I whole heartedly agree. For those of us with existing PDGA ratings, the Pier round should not be weighted half. I like the suggestion by Pizzel above.

I have been playing with the data Jordan provided earlier in this thread. It looks to me like we may want to consider a progressive system in weighting ratings. By progressive I mean increasing the weight of a players existing rating each time they play a round:

Round 1
((PDGA Rating X 4) + Round 1 Rating) / 5 = New Rating

Round 2
((New Rating X 5) + Round 2 Rating) / 6 = Newer Rating

Round 3
((Newer Rating X 6) + Round 3 Rating) / 7 = Newest Rating

etc.......

This will take a little extra work in tracking, but I would be willing to help out.

Yo Jordan.....I will get you a copy of my Excel sheet later today.

That is an interesting idea, but wouldn't the change in the ratings be minimal after half way through the season?

And while you may be looking at it as coming from a current PDGA member with a rating that's been determined by many PDGA rounds, your rating may be very accurate and weighting should be used. But many players in TDG don't fall into that category, and I'd rather come up with the best system to adjust ratings for players with no PDGA rating than worry about what happens to the PDGA members who will have their base rating changed with the next ratings update.

If we are going to up the complexity of the ratings, then I'd rather implement a system where you get less benefit from a round played below your rating than penalty for a round played above your rating...

VAPOR TRAILS!!!
Last year Sorosis played to a SSA of 49.38 so we will play with 11 rating points/stroke this time.

Next year we'll play with the average SSA after we GET an SSA for this year's rounds!

I think that either: you have a low opinion of your system or you are VASTLY overrating the BCS system.

Jordan--

I agree that those without PDGA ratings should be treated differently. The formula for those without ratings should look like this:

Round 1: Round 1 Score = New Rating

Round 2: (New Rating + Round 2 Score) / 2 = Newer Rating

Round 3: ((Newer Rating x 2) + Round 3 Score) / 3 = Newest Rating

etc....

This is just averaging all rounds played during TDG. This type of system, over time, should decrease the effect of rounds well above or well below a player's average.

G got us a file of all OR/WA PDGA members past and present with latest ratings from Chuck. Pretty freakin' sweet!

I have no problem giving this system a try this year. Shoot me the file and I'll get all of the rest of the mess ready. Thanks!

Due to Rockwood Roughneck's team captain's relocation I decided to let them change their roster. My reasoning is that we really haven't played any matches yet. Once we play this Sunday if someone moves or gets hurt there are no changes to the team roster and you will short that player.

Here's the new Roster:
Mike Nemi 997
Sean Helean 967
Joe Armijo 931
Ryan Williams 920
Zack Murphy 915
Eddie Florence 904
Debbie Nemi 648 6282

Camo Mike has stepped up to be the captain.
Ryan is a current PDGA member.
Eddie is not a PDGA member but played 2 Stumptown events and Calapooia so I averaged all of his rounds to set his rating.

Anybody else ready for some team disc golf...

I have an important question:

HOW WILL THE TIME CHANGE EFFECT THE START TIME?

I mean, I realize that it will feel like it is an hour later, but I wanted to get this conversation started so participants were aware of the fall back and could plan accordingly.

I, for one, am looking forward to sleeping more.

Visiting Captains need to set matchups at 9 so we can tee by 9:30 am! Jeff Hemmerling, Tom T-Ry Rybloom, Rob Ryan, Erik Wilson & Victor Cervantes DO NOT BE LATE!
The funny thing is if they don't remember about time change they will just be there an hour earlier. and probably a little more tired.

That is because Treelove is smarter than I am! It would really be nice to get ready to go early for once. And this weekend we will get the extra hour of sleep to boot!

[Official Announcement]
The Treelove calendar will be the official word on start times for Team Disc Golf 08-09
Start times listed will be for captains to set line ups and tee off will be approximately 30 minutes later.

[/Official Announcement]

So I'll see you all at Sorosis at 8:30am and we'll tee off by 9 am. That should get us done just before noon and ready to roll the afternoon round no later than 1 pm!
