Actually.......
If a person from Medford traveled to PDX two times, (I didn't google it but,) I'm thinking it would be close to a 1,000 mile round trip trek.
Then they would have to : pony up for gas money, find pet/child care, pay for a hotel, or pack up the camping gear and make the trek TWO times.


To Whistlers Bend, I think Seattle is about a 750 mile round trip which is definitely a trek, but, it's a ONE time trek and these folks are ending up at Whistlers which usually makes the trek worth it.
