How about putting a sticky here with an alphabetical list of the many acronyms used in its many tournaments, organizations, and the sport's jargon itself?

That would help a lot of the "newbies" like myself! I know that TD or td is tournament director. What are some of the others?

Treelove - could you elaborate on ftp (would that be first tee possible?) As for CTP is sometimes known as CTB (closest to the basket) for some of us..
Dont forget DNF (Did not finish).

I don't think there are a lot of disc golf abbreviations, although there's some funky vocabulary. I think other sites have already compiled these lists though...

No, you read it correctly, First TREE Possible - it's not a good thing!

The funny thing about CTP - it seems to be a shout out to ball golf. But ball golfers typically refer to CTP as KP, and nobody really knows why.

OUCH! Does that mean when we "hit" the tree on our first throw? How is that "terrible?" :waaah: (I'm still a "newbie" but how is it related to PDGA rules?) :pullhair:

Read closely... the first TREE. Do you not think it's terrible to hit the first tree in front of the teepad? :)

b) I did not say it was "terrible".
c) Who said we were talking about PDGA rules?

1. The reason I asked if it was a terrible thing because sometimes those first trees "do help out". :-D
2. The reason I asked if it was related to the PDGA rules since sometimes my friends say that it's ob, other times something else, which is why I was asking...
So.. let's stick with the dg stuff!

It's only OB if the tree deflects it out of bounds. Otherwise it's just an embarrasing spot to be "lying 1."

Shanker Sore - that awful gouge in the tree you hit right off the tee. "Gad look at all the shanker sores on that tree!"
PL - Pin Loop. When your roller loops around the pin and comes to rest under the basket. Ok this one I made up...but I use it all the time.

Worm Burner?? Is that like when the disc lands into the dirt at an angle?
No, I think people might call that a lawn dart.
A wormburner is a phrase borrowed from ball golf: a shot that flies much lower than you intended it. It's not necessarily a bad shot... but gravity being what it is, it's usually a bad shot. (Ball golf wormburners will often keep traveling forward, at least somewhat, after they hit the ground; in disc golf, once it hits the ground, it stops -- or scoots sideways.)

Janky: An adjective used to describe how absolutly terrible a shot was.
Example:
You might as well go home Gilmore if you're going to throw janky crap like that all day.

Oh yeah, and since we're not going to get an alphabetical listing of DG and tournament abbreviations and acronyms here, there's one term that originated here at Club Mud:
The verb: to moron.
I moroned my driver on two. Or, I moroned my beer back on the last tee. Or, I moroned my bag some damned place.

Damnit! Jet got mine! I chose to use Rosa Parks-ing it since I didn't figure it was nice to use BOB (back of box) when throwing with OTH Bob, or Ol' Bob as often as I get to.
And when your putts are on, you could be a chain smoker.

Which is why this works so well - I don't figure to many people stuck at the back of the box are wanting to stay there (except for Keys, possibly).

Would a Rosa Parks be having the high score on the preceding hole and leaping to the front and hukking your driver? That would be uppity indeed.

LOL - Last On List - what its called when you register late for the GNO
A/S/L - Anhyzers Surprise Lift - when a breeze catches that s-turn just right and lifts your disc an extra 30ft further
BTW - Big Throw Wasted - when you get impressive distance on your drive only you sail way past the short pin setting
BRB - Bouncing Roller Basketed - when you ace a hole with a roller, happens all the time to me
IMHO - Insane Monster Hyzer Overhand - the kind of throws all the kids are talking about and most of us geezers can't do
ASAP - A Short Ass Putt - when you brain screams "Weeeeak!" just after you release your putt
We were talking about disc golf acronyms?
