Wow, I've heard of throwing your driving game into the water, but this is a bit extreme...

Wow, what a bummer (but a pretty hilarious one, nonetheless). I've heard that Heeren is one of the cooler upper echelon pros.

He was sure he 'parked' it, but it ended up in the drink?

The part I liked was that he seemed most concerned about retrieving his discs, and he made his tee time.

putting your car in park never guarantees it will stay in one place, hence the use of the emergency brake every time you park it....
anyways, nice to know that david wiggins jr is human afterall, what an epic meltdown for him on the last 3 holes, +14 in 3 holes, ouch...
Dion and Sexton are holding up good, think Kirk got frustrated in the end there... That throw and distance rule is really testing everyone out there... thank goodness the oregon championships at trojan was good practice for our players... maybe jeff hagerty will become twisted next year and make it throw and distance for all OB? hehehehehehe...

I was just looking at the scoring spread between the first round last year and the first round this year to see if the combination of tighter OB and throw and distance has really affected the scores. Surprisingly, it hasn't much. Last year, there were only three scores the first round (59,59,60) that were better than the best score this year (61).

What I did find was that this year, the people that didn't play well, really didn't play well. Much more scores in the 100s this year (9 in the first round) compared to last year (only 3 for the whole tournament).

Just thought I'd share my findings.

Not a good day for the the USDG Championship:

SUV rolls into Winthrop Lake, drugs found
By Kimberly Dick - kdick@heraldonline.com

ROCK HILL --

A disc golf participant apparently left his vehicle in drive when he stopped to take pictures at Winthrop Lake this morning – and discovered that after his SUV rolled into the lake.

Just after 8 a.m., Winthrop police responded to a report of a vehicle in Winthrop Lake, according to an incident report.

Officers saw a blue Ford Explorer in the water about 30 feet from the shoreline, completely submerged up to the hood line and tail lights.

The Wisconsin man, 29, is in Rock Hill participating in a disc golf tournament. He told police he parked beside the roadway and walked to the lake shore to take pictures.

He said a few minutes later he and his passenger heard a loud splash as the SUV rolled into the lake. No one was inside the vehicle, and no injuries were reported.

After pulling the vehicle from the lake, officials discovered the transmission was positioned in drive, the report states.

Police found a bag of marijuana inside the SUV and charged another Wisconsin man with simple possession, said Winthrop spokeswoman Judy Longshaw.

Maybe he's a wee bit HIGHER than those "upper echelon" pros.
Well, some of em anyway.

After two rounds, my analysis shows that this years course is playing about 4-6 strokes harder than last year. The course is a par 68 (last year, a 68 was rated at 1002 for 3/4 rounds). This year a 75 first round is (unofficially) rated a 1000 and second round it took a 74. I'm sure the ratings will continue to get closer to last years as the week goes on.

I think the scoring difference is due mainly to the disappearance of the Buncrs combined with all OB shots played from previous lie. That sounds hellish. I played the course without all the OB once, and it's hard enough that way. I can't remember what I scored, but that's just because I hadn't taken a Calculus class yet, and was unable to add up my score.
