  • Original CE plastic questions?

Sorry if there are posts on Champion Edition Plastic, but like most forums the search function doesnt work as well as people hope...

Anyway, I was gifted a Champion Edition Leopard all the way back in 2001 I think it is a first run. It is Red and has a blue stamp... well what is left of it I loved that disc and played with it a lot. Of course I am kicking myself now because I see them going for lots of bucks on ebay.

Anyway I am interested in getting more info about the CE line so I can understand what I am getting as far as 1st runs, 2nd runs, etc.

So I found a swedish website that has some info on the subject, but I was hoping someone could shed some light on the subject.

    So my basic questions are:

    1. What colors go with what run. I think red is first, and yellow is second, but I really have no clue.

    2. How is the plastic different from current champion plastic

    3. Is there a website that has a price guide for these discs... that is written in english.

    4. Why is it so hard to find info on old discs?

Thanks for your info, also if anyone would like to get rid of any CE plastic I might be interested... Rid of HA!

You might look in to CFR Champion Glow Leopards as a reasonably priced alternative to CE plastic. Champion Glow is stable, durable and much more readily available.

I know some people will argue against this point, but I'm think getting addicted to hard to find, expensive plastic is a recipe for disaster. Trust me... my own "issues" with 1st run Sidewinders & Gators has me speaking from experience.

PS: If Spider-Dan ever offers to show you his trunk, just say NO!

Yeah getting addicted to this stuff can be bad, but I am really only interested in the Champion Edition's so that at least narrows my collection down to about 10-12 discs, if you don't count all the different Rocs. Too bad they are some of the more expensive discs, but I am not too worried about used or new so that brings the price down some.

From now on I think I am just going to buy 10+ of every first run disc I can find. The 150 investment would be paid back at least 3 or 4 times easy if I chose to sell them! I hear Innova has two new drivers coming out!

So again my main question has to do with the colors. I think that solid red discs were 1st runs, and solid yellows were second run, after that it gets fuzzy and I think that they even switched to normal champion plastic for the last couple runs. Any help is appreciated!

Maybe this Spider Dan Fella would know...sounds like he has the whole collection at his fingertips

The problem with this investment strategy is that there is a lot more supply out there now, and a lot more collectors hanging onto the new stuff. There might be some appreciation on newer first run stuff, but it won't be as big as what you see with first run leopards, teebirds, sidewinders, etc.

True I suppose you would just have to risk it and hope you get one of those runs that people just cant get enough of.

11x Firebirds come to mind, first run destroyers and bosses. To tell the truth I dont even know when those discs came out but, they are some of the newer discs anyway.

Still I am at least going to get 2 or 3 of whatever I really like to throw, because I dont want to find myself in another situation with my CE leopard. Love to throw it but, dont want to lose it. And would it kill Innova to have a little consistancy between plastics and model years!

I am stocking up on Echo Destroyers and David Feldberg 2008 bosses while I can.

I am actually just starting to branch out from max weight and champion plastic. I really love the star plastic, especially the Echo star, and I can definitely throw the lower weight destroyers, and bosses farther than max weight. I helps to have friends with those 30 disc bags, I get to test a lot of discs before I buy them.

Also not to switch gears here but...

What do people here think of Latitude 64, what disc from their line compares to the destroyer or boss?

Also is there any way to "fake" champion edition plastic? Like could someone slap a 2001 CE roc stamp on a newer disc, or would it be too hard to get the original stamp off etc. I already have a Leopard that is for sure legit so at least I have one to compare to. I just dont want to buy a lemon :/

Discmania has a disc that has a Destroyer bottom and a Boss top. Its called the PD2 or something like that. As far as Lat64 try the Halo.

Latitude 64 is solid. The XXX is the over-stable mammoth. For Destroyer, a new Trident or Riot. The only peeps I have seen hate on latitude are the short throwers. If you thumb, the XXX is without a doubt the longest overhead disc....

                      from the Latitude site:

XXX is our extra overstable control driver. XXX is sincerely a disc for the "big guns" and not for children. As already said itīs overstable, itīs a headwind driver, itīs a hurricane season driver, itīs a disc you will love to have when you need to bomb over something, itīs a disc you can rely on in any condition, it will do itīs job every day! XXX is made in our well received OPTO line plastic. Do you have the power to shine with an X-rated disc? If so, good for you!

Trident is an overstable control driver good for windy days and those safe hyzer shots. Itīs not the fastest driver out there but with excellent control and a reliable flightpath this is a disc that will earn a slot in many bags.
With a good power drive it will turn at first but always hyzer back, reliable and controllable to sum it up.
                      Recommended for advanced players.

Overstable high speed driver for the professional player. Riot is a modern disc with lots of speed and control. Very suitable for low hard shots, for example under trees, but also as a main driver on open fields. The Riot is overtstable and will serve you well in all conditions. We rate the stability to +1.5.

The closest to a Destroyer will be the Riot or the Havoc, definitely not the Trident.

Closest to a Boss would probably be the Havoc or maybe the Halo.

Red is definitely first run. Baby blues are second I think.
