OK, these aren't dyes but I don't like throwing blank discs so I had to put something on them.

Hope you like:

For the sake of Rit on the internet, here's one that came from dgdave's inspiring exclamation: "that shot gave me a disc golf boner!"

You seem to be holding down the PacNW pretty good... I moved to Indiana about a month ago and have no dyeing tools at my disposal I am however thinking of a couple sweet dyes.

As soon as I get my own place and my dye stuff back up and running I'll post some pics on here.

Keep doing what you are doing ChUcK, you are the best dyer I have ever seen. I hope you never give it up!

Default No one is Dying?

I haven't inked one in a while, but here's a few I've done...

I don't use Rit, however. I use an industrial-grade ink that's solvent resistant and a special tape that's a fluoroelastomer film with slicone adhesive. That's what gets the razor-sharp lines.

The Imperial Insignia (Star Destroyer, of course) was a royal bee-ya-ti-cha, only to have it stolen at Highbridge.

In fact, the only disc I still have out of all the ones pictured is the Rebel Warbird (it's on a Crush. I know I know, it should be on a Force, but I already had the Crush and it was crispy white. Now it's all beat up and I don't even throw it anymore because it's too flippy)

I miss the Wraith the most...

So I wonder if you guys could share some of the tools needed to start dyeing. I am only looking at doing black dyes.

hey no problem, it doesnt take that much at all to get started. you need black RIT dye( this can be picked up at most stores, but craft or fabric stores always have this in stock and in a lot of colors). also you will need some sign grade vinyl or contact paper to make your stencil. a exacto knife and a old pot so that you can heat they dye up in. and of course alot of patience and a steady hand while cutting your stencil!

that list is for the dip dye method which is the most comonly used method, you can paint the dye on your discs which eliminates the need to heat the dye up, but this can be more time consuming. with painting the dye on you would still need the material for the stencil if you want sharp clean lines, and you would need rubbing alchohol and a little bit of acetone and of course a paint brush.

hope this helps.

Two Z Reapers

And a Force, Ringer and Aftershock

Just some basic dyes with no real designs in mind, but was a blast and maybe in the future I'll bust out more tools and try some art :?

TREX, I said I wasnt the best. There are many black only dye artists that are much better then me, I admit that. I havent seen anyone around here doing multicolor dyes quite as good as mine. So, in that aspect, I am one of the better dye artists around here, but like I said, not the best

Here's a link for the ink pens I've used (it's the 'degreaser-resistant ink' pens)
http://www.mcmaster.com/#marking-pens/=839i1n
I've tried all the colors on all types of disc plastic and, hands down, black performs the best on the most types of plastic--leaving a matte finish on plastics like DX, Pro-D, S, Power, etc. while leaving a glossy finish on plasics like Champ, CE, Gummi, EvolutionHPP, Supreme and the best results being on Star and Goldline.

And here's the tape (the 'heat-resistant kapton tape w/silicone adhesive)
http://www.mcmaster.com/#masking-tape/=839plf
Burnish your edges and you will get razor sharp results. the tape is slightly stretchy so it will conform to the curved surface of the disc without wrinkling. Plus, the adhesive is very forgiving if you don't press hard on it and can be re-positioned many times until you are satisfied with your lines, then can be pressed into place. Even if you want to go with the hot Rit bath, you will find no better tape to mask off with.

Good luck and have fun!
