I just got through with the summit and I am so happy that Portland is having not 1 but 2 PDGA majors. I am very happy to get that voted through. I will be back in Oregon tomorrow night.
On a side note, I am getting started to put things in motion and the first thing I need is a cool logo.
So I'm asking all artists to submit artwork. I'm looking for an up to date, cool, and vibrant logo for the USWDGC. I would love for this logo to be from someone local but if I don't get any submissions--I will start looking elsewhere. Let me know if you have any questions......
Submit your artwork to rduffy@pdga.com (rduffy@pdga.com)
Thanks,
Rebecca

Rebecca can you provide example of past logo's and maybe some things you did or did not like about them?

Here are some examples of the logos for the past 4 years. I will let Rebecca get on here, and comment on what she likes & dislikes for each logo.
I personally think the 2011 logo looks the best on a disc. I also like how they incorporated their state in the design. It would be cool to have Oregon or the Pacific NW Oregon & Washington incorporated in the design somehow.

I would like something fresh and new........no flowers, butterflies, or bows.
It has been over done.
The logo would go on sponsorship packages , letterhead, and possibly shirts so it needs to be pretty " kick ass". (sorry)
There would also need to be artwork for a CFR so that's a whole new piece of artwork.
I think the logo needs to have USWDGC spelled out because people outside the sport wouldn't know what USWDGC is. I like the past logos (kind of) but they look similar and nothing stands out. This is gonna be the biggest one yet and I just want everything to have a " cool factor".
Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks,
Rebecca

I was thinking something like this...but I might look at some other ones from various PGA championships to get inspired.
If you have any suggestions, let me know.

i like the state of oregon and the rose... the figure putting is a just a touch androgynous, tho... make it a little more girlie, maybe... i would suggest looking at some val jenkins putting profiles, they are beautiful... melody king's got a great putt as well... maybe some "super side arm sara" action... little catrina allen with her wicked reach back... those are some silhouettes that would look awesome...
also... it's "championships" not "campionships"... ;)
oh, wait... were you asking me or rebecca duffy? :p

Rebecca, do you have a rough timeline for submissions; would 30 days from now be too late?

Compared to the other previous years, that seems kinda boring.
Sorry, I know that is a rough drawing, but.........

Personally, I think it should also say Portland, OR not Fairview.

Moving in the right direction.
I don't care for the diagnal line (Mt. Hood) going right through the basket. It comes off a little cluttered.

definitely, scott. i'm glad you said that, because i think what is most appealing about this design is the simplicity...

So I have zero artistic ability in my entire body but one idea that kinda popped into my head was incorporating local native american art somehow? It's definitely unique to the northwest and if we want to stay away from flowery/girly stuff (even though Portland is the city of roses) this may be a more regional representation. Just spitballin' here.

Thanks for the input. I'm personally not a fan of using art from native people out of context. I'll stick to roses.

Disc Golf Live
January 12th, 2013, 03:40 PM
The March episode of Disc Golf Live video magazine is shaping up, so far, as an all-gals affair. I've got my own footage of some of the Open action at Worlds (Fri Am at Eastway and a couple holes during Finals) as well as footage from a MI event called Disc Girls Gone Wild (Final round action and a safari skins game.)
I'm hoping for one more story item to round things out, and I thought a promotion for your USWDGC might be in order if folks on your end are interested in putting something together. Perhaps a tour of a few signature holes from your main course(s) or something along those lines. This would give plenty of opportunity to talk about your take on the USWDGC and what ladies have in store. If this sounds like something the tourney crew would be interested in tackling, let me know and we can talk about details. The video would of course have plenty of value promotion-wise on Youtube and PDGA.com, etc, as you ramp up towards this event.
(Please also extend this offer to any other odd majors you might happen to be hosting in the upcoming seasons. Disc Golf Live is all about raising public awareness of our sport.)
Best regards
Joe
ps. Lots of great community access stations in the NW region, a great way to promote our sport. Copies of DGL are always free to local providers. If you have a station in town, contact them to find out what it takes to submit a show.
