Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): Do I have to be a PDGA member?
YES and no. Advanced players are playing in an A-Tier event and the PDGA requires A-Tier/Supertour players to have a current PDGA membership. Intermediate
You do not need to be a member, but non-members pay a $10 fee to the PDGA in order to play in any PDGA sanctioned event.

Is there a cap on number of players?
We are increasing the number of players this year to 144. "Pool A" will consist of MA1 and FA1 and will have a maximum of 72 players. "Pool B" will consist of all other divisions and will have a maximum of 72 players.

Where can I see more information?
Check out Disc Golf Scene (http://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/2012_Next_Adventure_Amateur_Championship) for schedules, media and discussions of the NAAC.

Well besides the obvious of coming out and cheering on their favorite AM...

The Portland Art Museum has a special exhibit entitled 70 Years/70 Photographers

OMSI has a program called Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters

Fiesta Italiana is taking place at Pioneer Courthouse Square - You don't have to be Italian.

There is a Timbers game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (vs Vancouver)

Isn't Portland Great!

How are the skins going to work? I was looking at last year's final 9 and with just the four of us there was a push on all 9 holes. Will all divisions be competing together for skins?

My appologies. I must have 'fat fingered' my entry form. My PDGA # is actually 22453, not 22454. I'm an Oregonian, never even been to NC, lol. And after looking at the reg list I think Mr Florence probably did the same. He's from Gresham, not CA. Once again, sorry bout that.

Open registration is now closed. Please join the waitlist if you want to play in this year's NAAC. There is no cost to be on the waitlist, however, when notification of an opening occurs you will only have a limited time to sign up for the event and you will need to pay at that time.

If you need to make changes, or decide you must drop from the event you will need to contact us via e-mail ONLY. The best e-mail address is tds@fireflydiscgolf.com

THE ONLY WAY to get on the waitlist is using the waitlist form on 4DiscGolf.com. PMs, e-mails, facebook posts, AIM, Live Chat, e-harmony, USPS and UPS requests to get on the waitlist will be ignored. The URL is listed twice previously, but for those that can't find it here it is again. http://www.4discgolf.com/2012NAAC-WL

My guess would be... the exact same way the PDGA does:

From the rulebook:

2.4 Pros Playing Am

A. Pros rated less than 970 may now compete in Amateur divisions offered at PDGA A, B, and C Tier events, for which they qualify based on player rating, age, and sex.

(1) Pro Men and Women
< 970 can play Advanced (MA1)
< 935 can play Intermediate (MA2)
< 900 can play Recreational (MA3)
< 850 can play Novice (MA4)

< 935 can also play Advanced Master (MM1) if they are of Masters age
< 900 can also play Advanced Grandmaster (MG1) if they are of Grandmasters age

(2) Pro Women only
< 850 can play Advanced Women (FW1)
< 800 can play Intermediate Women (FW2)
< 750 can play Recreational Women (FW3)

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this... but Adam Cooney is a registered Amateur. With that said, he could be rated 1050 and still play the NAAC as long as he has never accepted cash (which would automatically flip him to Pro status).

The 970 threshold is only for Pros who step back down to Am for one reason or another.

I failed to think about the Pro vs Amateur Status aspect , I appreciate you pointing that out! I will now go back to practicing putting as that is the only way I can have a chance against 971 rated players, j/k

Don't be scared now. "Fear of any kind is the number one enemy of all golfers, regardless of ball-striking and shot-making capabilities." -Jack Nicklaus. The only difference between your average 900 rated golfer and your 970 rated golfer is the confidence that they will or won't make the shot. but... a little putt practice never hurts.:wink2:

FYI (from their page)-

UPDATE: Registration for this event is closed. There are currently 11 spots that will be filled from the current waitlist. Invitations to sign up from the wait list will be sent in the first week of August. After that we will fill any cancellation spots from the wait list. The wait list is a first come, first served system, however, the tournament directors reserve the right to fill pools and divisions evenly.

I'm #2 and have not heard anything as of yet.

Pier Park will be closed Saturday and Sunday to the general public in order to make way for the Northwest's largest amateur ONLY disc golf tournament. Feel free to come out and watch if you haven't already signed up to play. It should be a blast.

The Player's Packet is almost complete. It includes, one Innova, one Discraft, and one Latitude disc. A commorative glass, a pair of NAAC socks, a Sport-TekŪ - Tricolor Shoulder Micropique Sport-WickŪ Polo shirt, and a mini disc bottle opener.

This year, in addition to the real life tournament, we're also running a fantasy NAAC tournament. We've partnered with PlayFantasyDiscGolf.com to run a separate fantasy sports based event. Participation is free and prizes will be awarded during the award ceremony at the NAAC. To register for your free account and join the tournament, go to www.playfantasydiscgolf.com. Register your account and then click "Leagues" and "Find a League". Then enter the invitation code, "BA3C69OC". First place will get an Innova Traveler basket so make sure you join the fun!

You don't have to be a player in the event but you do have to be present at the awards ceremony to win!

Disc Golf's 2012 Next Adventure Amateur Championship in Portland this Weekend

http://sportszonemedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/mthood.jpg (http://sportszonemedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/mthood.jpg)The 2012 Next Adventure Amateur Championship (http://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/2012_Next_Adventure_Amateur_Championship) will take place this weekend, over August 25-26, in Portland at the Pier Park Disc Golf Course. Firefly Disc Golf is helping to not only provide a valuable service to the disc golf community, but to promote the great sport of disc golf in a number of different ways including putting on some of the best tournaments in the region.
This event was added to the PDGA (http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/77861) Supertour schedule, making the NAAC one of four events in the Pacific Northwest at that level. This PDGA sanctioned A-tier event has been one of the most talked about disc golf tournaments in the area, and this year’s will include 144 players, selling out nearly two months in advance.
For those who weren’t able to register in time, or who just have an interest in disc golf, this will be an excellent event just to come find out what the sport is all about, and possibly pick up some tips by watching some of the more experienced disc golfers out on the course.
According to the DGR (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=55) site, Pier Park offers a beautiful course in the city park with “200 foot Douglas Firs that come into play on almost every hole.” This is a well-maintained, challenging course with a wide variety of holes to keep players entertained.
The park (http://www.portlandonline.com/parks/finder/index.cfm?PropertyID=513&action=ViewPark) itself is located in the St. Johns neighborhood of Portland and includes a playground, water fountain and splash area, tennis courts, pool and even a skate park.
The tournament will kick off with Pool B players teeing off at 8 a.m. for round one, with Pool A players teeing off at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Sunday’s Final Round for Pool A will begin at 9 a.m., with the Final Round for Pool B at noon. The Final 9 will take place at 3:30 p.m. with the top four Advanced players followed by dinner and a concert at 5 p.m., and finally an Awards ceremony at 6 p.m. followed by a Raffle at 6:30 p.m.
Come out and join the fun this weekend at Pier Park!

I live out highway 30 in Columbia City and it barely affected my commute last year. There isn't much traffic that early in the morning on a weekday. I just get in the far lane to give them space and traffic runs pretty smoothly. It was smooth even this morning when I was coming to work.

A-tier, huge field, huge payout, huge Ace-pot at this event but no chatter two days later?

Other than the results confirming my suspicion that we have reached a state of permanent sandbagging and adamant refusal to ever move up in Oregon, I have no idea how the weekend went.

Anybody?

It was a great tournament, I didn't notice any significant backups. Awesome player's pack, phenomenal technology presence. I was impressed by not only the effort put into the tournament, but the intelligent planning and preparation done beforehand to set it up for success.

The top 4 of the MA2 field not being rated or PDGA current was awkward but I doubt the PDGA is going to sack up and force a membership to be purchased whenever you cash over the membership cost, and reduce your prize by that amount.
