In case it's been hard to find ;)

Not sure why a division would not be selectable. It cold be because it's full (I've not got the latest on the reg list, but I'll look later today), or it could be a bug... maybe refresh and try again?

Call them like you see them. Its hard to ignore the past even when people have paid for their mistakes. I think the experience in most people will always make them more cautious when dealing with that individual again. We have had pencil whippers is the community at large before and its never ended well after the incidents for anyone involved. I say just keep score on your own and then check them at the end.

Can any locals comment of the condition of the course.

1. Poison Oak fair or bad right now.
2. How wet/muddy is the area around 18, 1, 2 tee?
3. how is the fairway on 3?

I'm not a local, but I did play WB last Friday and Saturday.
It was also ~80 degrees on Sunday, so I imagine it dried out even more?
The course looks great. The grass is a bit long in spots.

PO - my assessment would be fair, not bad.
hole 18 - a bit wet/soggy on the middle/left side of the fairway, not bad on the right side near the rock path.
hole 1 - soggy in the middle/right of the fairway, foot path to the green is nice.
hole 2 - no issues unless you are WAY right.
hole 3 - fairway is a bit slippery going down the hill and a bit wet at the bottom, not bad.

There was a shorter placement on 13 (up the hill to the left) that I hadn't seen before. 8 long is playing tough.

Seriously, though, if you can't get into the loud group camp side, you can likely get into the less loud individual camp side, even if you have to share a space, which I would highly recommend!

On the far side of the park there are individual campsites with fire rings and tables and plenty of room for tents/popups. These spots can fill up on Friday/Saturday since this is a popular park so plan to arrive early as possible if you want to stay there.

Lots of room, too, at the group camping area. Probably not as loud as it was in years past.

Don't go to a field. Climb a nearby hill and practice throwing hard and straight and down (maybe 15 degrees below the horizon). There's a monster top o' the world shot you'll be facing.

There's another downhill throw with the basket a few feet from a bluff edge that leads down to the Umpqua. Don't throw too hard or high on that one.

Other than that solid approaches from 150-200' will save you strokes on some of the longer holes.

matty,

i was just talking about the wind factor with my dad the other night... and altho it really seems like this could be a very windy course being right on the river and all, i don't recall that it was terribly windy the two times i have been down there. certainly nothing like what we had at the Disc Go Ball, anyway.

my advice to you for Whistler's: enjoy the beauty and magic of the locale and always remember: safety first. this is not always a course where going for it is the smartest play... well, i would say that about any course... but that's just my game. anyway, i'm stoked for you to be coming down.

Thanks Emma, i've gone to 2 tournaments in the past month without my box of extra discs and regretted it instantly when I got to the course. I didn't have any discs stable enough to full handle the head winds and nothing was understable enough to work in the tail. I will be prepared this time. See ya Saturday Emma!

Anyone want to pass on some results, stories, etc?

I'll add that Melody King won Women's Open Pro. Watched her practice from the top of the world on Friday evening and I'll say she throws far.
Ward Stroud beat DR and I for first in Adv.Grandmasters. Jesse Grasseth from Eugene won Adv. Masters. I don't remember the other winners in Adv. Men or Women, or Int. Though, I know Tobiah Moshier from Eugene took second in Int. Men. Good throwing guys.

Weather was perfect, sunny after some morning clouds. Little wind to worry about off the top of the world. The course was beautiful as it always is, some grass was on the tall side but not loose your disc tall. There was a little muck on holes 18 and 1, but not enough to really bother you. The river was high so there were a few lost disc's on holes 7 and 9. Luckily my disc's stayed dry.

I only heard of one disgruntled golfer that was having a bad couple of rounds, and left early in a huff blaming everything and everyone he could for his play and unhappiness. Not the first time for him to do that, so no worries.

As far as I could tell everyone else had a good time and enjoyed the tournament. I sure did. Our old crusty division was small so we were grouped with a two different guy's from other divisions. One was an intermediate player and the other a pro and both playing in their first PDGA event. If Nathan or Trevor are reading this I'll let you guys know we Crusties had a good time playing with the both of you. Glad to be able to pass on some tournament play advice to you guys. Wish we could of offered some actual throwing advice, but both of you can throw well already. I'm sure we'll be seeing you move up the ranks.

Thanks Tom and Teresa and all the others that helped out at tournament central. Your hard work is appreciated by me and many others that played.

Sure. 1 stroke lead. 1 hole to play. It's the Top of the World. Jessie Grasseth throws first and it is horrible - doesn't make it past the road (but turned out to get a favorable roll). I throw next with a very trusty, overstable disc. It goes straight. Then it goes straight some more. Then it hits an air bounce and picks up speed and continues going straight. Then another. Finally hits the earth about 10 feet shy of the road beyond the basket and... wouldn't you know it... it slithers those feet and three more to come to rest OB in the road. Jessie throw his upshot and it is parked. I throw my upshot and am about 20-25 feet down the hill. I step up and hit a lot of chains but they were all on the weak side. I pick up my 5p. Jessie drops his par in for the win.

I had a great time and am glad I went. Got to see many friends old and make some new ones. Thank you to all involved who made this event happen and keep it happening year after year.

Anyone want to pass on some results, stories, etc?

Matt:

For the MPMs: Jeff H. did run away with, although his last round was a little flat (was it a victory lap?).

Jeff Cox played over par his first round (just before teeing off he noticed his expensive phone was missing, so he started a bit off kilter). But then in rounds two and three (having found his phone), Jeff channeled his inner Jeff and started carding a lot of twos and took second.

Buck and Mike W. tied for third/fourth at seven under for the tourney. Rick Reichard and I tied for fifth/sixth at two under for the weekend.

Doug Saulter shot three under on day one but then he was sidelined with a bad back and had to withdraw. Kind of sad (send him good wishes). He hung out but you could see the pain on his face.

Killer trophies. Beautiful photos with a delicious color GNO logo. That Teresa is turning out some nice stuff.

How were the payouts?

Deep and generous for our division.

I'd guess that this tourney returned at least $5 in value for every $4 in entry fees (probably a lot more).

Consider who ran it: Tom, Teresa, and Flash with lots of help from Jordan and Don Richter and others I can't recall. It's a polished act. These guys are pros.

Well organized, well equipped, deeply experienced. Case closed.

This event went off very smoothly including the final score calculations and awards. I think as a team we cut out maybe 1 hour after round 3 to get the awards done and people on the road.

The reason it went so smooth was the willingness of players and staff to help out when asked or volunteer without being asked. Whether it was sitting in TC while someone was putting water on the course or starting the two minute warning up by hole 15, to helping write scores on the leader board and sorting cards. We have some awesome disc golfers in this community and they do it for the love of the game. Thank you all for your help.

He thinks he dropped them going up the hill on hole #13 or going down the hill on hole #14.
Did anyone happen to find them?

Somebody picked up some sun glasses (darker colored) Saturday when we were going up the hill for hole 13... I will think on it and try and remember who it was... It was an MA1 group and we

At Whistler's over the weekend I lost my shame laying up from 15 ft on hole 17, lost my common sense on my upshot on hole 18, and finally lost my patience driving from the top of the world. I kind of need them back. So if any one found them please return them. My name and phone number are written on the backs of each in invisible ink.

The deadline for the TD reports is today if the GNO is to make the May 15th ratings update. Puh-lease if at all possible turn that baby in tonight.
Thanks for all the work.

Yeah, that would be awesome. Of course, we STILL don't know what our ratings even were.

Ugh.

Looks like Tom is working through some issues with the report and the PDGA. He will post the scores and submit the TD report when all is cleared up.

sorry that took longer than I wanted, but we had some PDGA issues we needed to sort out.

I'm so glad the weather cooperated and it looks like everyone had a great time.

It was great seeing the Gausnells and the other locals this weekend. You all live in a beautiful place. We know it's amazing, but we are always struck by how beautiful it is when we come down.

After all the efforts Tom and I have put into disc golf in this region, this remains our favorite event to run and play... all about the great course, great times and great people in the Great Northwest! I'm sure glad the Eugene club found this park in '95 and ran very first Great Northwest Open there... what a fabulous tradition!

Congrats to Nate, his first and 50th Pro PDGA wins at Whistler's! Congrats to all our winners!

Thanks to everyone that turned out to play and enjoy the weekend! Thanks to Douglas County Parks and their great work taking care of us, as they do every year.

Thanks for the scores! I noticed Spencer Gausnell is missing from the final results though, I think there may have been 33 open pros but only 30 are listed online.

Teresa,

Thanks for getting those up! You might want to take a look at how the pools are set up, because it looks like they may not be set up correctly. Advanced played at a different time than pros but the ratings don't reflect any difference at all.

Thanks again!

Jeff

Some of us from Eugene may have fished or camped there as kids, but we didn't find Whistler's. Yose is the true creator of Whistler's. The EDGC had been bringing baskets down for tournaments he ran for a while before Sasquatch wanted to start the GNO. Just wanted to clear that up so people don't get any hurt feelings. I know that wasn't your intention Sassalicious. Posts get so misinterpreted online I thought I'd issue a correction.

Thanks Roller!
FWIW, I had no hurt feelings.
I actually thought it was funny in a funny sort of way. :biggrin2:
BUT, to clear it up even more, the EDGC AND the UDA ran the very first GNO.

Well we pay hard earned money to be a PDGA members and play in tournaments I like to see ALL of the stats. It is not that hard to enter it into the spreadsheet...infact it's easy!
