Exclamation What SSA should we use for Hornings Canyon Course?

This is a first time Team Disc Golf has ever played Hornings so we need to come up with an SSA for the Canyon Course.

There has been a PDGA event held there before, cant you just go off of those ratings and SSA? The Slosh 1 last year was held in Nov with pretty similar conditions, but not the exact same holes. I would say go off of that.

as far as the strokes per rating thing, I would say go as high as possible. We are taking on Big Winsd, and I want to take on Victor and have a chance at a win

That tourney had some of the state's best players who tore it up to the tune of an SSA of 47. Now what do you think?

Doesn't an SSA indicate how a 1000 rated player would shoot on a course? If so, the SSA for the Canyon course is under 50 (short or long basket positions). Take a look at the Slosh tourney scores and the casual rounds posted on DG Scene.

I don't think it would be necessarily accurate to look at the scores posted on the Disc Golf scene. I think a lot of people tend to only post their better scores and not their crummy ones. I have to admit I do that.

The courses at HH as I understand them (in order of installation):

Canyon Course (middle difficulty)
Highland Course (easy course)
Meadow Ridge Course (difficult course)

I am leaning towards an SSA of 48-49 and 11 RP/Stroke.

1) I don't think that we will tear it up quite like last year, and a few holes have harder pin locations

2) To offset that, all of the holes have great tee pads that they didn't have last year

3) Our ratings are probably somewhere between 2 & 4 strokes higher than they should be

Trying to take all of this into consideration, I think that the SSA will be somewhere in the 49-50 range.

One good thing about this weekend is that we will have many more players playing at the same time so this could be our most accurate ratings of the entire year.

I'd still like to hear anyone's thoughts on the Canyon Course SSA.

And then we'll get to the extended Highland layout if G ever comes up with a map for us...

Crist and I voted for 10 without knowing the scores from previous tourneys. Knowing how those have played out and everything you pointed out, I say go with the 11. I think it is a fair compromise of what the majority have voted for (not that many have actually voted) and what tourney results have shown.

Wasn't Sorosis an 11? I don't think the Canyon course would compare with Sorosis. The Canyon cousre does have two par 4s. Anyway I still vote for 10.

Cool error on the high side...

Isn't the canyon course a bit on the easier side of the courses team disc golf will visit this year--won't lower rated players likely score higher than they would elsewhere? THIS MAKES IT HARDER TO MAKE UP STROKES GIVEN FOR HANDICAPS. 12 or higher RP/st gives higher rated players a frickin chance...

Of course all the lower rated players want fewer RP/st

I know of high 700's all the way to mid 900's that are all voting for 10. Seems pretty fair to me.

Shouldn't higher rated players be able to play better?

Right now, I think that ratings for TDG are super inflated, between 30-40 points in my opinion. I say let's make it more challenging. My vote's for 12.

I could care less. We're gonna tame some Dark Horse no matter what it is.

I'm putting my vote up on the auction block. Beer me on Sunday for my vote today.

That second sentence was pretty funny.
