It has been suggested that we hold a/some mini disc golf tournaments this year at the BSF. Of course, we always have our singles contest ongoing throughout the event, but this was a suggestion for a random doubles at a set time.

Historically, the ongoing singles contest was free, for donated prizes. This year, I did not collect any donated prizes, but it was suggested that folks could pay $1 for a scorecard, which could be applied toward a standard PDGA payout. Maybe we can come up with enough prizes to offer options: free scorecards for prizes, pay $1 for scorecards toward cash payout. What do you mini disc golf players think? (If you have not tried mini, this is your big chance - it is a ridiculous amount of fun!)

Also, it would be fun to have random doubles events, as suggested. Perhaps Friday night at 6:30, both weekends. I am thinking $4 per team, PDGA payout. As usual, I did not plan this in time for this to be published properly, but perhaps we could do a word-of-mouth, flyers and banners type of promotion. What do you mini disc golf players think?

regardless, be sure to play some mini during the BSF, it is a rare and fun opportunity!

Wait...oh crap...uhmmm....is these tournament really happening? I checked the calendar and there is no mention of these events. I have learned to trust the calendar and now find myself at a crossroads of belief vs. disbelief. Do I go with the calendar, or the calendars creator? Oh man, oh man.

Either way I won't make it from Hillsboro (5:15) to Milo (6:00) in time anyways on either Friday but am hoping to get a round in on Saturday. It's Fling time!!
Huh...I didn't even see that tree.

This maybe a question that has been touched on, but can anyone come play the mini 1 dollar buy in? And will the course still be set up on Sunday? I love me some mini golf

Sorry for the late reply, but yes the course is open to anyone who wants to play. This weekend it will go up as soon as it stops raining Friday and come down before we get kicked out of the park on Sunday.

Of course anything that I say can be overruled by the master of the mini course Mr. Treelove.

Sure, anyone can play the $1 mini challenge. Scorecards must be turned in before the start of the awards ceremony in order to be counted.

Remember there are FOUR mini events, and all are open to ALL persons:

                      1) Play for free all weekend
                      2) Free official scorecard, witnessed round, turn it in to win donated prizes (donations welcome)
                      3) $1 Signed official scorecard, witnessed round, turn it in to win cash, 100%+ payout
                      4) Random Mini Doubles, $2 per person, 100%+ payout, sign up Friday 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM (weather permitting)

I am stoked to hear about all this interest in mini - it is really gratifying to see all the people playing mini, turning in scorecards, etc., especially after all the hard work the Mini-Crew puts in to make it happen!

I played 4 rounds: 61, 65, 67 & 65. But I averaged about 5 OB strokes per round. If you can keep from going OB by playing smart, getting close to par shouldn't be too tough, even if you can't throw it like Nate & Nikko...

I played 1 round last weekend. I won't divulge my score (mostly because we stopped keeping score), but it was nowhere close to that - and I never went OB. I just haven't figured out how to throw a mini. Or putt with a mini. Kind of like my regular game, I suppose.

It's not like I am as good as Nate or Nikko but I'd be happy to show you some tips and throws that work well with mini dg. It also depends on what kind of mini you are throwing, as the stability of the disc is MUCH more important to your throw than it is in disc golf. If you are not using at least a golf weight mini then you might as well be throwing old school Frisbee lids on the big course against everybody's newest/fastest Innova/Discraft dg discs.

Putting is by far the hardest part of the game as the target is so small. So that makes your approach shot VERY important. If you get it close then you don't need to worry about trying to make long putts. In my last round I got a birdie on hole 5 from about 35-40 feet out. It was pure luck that it went in, but even if it didn't it was going to be right next to the basket for the easy 3.

Jeff Elliott is very good at mini, like he needs to be good at another disc skill , because his conservative approach keeps him close to par every time. We tried to design the course so that you can play conservative and still do well, but the risk/reward shot is still there if you go for it.
