View Full Version : 2012-2013 Stumptown Slosh Series
Bullseye

Hello Everyone,
Yes, that's right. it is Slosh time again! As many of you know, we used last years Slosh series as a fund raising effort towards the new baskets at Lunchtime, and we got an amazing response to that effort. The new baskets and a lot of hard work by Dan Brown & the entire DGOD crew have really made Lunchtime a considerably better course to get a round in on.
With that in mind, Stumptown has decided to run this winter's Slosh series as a fund raising effort for the new course at McCormick Park in St. Helens. This new course is being spearheaded by Jared Fischer, Logan Miller & Sean Phillips and looks to be another very cool addition to Oregon disc golf. Please help support this endeavor by attending as many Slosh events as you can manage.
With the exception of the finale at Blue Lake, each Stumptown Slosh event is a 1-day, PDGA sanctioned C-Tier event. Entry fees are $35 and $5 from every entry will go directly to the McCormick Park course fund. The finale at Blue Lake Park will be a 2-Day event with a single round each day using tee times.
Slosh #1 - Sat - 12/15/12 @ Timber Park
Slosh #2 - Sun - 01/20/13 @ North Bonneville
Slosh #3 - Sat - 02/16/13 @ Stub Stewart State Park
Sign-In: 7:30-8:15am
Players Meeting: 8:30am
Tee-Off: 8:45-9:00am
Please Note: I have decided NOT to run tee times for Stub Stewart. Due to this change I will be lowering the total number of slots available for this event to improve the overall speed of play.
Slosh #4 - Sat & Sun - 03/9 & 3/10/13 @ Blue Lake Park
Please Note: Due to what we expect to be overwhelming demand for the Blue Lake event we will be reserving the first two weeks of registration for this event for Stumptown members only. After that two week window, registration will be open to everyone.
I will post more information on all of these events once some additional details are ironed out.
As always everyone at Stumptown Disc Golf would like to thank you for helping us promote disc golf in the greater Portland area.

What the cap on number of players for this one? It seems that with only one round per day and tee times you could get a ton of players through the course.

I'm not sure yet, but I am definitely going to err on the side of caution since we're still not 100% sure how quickly the course will play during a tourney.

yeah, i was totally like "yo, hagerty... the saturday night of the RCO... be extra careful at red lights, don't trust that people will stop at them... to be safe, you should probably stop at the green lights, okay?" (because besides having timely, prudent, and straight up GOOD driving advice, i am also very psychic).

Thank you Stumptown DG... for everything you do!
Right back at you Dan. You know you put in some serious work at Stub and many other courses. Lets all get behind these events and crank out a new course in St Helens.
Side Note****
Stub will present some serious challenges with time of play and daylight. We will continue to work with the rangers to get that place in tip top shape by the time of the SLOSH. I always need help out there in order to get more work done per session. If you see a notice of a work party consider coming out because that is me crying for help. Most items I try to take on by myself with the help of a ranger but some jobs are just too big to do this way.
We may end up needing to cap the field at Stub due to the day light issue and go off tee times. This means that we would not have time to rotate cards, therefore you would most likely play in the same group for both rounds.
I will see the closer we get to the event and how much more clean up we can accomplish.

What is the disc selection?
It says in the first post the entry is $30 but when you register it's $35 is more going to the fundraiser or just the entry going up this year?
Should be a blast and a good warm up for team golf!

I upped the entry fee by $5 this year. Even though these are fund raising events I did want to see the payout a little higher than last year.
Here are the discs I ordered for the Slosh Series this year:
Star: TeeBird, TL, Sidewinder, Destroyer, Leopard, Mako, Excaliber
Champion: Eagle, EL, Roadrunner
Blizzard: Boss, Destroyer, Wraith
DX: Roc, BB Aviar
I ordered what I felt was... a little something for everyone.

I wear my sweatshirt from the north Bonney slosh all the time and I know it had nothing to do with the slosh. I can always use another sweatshirt especially in the winter.
So would there be an interest in getting a regular sweatshirts for an extra $20-$30 or premium Under Armor sweatshirts for around $45 with the slosh logo on them. If I could get enough pre orders the price I'm sure could go down.

I think if we could get enough pre-orders we could make that happen. Not sure if it would be better to put an item up online with a closing date for pre-orders. Then you could just pick them up at the next SLOSH event.

I will make scorecards that will accommodate 21 holes... If they're still in the ground when we get there, then we'll play them all.
We will start checking people in between 7:30-8:15am, with a goal of getting the round started around 8:30ish.

Ok everyone... as usual... the very day I announce an event is FULL I start getting emails, voicemails, txts and personal messages etc from people who really want to play etc...
As much as I hate to say it... This event is already overbooked, and with the shorter winter days we are already going to be seriously pressured for time. So, with that said, there will be no waitlist for this event. If people end up dropping out, it just means we may not be quite so pressed for time.
I'm sorry, but we just do not have the flexibility with this event, so if you are not on the registration list already, there is always Slosh #2.

Any Stumptown member who is current for the 2013 season and hits an ace during the Slosh series gets a Metro parking pass. This includes all 4 Slosh events. Merry X-mas, happy new year and cheers to winter disc golfers who tough it out in the Great Northwest! If you hit more than one ace during the series good job! You still only get one pass. Get your memberships current and good luck!
Note: This is not associated with a membership drive by Stumptown. I am doing this for fun and to add to the ace pot and hopefully hook up some good people.

I will DEFINITELY be checking this, so if you fail to to renew your membership, I fully expect you to bring an extra $10 to cover the non-member fees.
I'm really looking forward to this event. It should be a great time. Also, thanks again to Justin Gross for helping us get this event into North Bonneville.

The next Slosh is at Stub Stewart State Park on Feb 16th, and registration will open very shortly after Slosh #2 at Bonneville has been completed.
The best place to see when stuff opens up is right here. Almost every event get promoted here at some level.

Its just as helpful to have tournament dates as it is to have registration dates right alongside them, especially for events like these that always seem to fill up well before the tournament date.

I'd like to thank Don Stevens, the Mayor of North Bonneville for letting us use City hall for our tournament central. A huge thanks goes out to Justin Gross who set up all of the tee signs and helping at TC. Thanks to Mike Phillips and Jeff Mittl for cashing out everyone's scrip... and finally thanks to Devan Owens for filling out all of the AM scrip for us while we were running around frantically.
Just an FYI to everyone. The Stumptown Slosh series has raised right around $1000 for the new course at McCormick Park in St. Helens. That would not be possible without the support of all of you players... so thank YOU also.

i was fortunate enough to witness... from the comfort and safety of tournament central. i had a perfect view of hole one. Vince Epker was last to throw and parked hole 1. his opponents Roy and Mr Hanley both threw great shots but it was not enough to hold off Vince and his epic birdie for the win! and they just tied for second.

That is what RSS looks like to the naked eye! The easiest way to see the power of RSS is to open that link in Firefox. When you do it will prompt you to create a bookmark. When you save that bookmark and then click on it you will see all the current events listed. RSS feeds are also very friendly with mobile apps like google currents, flipboard and such.
For those of you in twitterdom you can follow us at https://twitter.com/4discgolf where we also tweet all new events/products.
Extra Credit: Create an account at "If this then that" (ifttt.com) and then create a recipe to text or e-mail you whenever the RSS changes or when a new tweet is posted.

Regarding Slosh #3 at Stub Stewart.
We will be racing the sun tomorrow, so it is very likely we will have a short lunch. There is no food nearby, so bring a lunch!!!
And don't forget to bring $5.00 for your State Parks pass. Exact change would be wise since it is self-service.

Well I did not get to play SLOSH 3 at Stub Stewart this year and that's a bummer but I am getting to help my wife celebrate her 30th birthday and that is super cool! I did make a drive up there this morning to move basket 5 to the short position. Long story, but the jest of it is Stumptown needs to donate a set of locks to the State Park for the course with multiple sets of keys.
Anyways the weather was cooperating early. As you drove up highway 47, you climbed out of the cloud bank and when you reached the Hilltop day use area it was completely clear and above the clouds in the valley below. By the time the players meeting completed the cloud bank had pushed up the hillside and engulfed the Hilltop day use area and crept into the trees. Hole 1 was a surreal experience watching the first group tee off into the mist to the image of discs silently cutting through the mist and landing up by the green. I can only image how some of the holes like 3 played in the mist.
Best wishes go out to all that are currently playing in the first PDGA Sanctioned event at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park Disc Golf Course. May your lines be true and your putts be on target.

Great day on an amazing course. Some Fog, Rain, it was cold, warmed up, sunlight peaked through in the PM round, showers off and on all day. Wind picked up in the PM round, fun trying to figure out how to throw at Stub with a crosswind. I wonder if it changed the SSA?
Thank you Mike for moving all the baskets (And whoever else helped). Thank you Hagerty, Emma, Garry, and Mittl for all your hard work too. Stub is definitely one of the most scenic courses we have around here, hard to have a bad day on such a beautiful course.

Hey Jeff and Mike,
I thought it was interesting that the speed of play out there at Stub on Saturday was pretty good, even tho the course is long and knarly. Seems like the length and degree of difficulty may actually spread the groups out a bit. We had very few holes where there was any wait. At least that was my experience. Most tournaments I've played had more waiting. I also know that some of the groups were 3-somes, so maybe that was a big factor.
Great day out there btw. Thanks to Jeff and Mike and my playing partners.

Currently the fee station is closed and only the machine is up. Drive past the gates and down 1/4 mile to the little house on the right. They can get your pass for you. Not sure if that office is open Saturday though? I'd suggest getting it earlier this week.

Just got the email reminding players to check their tee times. It also stated that the park opens at 8 am. Is there any permissible way to get on the course prior to 8 am? Could we possibly ask the parks staff if that was okay for this event? Obviously, not blocking roads, or parking in the wrong area. I just want to warm up a little more than I could at 8, if possible.
PDX_Stu
March 7th, 2013, 07:51 AM
I have a concern with the park opening. There will be a line of cars at 8am for people that are teeing off early and an additional line of cars with people who want to get there early to warm up.
It would be nice if the parks people were aware of this, and can find a way to expedite the entry process at 8am. Else, I will be freaking out to make my tee time - not that this has ever happened before...

First off I would like to say thank you to everyone who came out to play this weekend. I had a great time myself and I hope everyone else did as well. It was very cool to be a part of the first tournament at this great course.
I also wanted to thank everyone for conducting themselves in such a responsible manner this weekend. Being the first event we had a lot of eyes on us and you all came through. It was not lost on the rangers at Blue Lake that we left the course and tourney central area cleaner than it was when we got there.
I will be sure to have the final TD report submitted in time for the update deadline on Tuesday.
Thank you all again for supporting the Stumptown Slosh Series, and the McCormick Park Fund Raising effort.
Thank you very much to Murray and Genessa Prictor for helping at Tourney Central and Sam Gibson for doing our starter duties all weekend.

For those interested, here is the hole analysis for the MPO division. Hole 11 is by far the hardest hole on the course! Eventhough it's just a "par 4" it actually scored higher than two of the three par 5s on the course both rounds.

Also, the SSA was 68 the first round, and 67 the second round, despite the the fact that the MPO division shot slightly worse on the second round.

So to all of you who played any part in making this course and this tournament happen- THANK YOU! :bowing:
Ryan- I'm sure this would be a bit of an undertaking but I'd be curious to see the number of penalties each hole laid claim to. Did some holes wreak more havoc than others? Anywho- not a big deal at all- just curious to see if the same holes that beat me up beat everyone else up as well :headbang:
