We had 23 pre-registrations at the Rosebud fundraiser. We will update the list to pdga soon, before Friday for sure.

I thought there was pre-registration at the fundraiser over this last weekend.

Check it. (http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/82452%2526348069100)

We are capping two divisions in the interest of balanced flights. MA1 will be capped at 48 (12 spots are already taken due to early registration at the Rose Bud) and MM1 will be capped at 24 (3 spots are already taken due to early registration at the Rose Bud.)

If the pro flight does not look like it will round itself out, we will then pull from the waitlist to fill the amateur divisions to levels similar to last year. As we get closer to tee time, an official schedule with flight assignments will be posted and emailed to registered players who we have addresses for.

Just a reminder that online registration is now open at:

http://www.4DiscGolf.com/12RCO

In fact 14 people registered in the first 10 minutes.

Additional information, including waitlist signup should any division fill, is available at www.rosecityopen.com. We will post the schedule and final pool assignments in the coming weeks on that site as well.

The number of remaining spots is misleading though. It only represents one pool...20 online registrations + 23 pre-registrations = 46/144

Well the 2012 RCO is just over half full. There are 11 spots remaining in each of the MA1 and MM1 divisions according to our tentative division caps of 48 and 24, respectively.

We will give all pro and the FA1 divisions a couple weeks or so to build and at that point we might be able to let in more MA1 and MM1 but please don't leave that to chance!

Current registration has been uploaded to the pdga page (http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/82452%2526832472515).

Picked up a new sponsor the other day! GT, the owner of the Goodfoot, added some cash for the RCO. The Goodfoot (http://thegoodfoot.com/) is a pretty sweet spot to catch music, play pool, view some art, and grab a drink. Mr. Moro knows what I'm talking about!

Be sure to visit them, they are looking to get more involved with the disc golf scene.

The pro side of the event has until May 4th to fill itself up, after that we will pull players from the wait list to fill the tournament. At that time we will post an official schedule of the weekend's happenings.

If anybody needs an incentive, we have $1,000 of added cash going into the pro payouts.

I would like to see Andrew Rich at this event, his game is a good fit for this course. I also thought Dave Feldberg was traveling with a couple of really good players, maybe he forgot to tell them about this one.

Where are:
Tim Skellenger
Tyler Christensen
Nate Sexton ( I think Nate hates Pier)
Colin Sexton
Cory Coates ( I know he had a wonderful new child but come on Portland Disc Golf needs this guy)
Leland O'Driscoll

These guys are all kick ass golfers who should be at this event tearing it up.

Just signed up. I was waiting until I scheduled my dissertation defense (May 22). It has been a dry stretch of tournament play since last fall for me. Looking forward to some competition again.

I just played Pier a few weeks ago, liked the "winter layout." Will it be back into traditional placements soon?

The summer layout (mostly to all short positions) will be back ~first weekend of May. The RCO layout (mostly longs) will be in place shortly before the tournament.

Good luck with the defense! I would think the RCO would be a great little vacation/reward a few days later.

Todd-
The waitlist has not been rearranged at all. Your waitlist submission on 4/17/2012 at 7:22 does put you at 17th.

Note that if we do not get more than 11 additional pro registrations by May 4th we will likely increasing the MA1 field by 12-16.

Just a reminder that Pros have until the end of the day this Friday, May 4th to register for the RCO. There are ~ 9 spots remaining until then and we know of at least 3 other people who plan to register which would leave ~ 6 slots.

If those spots are not claimed by pros we will increase the MM1 field by 4 (to 28) which will essentially fill that Pool (MPO,FPO,MPM, MM1)

Also on Friday we will increase the MA1 field, depending on FA1 registrations between now and then. It is looking like the MA1 field will be 60 at least.

All of these spots will be filled in order from the waitlist, and we will email those people who have been waiting patiently with registration instructions.

I just sent emails or PMs to #1-12 on the MA1 waitlist (http://www.rosecityopen.com/node/16) and #1-3 on the MM1 waitlist (http://www.rosecityopen.com/node/16) with an invitation and link to register. If you are one of the people on those lists check your inbox.

Please register or let Justin or I know your intention as soon as possible so that we can proceed down the waitlist as need be.

This is your last call to sign up for the RCO. At present there are 7 ladies signed up, or 2 cards. 2 more would make three cards of 3!

I sent you an email earlier today, actually. You and everyone can see the waitlist at rosecityopen.com (http://www.rosecityopen.com/node/16). Originally you were #21 on the waitlist. Yes, as of right now you are #9.

I was actually given that link by DGShawn, on another thread, because this issue came up about the 2 tourneys there as well!

You're very welcome on the dyed discs, I had a BLAST at ASC (it was our first but not last visit) You guys seem to really enjoy me dyeing discs on the spot, and I had fun doing it!! I'm going to see if I can "keep myself busy" dyeing discs at The Showdown II (in Shelton Springs) and the White River Open (in Auburn) too. :seeya:

Yep there are currently 69 MA1 registered. One more has indicated he will register. That means there are actually 2 spots left if there are any takers.

Not sure if this has been answered. I am heading out to Pier tomorrow but curious if the course will be played in the winter setup of the summer setup? If the summer setup is being played, any idea when it will be in the tournament layout?

The course should return to the summer layout on Monday. When that happens the baskets will be in the Rose City Open Saturday layout. We are planning to move some baskets (~ half of them) before Sunday's rounds.

We will post the RCO layout details here when we have that sorted out, hopefully tomorrow.

Thanks to Dave Blado for all work to return the course to the summer layout and also for agreeing to move baskets on Saturday evening. Also Dave and PPR continue to do great things out there to improve the conditions on the course. Gravel paths continue to go in and are being lined with native plantings, and there are now 2 drains in the vicinity of teepad 12. Awesome stuff.

Seriously, you just can't say enough good things about Dave Blado and all the hard work that goes into improving this park. Initially I was worried that losing hole 18 from the summer layout would be a crushing blow to the course, but after playing the winter layout and my new favorite hole (#6!!!)I will be sad to see it revert back to the original layout.

And then it struck me; my favorite course can now be played on two different layouts and that is nothing but a good thing.:yay::bowing::yay:

So on most non-event Sundays at 9am you can find me putting my money into the donation bucket before heading out for my weekly devotion to this crazy thing we call disc golf.

Don't forget to consult the schedule page at rosecityopen.com (http://www.rosecityopen.com/node/19) for your Pool assignment and all of the corresponding scheduling details for the weekend.

Note that on Friday there will be a random draw doubles ($5 buy-in, check in 4:30 - 5:15, tee off 5:30). Thanks, Jordan Lewis for running this again!!!!

We will also have early check-in for the RCO at Pier on Friday for a couple hours, beginning at 4:30.

So come on down to get first pick of your player's pack disc and hat (amateurs), practice on the RCO layout, and play some doubles.

Great choices, Lund! I especially agree with 18. Greater score seperation for 18 in the "short" placement. That makes the hole count more coming down to the wire.

Well I am only half of the team but thanks for the kind words. That is what Justin and I were hoping with regards to 18 and some of the other holes. We could have some good data after a couple years worth of rounds to assess score variation on different holes and placements.

I think we said something about entering hole by hole scores into a spreadsheet last year too. It didn't happen but we have the scorecards in a box somewhere.

just wanted to say that i will truly miss experiencing this event this weekend with all of you... i sure do love me some pier park and i know that lundy and hiatt do a fantastic job of running a smooth show! however... there are rufflebutts to be worn and nonsanctioned events to be occupied in my world so while you are putting your putts dead center chains i will be thinking fondly of you as i take dead aim at some 3/4 inch copper pins and get back to my roots...

have the most awesome of times everyone!

Eric and Justin, will each pool play the same number of rounds on each layout?

It seems like the baskets would have to move after the first round on sunday so that each pool had two rounds on the first set of placements and then each pool would have one round on the last set of placements. If you mix it up people who are trying to qualify for the ORDGC would be restricted to their pools for qualification and it will make the TD Report a little more involved.

Now THAT is some TD'ing right there! Mid tournament results!

Living a mile from the course helps!

Day 1 is in the books and the results are here (http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/82452%2526353979645). Tbe MA1 ratings changed (went up) just a bit as now all of the day's rounds are factored in together. Keep in mind that right now all rounds from today are rated together. We will be interested to see if and how they change when we submit the TD report and the different flights get sorted out.....

Mike Medlock sure got started with a bang! As in an ace on his first throw of the tournament! Anyone ever heard of that before? He got it on hole 5.

And holy hannah the rain started coming down hard (as we were all tallied up, packed up, and driving away from the course). It's supposed to be pretty decent tomorrow. We'll do our best to get any wet teepads cleaned up in the morning after all this rain.

Thanks everyone for the timely check-ins, smooth rounds, and the clean, error free scorecards thus far. We'll see you tomorrow.

p.s. Eric and Justin wish Benotsch was here.

Eric and Justin ran an awesome tourney!

I got some quality video despite bizarre battery problems. I'd put a charged battery in and it would say it was empty. I'd pull it out put another charged battery in and it would also say empty. After constant switching of batteries, finally one would pop up charged.

I missed some shots but got some great footage of MPO lead card and 2nd card.

As far as I know, I was told that Chris Becker took 1st, Sean Phillips 2nd, Scott Withers 3rd, and James Moore 4th. Doug Salty won Pro Masters!

I'm going to try and grind this video up on YouTube. As far as I know I got the first birdie (on video) on hole 15 long by James Moore. James parked it for a 3' reach in putt and the gallery went BANANAS! Also notable, Sean Phillips birdied hole 1 long, 3rd round and I think this is also the first birdie on video of this hole. If not I think it is at least the 1st birdie (on video) in a PDGA sanctioned event.

Sean played spectacularly. On hole 11, he pierced the gap and no one could find his disc. There were 20 people from the gallery looking for his drive and it just disappeared. Nikko Locastro climbed up on someone's shoulders and climbed over the rooftop of the decaying hobbit hut thing near the basket of hole 11 and looked inside but it wasn't there either. Time ran out and Sean had to re-tee for 3 and parked it 20' past the basket and canned the 4 putt.

Yes the video is up!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31ttBxu44Is

I added a new piece of hardware into the production chain and the commentary audio track ended up being a little hot and the export pushed the levels up even further.

Without going too deep into video production lingo, the HD resolution and the length of this video makes it a 10 hour export and a 20 hour upload to YouTube's servers. I could upload a new version but then the commentary could be too low in the mix.

The best and easiest solution is to turn the volume on your computer down below half way and you should be good to go. I will correct this in future videos.

Probably the next one to go up will be 2012 BSF.

If you like it please leave comments, subscribe and visit and click LIKE on my new BullseyeDiscGolf Facebook page!

This is a lot of fun to be able to post this footage so the TD's, volunteers, and the players that are playing while this round is going on, can see the footage that they could not have seen while it happened live.

My approach to filming Disc Golf is to always if possible, show the feet and the tee pad in the shot. Footwork is the "foundation" of a successful swing and it's nice to be able to see what it's supposed to look like with the better players. I honestly don't know if anyone else pays attention to this but there are a lot of crummy videos on YouTube.
