Default Why par 3?

Why does it seem like every hole is 3 par? In the "golf" world, pars change up with diffaculty of the hole.

This is one of the most hotly contested issues that ever comes up on a disc golf forum.

The truth is, most good disc golf courses DO have par-4 and par-5 holes -- and they're scored that way in tournaments -- but during casual play it's much easier to just call everything a par-3 and count from there. And some people get really ticked off about it...

Remember, ultimately it doesn't matter what par is on a hole. The only number that matters is your overall score (stroke count, not relation to par).

OK Erik,
Let's face it using all par 3's makes it easier when counting strokes, and when playing dubs or singles it is all stroke play anyway, so if that makes it easier, cool. Pars higher than 3 speak to another aspect of the game, that of playing the geography of the course. Longer holes that throw in mandos and long up or downhill shots receive a higher par to let the golfer know it just takes more strokes to cover that distance and terrain. Great for when a golfer pit themselves against the course not the group. But when you are taking on the group, hoping they throw less skillfully than you, you count strokes, so...
