I'd say both of those are valid criticisms. I don't think it's overly complicated, but there's a whole lot of functionality that the designer put in there that doesn't seem as intuitive as we're used to. I think an improved GUI would help a lot, and also further integration of peripherals (mouse, game pad, etc.)
And Jub, I passed on your comment about the "throw hard and make it" aspect to Gordon, and he said that you can adjust the difficulty of the chains, move it up, and you have to hit dead center for the disc to stick. Turning off the aiming crosshairs will make it that much harder.
It's not a perfect game, by any means, and there are some wrinkles to be ironed out, but I think it's off to a great start.
