Regional Club Tourneys?

Have we ever done any regional DG club against DG club tourneys?
I know team golf is alot like it, but it could be really cool to have some club tourneys as well. FI the top rated players in each division in Stumptown would take on the top rated players in each division in Willamette.
I don't know how it would all work, but it sounds hella fun and could really build club enthusiasm and club pride.
Just wanting to establish a discussion about it.

I apologize. I too don't Facebook or Twitter so, what does DGOD mean? Is it a club? Is it club related? Does it have something to do with my question to start this post? Please help an old non-techie out here.

DGOD is a local (Portland) disc golf club. It stands for Disc Golf Or Die.
Try to keep up, Grandpa.

one of my favorite sayings is "I would never join a club that would have me as a member."
However, Can we get a discussion going about this or is the clear lack of discussion my answer?

Would you be interested in bringing a team out here for a weekend club championship?

Rebecca November 12th, 2010 10:11 AM

I'm all for this idea.

It would also let the clubs interact on very common ground. Something that hasn't happened but needs to.

Someone just needs to start it. It could be one tourney or a few but it just needs to be in a central location to encourage the clubs to participate.

Keep me posted----a few of us have talked about it before but I think it needs to happen.

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking 7-10 person teams, with a balance of players (something like 3 Pro, 2 adv, 2 women, 1 master, 1 grandmaster). A two day event, at a rotating course each year.
Awfully tough to pick someplace that's close for everyone, so why not switch it around? Each club could take turns hosting it.

$200 per club entry fee ($10/person). Payout goes to the top 2-3 teams (depending on turnout) for their club.

Kent - I'm in if you are. Want to organize this with me? Maybe shoot for April?

Scott is the 2nd person that has raised his hand to help develop this.
How about this, perhaps a committee approach would work. Send me a PM if you are interested in being a part of the committee that designs and implements the format. I can facilitate a tele or web conference for those who would like to be a part of the committee and live out of the area. I think 5 people max. I have 3, need 2 more. First 2 that PM me are in. GO!

Really? A five person committee to run a non-sanctioned one or two day tournament? Seems a bit excessive, doesn't it?

ScottW November 12th, 2010 02:38 PM

Sounds like a similar idea to what was recently held in Hot Springs, MT. The Northern Rockies Team Challenge was a 2 day event. First on Sat. was a regular ol' C-tier/Sunday qualifier. For those who were on a team They received a seeding number based on how they finished Sat. within their designated team then on Sunday it was only team competition where the seeded players went head to head Sunday to compete for a team title. Check out the Garden City Flyers Website, here's the link directly to the topic:

Sounds like a really cool format and I like this format idea better than individual series events.

I could actually see your facial expressions when you posted that. it looked something like :rolleyes2: or maybe more like :nono: what I was hoping for was  and  I am not convening a committee to run one event. I am convening a committee to develop a strategy for a long term, on going, annual series of Rad inter club, Inter state disc battles.
My thought was to have this be a new method of creating some healthy rivalry and club pride on an on going basis. Something that club members really get vested in.
