What's confusing is that some pros can play am. From the competition manual:

              A. Pros rated less than 970 may now compete in Amateur divisions offered at PDGA A, B, and C Tier events, for which they qualify based on player rating, age, and sex.

              (1) Pro Men and Women
              < 970 can play Advanced (MA1)
              < 935 can play Intermediate (MA2)
              < 900 can play Recreational (MA3)
              < 850 can play Novice (MA4)

< 935 can also play Advanced Master (MM1) if they are of Masters age
< 900 can also play Advanced Grandmaster (MG1) if they are of Grandmasters age

              (2) Pro Women only
              < 850 can play Advanced Women (FW1)
              < 800 can play Intermediate Women (FW2)
              < 750 can play Recreational Women (FW3)

              B. Players are awarded Amateur points for their performance but these points are not eligible for year-end awards or Worlds invitations.

Must a "pro" have accepted cash to be considered a "pro", or is that a myth? Or does it actually go by what the player is registered as with the PDGA: Am or Pro? Or something else?

couldnt agree more. though they may have cashed in a pro division before they have proven themselves overtime to not be able to do that consistently, or not put up good ratings consistently. i think thats why this rule is in place. just stick with the rulebook and everything will be fine. right?

I think that's a myth. You can enter any division that you're eligible for.

as someone who has gone through a lot lately with this rule with Deaf nationals in Texas last month. The rule is clear, but also needs updating to not discriminate against women age protected divisions as Nichola got burned by this outdated rule. But the rule makes sense and is fair for the most part. I'm a pro, I can play amateur until my rating is above 970 and I cannot go to am worlds or USADGC.

Well now I think that the people who run Pomona College are batsh!t insane... and also that I need to get signed up for this thing...
ďI believe I can hit 18 greens, hit every fairway, you know ó Vision 54, which means you birdie every hole, thatís in the back of my mind. I want to putt better, chip better. That day when I hit 18 greens and one putt, Iíll know Iím a complete golfer. Will that ever happen? Iím not sure, but itís possible. The 54 vision is always in the back of my mind.Ē
