I was recently at the Chicago Art Institute and saw this. I think that it is the true beginning of disc golf.

There's a book at the library "Flat Flip Flies Straight" (The History of the Frisbee) and it explains that Disc Golf came from some east coast college students throwing Frisbie's Pie Pans around campus in a game of golf. Great book! Check it out sometime.
