Drive For Show or Putt For Dough, 17 March 2012, Cascades Gateway

The "Drive for show or Putt for dough" disc golf tournament is the brain child of Chubbyman. He wanted to force players to putt in a stroke-play format. This is how it works;

-Players will receive a glow Aviar with the players pack.
-The Aviar is the only disc a player can putt with.
-Putting zone will be inside a 75 ft circle around each pin.
-Players will get 2 shots outside the putting zone.
-2 rounds of 18 holes, total strokes inside putting zone counted.

-Prizes will be awarded in each division.
-Playoffs in the event of ties.
-Ace pot in effect!

There are 6 divisions of play
1) Open
2) Open women’s
3) Masters
4) Advanced
5) Intermediate
6) Recreational

This tournament is limited to 50 players total..... so register early!!!!

You can pre-register by sending Bill Harpster a note on discgolfscene, http://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/Drive_For_Show_or_Putt_For_Dough_2012 or you can shoot him an email at radiantfloorsandmore@yahoo.com please include your name and division you will be playing in.

How many strokes if you throw 1 drive, 1 upshot, and 1 putt in the PZ?

chubbyman November 14th, 2011 11:09 PM

If your drive lands outside the putting zone and your upshot lands in the PZ then you put your putt in that would 1 shot, anything outside the PZ is a free shot but you only get 2 shots outside the PZ per hole. I hope this helps, looking forward to making people strategize whether they are going to go for it or if they want to lay up then make a run at it and possibly make it or have to single putt. You should come out and try it. We are going to have fun I guaranty it.

DexterHawk November 15th, 2011 08:01 AM

What if you can't get it in the PZ in two shots?

chubbyman November 15th, 2011 08:26 AM

Then you take a stroke, but it shouldn't be an issue though.

TreeLove November 15th, 2011 01:38 PM

If you string a 75-foot (radius) circle on every hole, that will require 8478 feet of string! :o

chubbyman November 15th, 2011 02:42 PM

LOL thanks for that info Treelove.

chubbyman November 15th, 2011 02:43 PM

So Treelove can we count you in or what?

TreeLove November 15th, 2011 07:57 PM

Too soon to know yet. I am interested, that much I know for sure.

chubbyman November 15th, 2011 10:43 PM

So, if I go for an ace and miss the ace, but make the putt, I get a stroke. If I whack a tree and land 100 feet away and then make the 100 foot upshot, I do not get a stroke exactly as though I had aced from the tee pad. Sorry, but this does not make sense.

Players should just be throwing to the putting zone but not throwing into it so they can have a chance for making the 75-100 foot shot and zero strokes. Doesn't sound like fun.

Bruce November 16th, 2011 05:41 PM

Or an actually ace -1 stroke!

chubbyman November 16th, 2011 08:16 PM

Well the challenge is do you go for it or not, it will be a challenge. Sorry you don't find it interesting.

chubbyman November 16th, 2011 08:18 PM

If you make it from outside the PZ you do get a zero (not an ace) an ace is an ace.

Kenny B November 17th, 2011 05:17 PM

Is the putting zone 75 foot diameter or radius?

chubbyman November 17th, 2011 07:48 PM

It is a 75 foot radius around the pin.

REDFIVE November 17th, 2011 09:41 PM

Interesting. I like the creativity but it appears that the best strategy would be to lay up under the pin at all times and hope to shoot an 18. If someone can beat that so be it. I would use my two shots to get as close to the circle as possible or just at or inside 100ft. Then I would put it under the pin for a tap in. Again I like that you are trying to do something new but maybe 75ft is a bit too far away to tempt gunning the basket. 50ft I would run every putt and hope for the best. You are onto something though.
