Default Tall Grass Classic - Bud Pell at Ross Farm Saturday July 14th

The West Sound Disc Golf Association is excited to present...

"Tall Grass Classic 2012"

One day event at the Bud Pell at Ross Farm disc golf course.
Come play this course in the height of summer for a great day of disc golf. The title may refer to the tall grass of summer, but I have a feeling the course will be in top shape for this one.

Special Event Layout will be used for this event! Should be a great 18 hole layout to bring out the best potential experience and flow at the Bud!

The Details:
Date: Saturday July 14th
Where: Bud Pell at Ross Farm DGC
time:9:00 am player check in. No pre sign-ups needed.
Format: One round singles

Costs: $10 entry, or $15 gets entry and a West Sound Challenge disc of your choice. (see the disc listings) Value, Value, value!
(An even better deal awaits WSDGA current members playing the West Sound Challenge season with our "season pass")

Sanctioned? nope
Sponsor: WSDGA

Bonus features:
Door prizes by random draw, including 5 custom HyzerFarm dyed discs!
(Thank you HyzerFarm!)
"Bounty" for best score at $50 or greater value
"Ace Prize" at $50 value supplied by event sponsor and WSDGA, so its included at no extra cost.
After round "CTP" for $50 value merchandise

All West Sound Challenge events have round ratings calculated and displayed on website after the event (not submitted to PDGA, but for personal performance tracking)
Placings, ratings, and scores throughout the series will lead to season long performance awards at season final event. Or just come play one or two of 'em and have a blast!

Probably some other cool or fun stuff
And Have I mentioned the discs yet?

Blizzard Wraiths
Blizzard Katanas
Blizzard Destroyers
Blizzard Bosses
Blizzard Teedevils!!!
Star Ontario Roc!
CFR Makos
CFR Vulcans
Metal Flake TFR Roadrunners
Metal Flake TFR Teebirds

This event is the Fourth of 6 events bringing Value oriented competition to the West Sound. Discing at the Depot, HyzerFarm Open, and the flinging Mayan Disc event have already had great success and big turnouts.

That is correct. With everything else our club is doing this year, Whiners is just not going to happen.

Here is hoping for next year!

Update for Maco...

As of our evening club meeting there may indeed be something associated with the Whiners tradition. Keep an eye out for any announcements from West Sound in this area. Something with the whiners title is being considered in one form or another.

The WSDGA has some discussions on the form that Whiners in the Wood III will take this year. It will most likey be a PDGA sanctioned charity event combined with the West Sound Finale and take place at the Bud Pell course using a similar special tournament layout as the Tall Grass Open.

So, for a sneak peak of the new event layout, come play the "Bud" on July 14th.

The layout being used will be a blend of the Blue and Red tees with a few temp baskets thrown into the mix.

More to come later. The official layout being used for the event will be posted at least a week before the event.

Notice: The WestSound Challenge Website is going offline this weekend as Apple drops web hosting from their subscriptions services. I don't think it'll leave a forwarding page, so keep an eye out for the new hosted location and Url when one is established.

I expect many of our posted graphics here on the forum are going to drop off as well.

The West Sound Challenge 2012 website is back on solid ground!

The connecting link at wsdga.org will be updated likely soon.

quick link

But Back to the Tall Grass Open...

West Sound's own Flinging Fireman spent a ton of tractor hours getting the Bud nicely mowed. Its great right now, and will be looking nice for the Tall Grass Classic. Over 50 dollars of diesel fuel went in to the mowing. So, if you like the way the mowed course plays...

Check out and donate a few into the yellow donation tube at the kiosk. Money well donated!

Haven't been to one of these yet, planning on this one. Just a quick question, is it one group of players or is there at least a pro/am split in divisions? I'm assuming it's all one group, just wondering! Thanks! can't wait, sounds fun.

Yes, one division. (except for the West Sound Championships)

Divisions doesn't really matter for the monthly events because there is only one prize based on skill (best score bounty, $50 prize).

Included in the entry fee is the acepot, after round CTP throwoff (3 prizes), and door prize drawing (10 prizes). The overall payout comes in at around $300.

The entry fee is a value by itself with a bonus to possibly earn prizes.

The overall mission is to provide a value orientated tournament to get all skill level players into a competitive round. Round ratings will be calculated for those that care to know how well they did and will be posted on the website.

Points are earned for the players that play in multiple events and used towards the overall series titles in four divisions. See website for more info.

See you this weekend at the "Bud".

and I have it on pretty good authority that there will likely be a long drive contest at this event.....
How is that for a non-commital?
Yardbird, is this official?

Rumor is that there will be a long drive CTP on hole 3a.

Wow!!!!! the "Bud" is looking great.

Recently a swarm of volunteers have been busy getting the course prepped for the Tall Grass Classic. All the fairways have been mowed and other additional areas have been attacked with a weed trimmer. All the dirt red tee areas that are being used for the "special event" layout have been groomed and are playing great.

The three temp basket locations on 2A, 2B, and 3A are marked and visible from the tee.

Go to the WSDGA Facebook page for the special event map (see post #15)

Just in. New added huge sponsorship

The WSDGA has secured two prizes valued at $250. One prize will be awarded as the grand prize in the "door prize" drawing and the other will be up for grabs in the "after the round" CTP toss and open to all the players.

What is the prize? You'll have to attend the Tall Grass Classic to find out.

Want more? A CTP prize on hole 18 has been added to the mix (disc golf bag). Open to all.

Support the WSDGA and play the "Bud" this Saturday.

If you can't make it to the Tall Grass Classic, the next time you play the "Bud" you can make a donation to the course via the recently added donation tube by the Kiosk.

Want to the history behind the above picture with the big rock?

Last night after work, several of us WSDGA members, went out and attempted to level some of the Red Tee Boxes. When we got to the lumpy Red 14 tee and attemped to remove a rock from the middle of the tee, we got a pleasant surprise. The small rock that should of been removed easily became quite large. But, persistence paid off and it took about 6 guys to get this out rock out of hole that was dug and out of the tee box! (thanks to the random strangers we enlisted to help us get it out of the hole!)

The tee is now level and smooth.

The Bud is looking sweeeeet. Extra bonus tractor mowing and in the back wooded holes too!

Those who are coming in the morning, think smartly while parking - we'll need every space!
