The ball golf too?

Yardbird September 17th, 2010 10:55 PM

Please tell us more. Why? Lack of use? or was the combined use with the ball golfers too much?

We stopped by on the way to the 'Earner last weekend. It's under new ownership, the ball golf is still there, but no baskets anymore. RIP Skyline, I hardly knew ya. :(

That's too bad, I liked renting a cart and playing plus the course was pretty fun. :(

Thanks for the update. Sad, sad, sad. I only played it once and wanted to go back. He who hesitates is lost...:(

Adam Schneider September 18th, 2010 05:30 PM

So what happened to the baskets, I wonder...

A local disc golfer was here today and told me he'd asked the new owner of Skyline about the disc golf course. The owner said he's thinking about putting disc golf back in, though probably with a different layout, intending to go into areas undeveloped at present. He said the owner is responding to many telephone calls he's been receiving from disc golfers inquiring about the course.

Just thought you might be interested.

a) "Just thought you might be interested?" or
b) "Call, write, and email the new owner, and encourage disc golf!"

?

B!

How much "undeveloped" space do they have??

c) Make sure he does it right.

Mud has its own issues with the loss of the tractor. For me, fixing the tractor (or replacing, if it is not fixable) is job one at the moment. The grass is already starting to grow. Firewooding has come to a halt and both course and non-course jobs for Ol' Bob will be backing up fast as winter winds down.

I don't know. There was that woods by nine and ten, and the thicket on the left on fifteen and sixteen. I don't know what else or how extensive their holdings were in those areas. With Sean and his family gone, there is probably no one there who is a disc golfer to do it. I would think they are going to need some input to get it right.

Another thread by Hippy007 shows a real estate listing for Skyline.Apparently,it's up for sale. The listing says it's a 9 hole golf course. It's actually 18,but I was thinking....if you take out 9 ball golf holes you would have plenty of "undeveloped" space to put in 18 disc golf holes.I was lucky enough to play Skyline last summer before it closed and I thought it was great. How cool is it to cruise around in a cart and besides, had I walked it, I would have only been able to play 1 round instead of the 2 I got in.Also, Sean was really cool and drove me over the entire 18 holes to show me the layout before I even got my bag out of the truck.

Adam Schneider March 5th, 2011 09:43 PM

It was only 9 holes of ball golf.

I think there were two tees per green, or two holes per green so it played like 18.

Prezactky correct.

So, it's back on the auction block again? That piece of land could become home sites in a blink, given the right economy. I heard a while back that golf course closings were rampant. The only going industry around here seems to be logging, the gas drillers having moved on for now, who could make a go of it with a golf course? It could make it back in better times when Crown Zellerbach was local royalty, but now? I don't know how it's going to shake out.

jeffmonty March 6th, 2011 02:07 PM

Sorry for throwing bad info out there, folks. It sure seemed like there were more than 9 stick golf holes.I guess it's tough to make a go of it out there due to the lack of a population base close by.It seemed kinda isolated.
