The Disc Go Ball is back with a new layout! :yay:
Bend Metro Park & Recreation District (BMPRD) has approved and will be funding the materials for a new 9-hole layout in the Pine Nursery over the next few months; Mach 5 baskets with multiple placements, two cement tees per hole, custom tee signs and other amenities are in the dream plan and soon to be reality. Many of these improvements will be completed prior to the event.
We will be adding 9 temp holes to the updated layout and competing in 3 rounds of 18 holes over the weekend. This combination Disc Golf/ Ultimate Frisbee event also features an array of Frisbee side games, on field snacks, entertainment, demonstrations, and a Saturday night player's party. This year's theme is "The Apocalypse". We're doomed. Limit 80 players, get on board. :pirate:

Thinking of making the trek over for this! I'd be interested in carpooling and/or splitting hotel costs with any non-creepy non-snoring folks! or if people are camping I'd be happy to split costs of a camp site and I'll bring my tent!

Good guess, but lunch is not in the player's pack.. :)
The player's pack is still gaining items, but will include at least one tournament logo disc: Glow Big Bead Aviar, Glow KC Pro Roc, Champion Vulcan, Champion Metal Flake Destroyer.
There will be a cornucopia at tourney central with a smorgasbord of complimentary breakfast offerings; bagels, fruit, hot coffee, etc. available both days.
And, we will have some local food carts out at the course so you can purchase lunch or bring your own.
Rockin' Dave's (http://www.rockindaves.com/) will be providing the player's party dinner on Saturday night.

We had another successful work session today and completed most of the rest of the preliminary course clearing. There is plenty of work left, next week we'll be digging the holes for the first nine basket collars and framing in a few pads to prepare for a concrete pour on 4/04. Super thanks to everybody who has helped with the remodel and course improvements over the past few weeks. :kissflowers:
Give these folks at least a pat on the back: Ryan Lane, Matt Murphy, Mike Finney, Dustin Detweiler, Jeff Wilson, Rachel Benton, Chris Sams, Caleb Henson, Mike Ward, Steve Corfield, Pete Belizi, Andy Clark, Adam Cooney, Ryan Holmes, Marcus Crespi, Jerimiah Johnson, & Bart Masters.

Yep. A lil bit for sure. You'll be throwing discs about 1-1.5 steps flippier than normal.
These results are not scientific: Your results may vary.

as someone who recently moved from Colorado and her home course being at 7,000+ feet (and my favorite tourny being at 10,000ft!) and moving to sea level, I will personally attest to elevation making a difference. It's taken me quite a bit of time to relearn my bag. But granted that was also a large change so it was definitely noticable but yes, there is a difference. I've learned to "club up" now that I'm throwing at sea level. My beat up sidewinder that was my go-to fairway driver at elevation is now too understable for most situations for me here at sea level or close to.
With Bend being at about 3,600 ft it won't be a night and day difference but you may still notice it for sure.

My favorite tourney moment? Watching the entire field gunning for a new basket by firing disc after disc after disc at a basket in the field. After a few rounds a finally a disc slams the chains and drops in the basket... and here comes Sally West running up to grab her new basket.

... that was an exceptionally rad weekend (despite not winning... yes, i really do love winning that much :p especially when you get a beautiful handmade ceramic bowl as a trophy. zoe, can i have your bowl?)...
i will say this, too... bend straight up kicked my ass... i'm tired, everything hurts, i'm sunburnt (note to self: when traveling to bend in the springtime, bring the spf 100 for heaven's sake) and have pretty much no voice left (yeah, dance party... in case none of you knew, joey moro and sally west are exceptional company on the dance floor... those crazy ultimate kids... they thought they could dance)
gretchen & ryan, you guys put on a classy show... the trophies and extras and just really knowing your job and how to get things done. and i know there is a ton of people who put in a ton of work that i don't know, but i really do appreciate all of it.
and of course, rach... thanks for the house, the bed, the covers and the bacon. you are amazing...
... and i gotta mention this... sally and zoe blew my freaking mind... well played girls... that round on sunday with you two and cindy mcmayhem was quite possibly the best tourney round i've ever played... not rating's wise, but awesomeness wise... thanks, girls.

Unfortunately, I was not present to personally experience the well-oiled Ball.
However, from a distance, I was very impressed by the lighting fast results being published (sat and sun).
You're doing it right! Thank you!

Ryan, thanks for running a great event!:yay:
no kidding! that was so much fun! you guys don't waist any time and constantly have something going on. That is something that I really admire about certain TD's, they constantly have the crowd involved in something, no down-time. The ace runs, the ring of fire, the long distance, the MTA! everything was great fun. well worth the trip up from Portland, and you can guarantee i'll be back next year! Thanks Ryan!:yay:
