all of the parks in the area by type and lists the acreage of the parks. But after looking at the various options for dg in these parks there really isn't a good option (one with enough space) unless you look at the group of parks designated as Natural Areas.
And while Sunset Park looks like it could hold dg, it would be hard pressed to be as challenging as Orchard Park. Even though a pitch and putt course would still be a great addition to the area, the neighbors appear to believe that this Community Park is really a Natural Area (you know, because SOO many natural areas have vast mowed fields...

) and don't want disc golf in their personal private backyard..errrrr...park.
This wasn't my dog in the race so I wasn't crushed when they decided to recommend that disc golf not be added to Sunrise Park. I was however encouraged that they passed a resolution that they'd like to add disc golf to SOME park in the Troutdale Park system. So they are looking for input from the disc golf community on recommendations for sites that would work for disc golf in their park system.
At least it was good experience to see how the Troutdale Parks Advisory Committee operates and meet some people who work for the city of Troutdale. I was just going to spend the night smack talking on the Team Disc Golf thread anyway, so it wasn't a great sacrifice to attend this meeting.
