hahah, whoa, whoa, whoa, guys, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Yeah, a Puget Sound association could be cool (that could feasibly stretch from Bellingham to Olympia to Port Angeles--might as well just call it Western WA at that point), but that's a little bigger than the scope we're talking about here. Same can be said for a state wide association. True, incorporating all the clubs in the state could yield some high potential, but we gotta get a club here in the Seattle area first before it can be incorporated! (note the title of the thread )

And just because you don't live in the Seattle area, doesn't mean you can't be a member. Heck, if someone from Tuscaloosa, AL wanted to join, they'd be more than welcome to.

And yes, Orion, the Seattle Disc Golf Mafia is a fun name, but I'm not sure how well that'd go over in the eyes of a city council. Unless of course, we could make them an offer they couldn't refuse.

The forces of empire are rising to the occasion. Be careful what you wish for. It will be too late when you smell the rat because the State Authority will have already planted spies in the Seattle Mafia. We will talk about the good old days when this was still a "Family" sport.

On edit:

Dang it! Tim got that posted while I was off searching the internets for a smiley that looked like Marlon Brando with cotton balls in his cheeks.

I spoke with Lowell last night and he's totally supportive of getting things more organized and getting the ball rolling. He's read this thread, and he's in favor of the thoughts I had in my first post. Instead of starting a new club though, he'd like to keep things in the current Seattle Disc Golf Club, but possibly restructure things and get all our ducks in a row. I'm totally in support of that, my only concern with the current Seattle DGC is that it's Terrace Creek and North Park centric. I still feel strongly that a Seattle club should at the very least include those courses plus Lakewood and SeaTac. Juel, Lake Stevens, and Arlington I think could also feasibly fall under that umbrella.

I want to stress that I'm not trying to stage some sort of disc golf coup here, I'm not trying to "divide and conquer" by any means, quite the opposite actually. I know there are a lot of good people in the area--old schoolers, newcomers, and folks in between--that either have done a lot for the scene, or are eager to contribute, and I'd like to see everyone working together toward common goals.

Sounds like a decent thing to do -- sometimes we just need to pump "new blood" to get things restructured and renewed in a way.. so Tim & Lowell -- let me know and everyone else know what's happening. I'm positive that many of us would like to see things click! So - Cheers!

I think assimilating the Terrace Creek/NP club into the new one is a good idea, but I do not want the Seattle Disc Golf Club to assimilate the rest of Seattle.

I don't want a coup here either, but Seattle's DG scene needs a serious shakedown+rebuild. There's all sorts of fresh blood that's eager for an organized outfit to join and help fight the good fight of spreading/furthering the sport here in the Emerald City.

-A common conversation excerpt:

"Join the Seattle disc golf club, it's been around for years and years!"
"Really? Never heard of it."

If that's not a sign of the need for change, can someone point me in the right direction?

Yes! Update! A few weeks ago Andrew R. and I sat down and chatted with Lowell about what we'd like to see happening with the club and he seemed very receptive to our ideas. We're looking to have a meeting sometime soon, after States, but no official date set yet. It will be open to all, so people can voice their own ideas and/or concerns, as well as hear ours. I'll be sure to post more when I know more.

I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member.

Tim, Id like to know about that meeting and try to make it if I can. I would love the SPSDGA to be on board with the north, and help organize any way we can.

Hooray! Thank you, thank you. There are lot of people in the area that will be interested in participating, either in time, ideas or money. I will make more of an effort of investing in time vs. money, but will continue to support with some dollars when I can. Again, the real "heros" of any club are the men and women who spend their time on the course cleaning, maintaining, etc. Hats off to you all (you know who you are ).

Thank Tim for your energy. I will host a gathering at my house, as I've said before.

I agree completely. I'd love to see this happen and I'd be down to help in whatever capacity is needed.
Thanks Tim, for getting this ball rollin'!

Alright y'all, I've been working with Lowell and Tim around thinking about ways to get a little more organized momentum in the Seattle scene. To that end, I've put together a little website to serve as a starting point to increase communication about events/workparties/goings-on - however, I'll need help in making sure everything that is happening locally is on the site.

As the title says, its still very much in development and may go down from time to time as I play around on it. If the club decides to fund such a website, I can keep the popups and ads away for good. The site is at: www.seattlediscgolf.com (I just moved it from the old address)

Tim, Lowell and I are planning on calling together a meeting of anyone/everyone who is interested sometime later in September. I'll post on here and on the website as soon as I know!

I love the idea Tim and would love to support the club in anyway possible. I do think Terrace should be included and maybe eventually Everett once that course is put in. This idea is long overdue and you are just the guy to help start the revolution in my opinion.
