While it is still fresh in everyone's memory it might be interesting to see what score everyone got on their virgin round at Blue Lake. You can include your best (and even worst) subsequent scores.

A 68 I think. Buddy love kept score, and I think he was spot on by my rough estimate, lol. Mr David Smith shot a group best 66, but I cant recall if it was his first round, but I think so.

The course tore me up. All I will say is that I was well into the double digits. Next time I'm getting payback. Fun course.

What's the general consensus on the rough? OB? I still haven't played a full round. Would like to get one in soon.

The consensus on the rough is: stay out of it ;)

I started out hot and then 17 killed me and I ended with a 75. Could have been worse, I lost nothing. Rough treated me well, not to hard for me to find my discs and it seems to be getting trampled quickly.

We played all the rough as OB. Most people I talked to are not.

Is the on/over the path on the right side of #17 OB? What about the path between #1 and #18? My upshot on #18 skipped past the basket and onto the path.

Thanks!

I went back and shot a 72 (which included a 7 on 7 and a 7 on 17--coincidence?)

No, but the long grass will be.

Yes, we're hoping to make the OBs much clearer over time, but obviously it is a monumental task. :)

I shot a 76. If you don't count OB's I shot a 70 even.

The rough is very rough on the back 9. I lost a second run Orange Katana on 13 in the tall tall grass. Even with spotters, disc disappear there. I havn't been back and won't without a group. The rough is just too rough to play without spotters.

Love the course though. Love it. It'll be great in about a year of play and could be one of the best in the world in about 2.

68 for me! This place is epic! Only took 2 ob penalties in the long grass. It made up for going 3 over par at pier for the weekend. A little confidance booster. Thanks to all that made this place happen! The portland disc golf community rocks! New favorite course in oregon!

A 78... Huge blister on my throwing finger...so not too bad! Place is absolutely amazing...feels like I'm ball golfing on a disc golf course which is awesome. Spent hardly any time looking and lost zero discs...not sure what all the fuss is about with the rough. If you throw 50 feet left of center on most fair ways on any course you risk losing a disc. Same here. My only hole i thought was dumb was 17... But honestly if hole 17. Would have been one of my first holes when i wasn't exhausted with a blister i probably would have thought it was a fun challenging hole. Awesome job to all involved with this gift to our disc golf community! Nice shooting Parker

Ollis 63 w/a nice string of 6 birdies in a row on the front
Coates 68 w/a Roc ace run on #10 that hit center nubs & chain, then 4-putted for an exciting 5.

We played tall grass as OB and mostly avoided exciting search parties and lost soldiers w/the exception of Hagerty's trusty Spider.

Much thanks goes out to everyone who worked so hard on this course; it is a true joy to play and it made me want to play more often again!

I shot a 66. Not sure about OB's though. Only had 3 shots off the short stuff. 2nd shot by basket 5. 2nd shot short left of basket 15. 2nd shot short right of basket 16 in tall grass.
Braden played holes 1-5 and 15-18 and shot 11 over for those holes. His only possible ob was tall grass on 16.
Good playing with you Jeff hope to catch ya at Wortman soon.

Fourth group out after grand opening. shot a 71 w 2 lost disc strokes added, not playing grass ob. I'm about a 945 rated golfer. Carded up w 3 other golfers Id just met, and we all had a blast, despite running out of water, being delerious from the 98 degrees, missing a few discs, and our legs chewed up from the brambles. I just met my friends mom a cpl days later and she was worried I was a self mutilater. "No, don't worry," I said. "We were just playing the newest course in the area and the ruff was ruff." She smiled w nervous relief.
So, after playing a few rounds out there, I noticed I was wanting not to deal w the 2 huge (firs?) in the middle of hole 5 and wanted to take the cheater route over basket#4 as the easiest way to get a 3( and not lose your disc.) This is a hotspot for safety for ppl playing on #4. Do you think there is mando potential there? Are you all taking this route too? Id prolly keep playin it this way, but try to alert upshotters on 4 a headsup, if its cool. Unless its a growing concern. Opinion course guru's?

Once the OB lines between 4 & 5 are set in stone and properly marked, I think a lot fewer people will be trying to take that route. I definitely know what you're talking about though.

I remember a discussion a few years ago; it centered on the two par 4s on a new local course and how tough it is to deal with any holes that were not a 3....so I'm wondering, are all those folks passing on BL or are they enrolled in fundamental math at PCC?

A hardy thank you to Dave, Jeff, Jeff and everyone else for bringing golf back to DG.

Just played the course for the first time over the weekend and I absolutely loved it, can't wait to see this course as it gets played in a bit more. First time through I pegged a 69, felt nice to hit the listed par right on the nose, 4 bogeys, 4 birdies.

What an incredible course!!!!!

First time up yesterday, I (Leland) threw 63 shots. Dustin K. went for a 61.

This course is a must play...and the rough is not THAT bad. The fairways are fair and accessible. Only the negative outcome of risk/reward earns one a search through the rough.

Big thanks to all who have put this course together. :bowing: :bowing: :bowing:

Finally made it out there this weekend. Shot a 69 with 4 birds and 4 bogeys. Loved the course! I also didn't think the rough was that bad and our group of 3 came away with all of our plastic. Can't wait to come back and lower my score. Thank you so much to all the people that put in the hard work to make this happen.

Played it Saturday (9/22) and LOVED it.
I have never played a course set up like this and it was amazing.

A couple holes could have been marked a little better.
Got lost once or twice but easily found our way.:whistler:

I heard a lot of complaints about the rough, it wasn't THAT bad.
We started as a group of 2 and picked up another 2 on hole 4.
None of us lost any discs and while we spotted for each other on a couple of holes, we still spent a anxious few minutes looking for plastic.

Lots of different ways to play every hole; hyzers, anhyzers, rollers, tight gaps, and the ability to really rip it... all over the place.

Overall I ended up shooting a 64 and a 50ft putt on Hole 17 saved the bogey free round!
It was a blast.

I heard a lot of complaints about the rough, it wasn't THAT bad.

This course has already been beaten down very nicely, so you have no idea what it was like when it first opened. The tall grass was a wall and even if you saw where it landed, you could still lose your plastic. It is soooo much better now.

Well, I started this thread but only got out there today for the first time. An unbelievable course (thank you to all who worked on it). For such a long course it actually suits my game really well (I rarely throw further than 350'). Only 1 ob (on hole 18 of all holes). Happy to have parred 17 (again, I think my shorter throws helped on this hole) and finished with a pretty respectable (for me) 68.

Some low scores are definitely to be had. I've yet to hear of a round in the 50's but judging by what some people got on their first rounds there I'm sure that a round in the 50's has already happened. I know I won't be hitting that but I'm confident that I could get my score down to the low 60's on a good day.

79 on the first day, gradually worked my way down to a 71 with a lost disc stroke on 17. Still much room for improvement in my score for sure. The back 9 tears me up, while I almost aways finish under par by 2 or 3 on the front 9.

I've unofficially heard a couple of 62's. Despite being 10,000' ft in length this course is loaded with birdie opportunities / forgiving par 4's.

71 first time without playing OB's, went a few days later with Hagerty and threw 64 with all of the OB's. Haven't come close since... But it's still better than Sam's 66 :}

59 is the best I have heard of so far, David Munk shot that. I've pulled down a 60, I know Brody has as well. Sadly my 60 was with a 7 on the first par 5 in the older long position :(

I just strolled though the thread but the scores seem VERY good for a first round.
I just got my first round in and....

The course is really great! I did not like hole 17 but other than that, it's a great course.
To all of the people who worked so hard and (I talked to Jeff just as I was leaving) are still working on and improving, Thank You. It's great now and I know that you all see something even better in your mind eye. I have too many pokers in the fire to help so I'm hoping others can give a hand.

+22 Old guys don't always rule. Had a good time and again, it's a great course.

Props to all the people and all the hard work.

Just got back from an epic first round at blue lake!
Haggerty met us West Sound guys at the course and was an excellent guide.
What a beautiful course you guys have put together. I am not sure if our first scores are oranges compared to the apples noted earlier in this thread, but if everyone played with the same OB we did and shot way under 70 I am impressed and humbled!!!!!!

Our five some had a 73,75,78,84 and 90.
I won't mentioned who scored what except to say mine was the 73! :trophy:
Interested to see what sort of rated round that turns out to be tomorrow at the tourney...

Somewhere around 1,000. I lost count somewhere in the mid-800s.

It was the first time I played in 2 years and my friends thought it would be a good idea to break me in on a freezing, wet day with 50mph gusts. My friends are jerks.

I shot a 70 first time. 1 over. Not bad for an advanced master turned pro master with a 933 rating. Very tough course.loved it. It is true golf because you need to play the course for what it gives. I imagine after playing it a few times I can shoot low to mid 60s, but not often. This place would be very very tough in a wind. Good work to those involved with getting it done. I would love to see how some of the northwest top pros play it.

Ok i lied. maybe I can shoot mid to high 60s
