Exclamation Tdg 2011-12

This forum is a wasteland.

Anyone think they might want to play TDG next October? I heard some feedback from last year that it was too much. So the schedule if we kept it the same as last year looks like this:

Preliminaries – Saturday/Sunday October 8th/9th: Pier Park – 9a
Week 1 - Saturday/Sunday October 22nd/23rd: Sorosis Park– 9a
Week 2 - Saturday/Sunday November 5th/6th: Horning’s Canyon Course – 8x
Week 3 - Saturday/Sunday November 19th/20th: N Bonneville – 8x
Week 4 - Saturday/Sunday December 3rd/4th: Pier Park – 8a
Week 5 - Saturday/Sunday December 10th/11th: Dabney State Park – 8a
Week 6 - Saturday/Sunday December 31st/1st: Timber Park – 8x
Week 7 - Saturday/Sunday January 14th/15th: McIver State Park– 8x
Week 8 - Saturday/Sunday January 28th/29th: Trojan Park – 9a
Week 9 - Saturday/Sunday February 11th/12th: Adair County Park – 9a
Championships - Saturday/Sunday February 25th/26th: McIver State Park – 9a

A season with fewer events looks like this:

Preliminaries – Saturday/Sunday October 8th/9th: Pier Park – 9a
Week 1 - Saturday/Sunday October 29th/30th: Sorosis Park– 9a
Week 2 - Saturday/Sunday November 19th/20th: N Bonneville – 8x
Week 3 - Saturday/Sunday December 10th/11th: Dabney State Park – 8a
Week 4 - Saturday/Sunday December 31st/1st: Pier Park – 8x
Week 5 - Saturday/Sunday January 21st/22nd: Timber Park– 8x
Week 6 - Saturday/Sunday February 11th/12th: Trojan Park – 9a
Championships - Saturday/Sunday February 25th/26th: McIver State Park – 9a

So what say you all?

I am not sure where my team is at, but if we were to get a team together again I would vote for only a one day championship, or maybe two consecutive weekends one day each weekend. Maybe something like Saturday of the first weekend semi-finals, and Sunday of the next weekend finals? Two days in a row was too much apparently for a lot of teams because both of the teams we were playing basically did not show up.

Putt This is in. Can only speak for myself, but I like the longer schedule. I like playing all the different courses. For some courses it's the only time I play them.

I would like to change the championships somehow. Perhaps only involve the four teams who won their divisions? Asking teams with nothing to play for (positive or negative) to devote two days is probably too much. I don't recall the attendance figures for last year's championships. Perhaps all remaining teams can figure who's going to attend and just find a team to play. I don't know...

I know I would love to play team disc golf this year. Only thing is in February I have to work one day each weekend and would more then likely not be able to do the full weekend of golf for the championship.

So if any one needs a extra, I'm your gal!! 8)

What about FUN? Shouldn't that be enough to play for?

I like the longer schedule.

I agree with you but look at all the no-shows during last year's playoffs.
Apparently lots of others don't agree.

Well then maybe those teams shouldn't be invited back...

We will deal with who gets to play this year in another thread.

There was an idea put forth last year to go to a system that puts less importance on the regular season by making it just a way to seed teams into a multi-week playoffs where any team can win the championship.

This would follow the NCAA Basketball model and not the NFL as I have set it up in the past.

I thought that the year went off very nicely and we only had problems with the finals, so maybe we should give the new format a try.

jordan,

i think you really should do something to figure out a way to avoid the no show situation from last year... because a bunch of people stepped up and were willing to play with me/let me play with them, and because i just love disc golf so danged much, i still managed to have a great time and not feel like too big of a loser with no team to play with or against... but anyway, it's good you're thinking of different ideas to avoid that situation again because that was totally lame... now i will butt out of this conversation since i probably won't be playing team golf again, but had to give you kudos for problem solving...

I am always open to comments/ideas on ways to make this thing better for all involved. Thanks for taking the time to let me know your thoughts. I, too, was very disappointed with the showing for the finals and am looking for ways to change it for next year. And not having you a part of TDG next year is very disappointing.

But even if you are not playing next year please feel free to chime in whenever you feel you have something to contribute. You are always welcome.

thanks, jordan...

it just ended up being too big of a commitment, which in some ways really doesn't make sense, because i golf every weekend anyway... but the obligation to play at a certain park with certain people, no matter what the weather conditions, was a little much for me...

there are a couple teams out there that could make me rethink my decision... pretty sure you know who you are

Default Team disc golf rules!

My Team is in for next season, and since we dominated the Saturday league we earned the right to play on Sunday. We like the longer schedule and I agree with Hemmerling in that I like playing all the different courses in the area. I also think a few tweaks to the playoffs/finals is a good idea. Is it October yet?

I had a blast last year, I'm totally in for October. The Longer the season the better. Milo 2-day finals was grueling, and the no shows really frustrating. But I agree with Emma, I was there to play DG and would have played with any count of people there. That weekend would have been nice to stretch to 2-separate weekends though. Based on the count of people missing I think the vote was with their feet.
