Definitely a must play. After last year, it will be hard to beat the experience, however, we have the right people in charge to put it over the top.. I will be counting down the days.. To quote last year, "It only keeps getting better!"

Emma, the following weekend is the Aquafest Open in Lake Stevens. It's non sanctioned, but I think Cajun will give you an appearance fee of at least 2 bottles of fine Walla Walla red wine. :chug:
p.s. Shelton Springs and Mason County Disc Golf rocks! I am IN!

The right decision? A B-Tier at a great course in Washington... or a combined Pro/Am PDGA World Championships with over 800 players. Hmmm... Well, hopefully you guys run another event there this year, because this schedule conflict is a damned shame.

seriously, tho, given the opportunity to make it to another worlds i am sure you can understand my decision to make that happen. shelton is a very special place for me and was before y'all built a stellar disc golf course up there... some day the stars will align and i'll make it to an event...
p.s. cajun, lakestevens... thanks for the invites and enticing bribes... i am running low on argyles...

If you liked the camping for the Showdown last year, your going to LOVE it this year!
We have reserved the group camp at Simpson Employee Rec Area on Mason Lake! Picture a private campground on Mason Lake with all of the amenities you can imagine! Hot showers, clean bathrooms, a huge covered shelter with power, water, charcoal grill, a huge fire pit, private boat launch, and all sites have electrical and water hook ups! All this and its only 10 mins from the course!
Camping will be available from Thursday the 19th of July, to Monday the 23rd.
Special thanks to Rex, for setting this up!

I also noticed there is another tourny June 2nd for the WSS, will ours be sanctioned? I know riversides isn't...will that also be day-of sign up? I have heard no mention of it so I thought I'd ask on a thread that I know MCDGers should look at.

... daaaannnnggg... word travels quick 'round the disc golf community!
... gotta be honest, tho, that the choice was made for me due to work related responsibilities and a stupid court case (that since has settled! i'm no longer being sued for $128,000! i don't have to go to court for three days!)... but, that being said, knowing that i was going to be able to go to shelton for the Showdown definitely helped lessen the sting of not being able to make it to Worlds... i mean, who wants to go to North Carolina in the middle of july anyway, right?
pretty stoked to get up there and meet the whole MCDGC crew and, in person, lavish my praise and appreciation and awe of your beautiful course on y'all and get to experience what i know will be an absolutely top notch, first class event...

morgan, you need something that will accentuate your growls and shouts of fury that you like to release while playing. :whistler: a piece that helps you release the beast within. :biggrin2:
i know you hate emoticons sorry. i just needed something that says "im poking fun at you in a good natured way"

Where is all the open players?
Is there going to be a cap on the amatuer side? IMHO, there shouldn't be.
Once 72 players are registrared, then the event is full. If that means only 10 open players get in, then so sad for the late attempt to get in.
Of course, that is a decision for the TDs to make to fit their target market.

There is no WAY you could possibly qualify for Advanced Grandmasters - CHECK HER ID! :nono: :cop: :nahnah: ;)
Just kiddin' ya. As an option, perhaps, if it was OK with the TD, you could enlist in an allowed division of your choice, even if unopposed, but then be grouped with a suitable card (hopefully mine! ) from another division. I have seen it done at PDGA events in the past, most often by women.

Hopefully this is an isolated glitch; I can't figure out a reason for that happening.
Has anyone else had any trouble with the online registration?
Had some issues last night with camping.. I was hoping to pay day of or prior to the tourney.. I signed up without camping just to ensure I got my spot.. No worries, but I would be bummed not to camp with the rest of the players.. Let me know if there is something I can do, or someone to talk with to help resolve this..If not, well Chris, then it's me and BA in the kitchen. I cook, he cleans:yay: I'll bring you a bottle of fine whiskey to boot:chug:
Also, regarding the skins... At the Aloha there was bit of issue. So, hypothetically, If my status is an AM player (No cash accepted/ Open events played before) and I am paying open for this tourney, and I DO NOT make the 4 spots. Will I still be eligible to enter the raffle?
Thank you Chris Gilberts and MCDGC. Always a pleasure and honor to play your events.

Yes Rolly, You can pay for camping the day of. I do have some cute little maid costumes for you an BA, so maybe be thinking about that diet....
The skins will not affect an Am's status in any way. The tourney is over before the skins starts, the skins is just a side game.

Yes, and no..
I suppose a better way to ask this question would be this. Are Open players (Those that didn't qualify top 4) allowed to buy raffle tickets? And if not, what can be done about making sure none do.
My question relates to an issue that happened at Aloha this year.
It was billed and advertised as top 4 open players and 4 AM players (chosen by raffle) 9 hole skins.
The first place winner in Open picked a raffle winner than was actually a Open Grandmasters player and winner in his respected division. They cleaned up winning 8 of 9 skins. $130x8= $1010/2= $505 each player.
Correct me if I'm wrong with that info..
I like the format, I think Shelton is a great place to showcase these talents too. Just don't want to see that happen again.

Oh baby, it was spectacular last year.. We as players got it so good at the Showdown. I think last year it was something like: maple syrup, dijon mustard and dill marinate. So good I keep trying to create it at home without much success.THANK YOU TO ALL VERY MUCH FOR THE HARD WORK AND EFFORT.

Thanks to Kevin David and Package Express with helping us acquire the highly sought after Bentley! Thanks to the West Sound Disc Golf Association for supplying us with one of the Discatcher Sport baskets!

Last year most people ended up parking on the street near tourney central,

Can we get some sort of official word on where we are allowed to park?(so we can blame you if it turns out badly:bricks:)

thank you for asking... i thought about last time i was up there with my dad... there's no way we can fit everyone into that tiny parking lot and there are CLEARLY no parking signs on the sides of the road (which it appears no one really pays any attention to, but i personally wouldn't be comfortable tempting fate and the local law like that).

Question about the camping spot.
Google maps points to some trees just off the side of the road. I see what looks to be a shelter, dock and open area just south of what google points too. I'm guessing that is the spot, but want to be sure because we are headed down thursday and want to set up in an appropiate place.
Thanks

The area we will be using is Group Camp #2. There are signs to get you to the group camp once you're in the park. The gate will be locked, and the key code is #1212.
There will be signs along the way from the course to camping and vice versa.
The city has allowed us to use the field West of the course (look for signs) to park in. Please be respectful of the area.

I'll be on-sight dying discs... if you would like a design other then the ones I have at www.DiscAddiction.com please feel free to IM me and I'll see what I can do about getting your design ready before we head to Shelton tomorrow!
If you want to be sure to get your disc dyed we WILL be camping, so look for Tim and I friday night.
I'll be able to do a limited number of discs on sight over the weekend, BUT if you can "part" with your disc for the week between I'll be at Aquafest and you can pick up any unfinished (or colored ) disc there.
Remember I can ONLY do black disc on-sight, but I can do a variety of colors if you let me take the disc(s) home.
We're looking forward to seeing everyone at Shelton again this year!!

So just in case you are thinking about pulling out of the tournament at the last minute I thought you might like to know that:
The combined open payout is $3,700 (This total does not include skins round)
1st MPO - $700 (field of 16)
1st MPM - $500 (field of 8)
1st FPO - $300 (field of 4)
And of course the top 4 scores from Open players for the weekend will receive a random partner via a raffle for 9 hole Double Drive Alt Shot Skin worth $100 a hole. (after the 60/40 Pro/Am split a sweep in skins could potentially net the MPO winner a grand total of $1,300.)
FYI We are taking care of our Ams as well so no pulling out of that side of the tournament either.
Courses looks amazing, Trophies look heavy, Payouts look fat, Kegs look full and cold. Salmon looks red. Weather looks, well, cooperative (hey, it's Washington that's as good as it gets.)
I am excited for "Mason County" to host the 2012 Showdown not just the club but really this local community is giving us so much support it feels more like a county wide effort than just our small band of hard working hillbillies.
Now where did I leave my bugle......

To add to the offerings this weekend..
If you're having a disc dyed by Danni this weekend, or maybe if thats not you're thing - then maybe you'd also like to pick up some collector disc golf posters. If all goes well, and we're not in a thunderstorm thunderdome event - Hopefully I'll be at a West Sound Disc Golf Association tent during the lunch break with a portfolio of 12x18 high quality art poster prints I'll be offering personally. Some inventory with all the events so far in the West Sound Challenge series, including...

Of course a huge pat on the back goes to Chris Gilbert for all he (and his wife do) and I'm still awe struck at the job Morgan does with his LIGHTSPEED scoring!!
The course was stunning
The payouts were amazing!
The camping was 4 stars
and the sponsors were generous!!
On a personal note I want to thank all of those that came over to me with interest in my disc dyeing... it's always a fun event for me because of the PLAYERS!
Finally a HUGE thanks to Kyle Crabtree for winning $600 worth of skins with my husband, Tim Baugher *Yammits*, so we actually came out ahead on a disc golf weekend that takes 5 hours to drive to and 1.5 tanks of gas to attend :yay:
Until next year Shelton...

I said it at the players party last night but I think its worth repeating. The combination of the killer courses themselves and their condition, the best food I have ever seen served at a tournament (by a long shot), the flawless organization and the flow, the scoring updates as the cards came in, the huge payout and added cash, the campground with more food, the parties....
The Mason County crew and the Shelton Showdown have absolutely raised the bar for what I would consider a top-notch event and weekend. I had a blast.
If I were to play 2 events per year it would be the BSF in Oregon and the Shelton Showdown in WA.
Thanks MCDGC. Sleep well tonight!

What a great weekend!!! Course looked great, played smooth, and there were plenty of spotters out there for all those who sailed off the fairway. Well done Chris, Morgan, and MCDG crew!!!
Personally I have never played as well as I did on Saturday. Not only did I have my highest rated round ever, but I put two (unofficial) four digit round ratings together in one day.
I don't know what to be the most tickled about: my golf, the great course, the great organization, or that simply superb mac n cheese.
I can't wait for next year!!!

Lundy, it was a real pleasure to play with you this weekend!
And You beat me to the punch. I think the highest compliment I can give to Gliberts, Morgan and all the hard working MCDG crew is this: If I were only going to be able to play in one tourney a year it would the Showdown in Shelton.

I will continue the heaping of praise onto everyone at MCDGC and especially Chris Gilberts/Morgan Rothrock, the best one/two punch TD combination in the state. I could not have possibly had a better weekend, played some of my best golf ever, (highest rated round ever on saturday) won $600 dollars of skins with Crabtree, got tons of people newly dyed plastic thanks to my wife Danni, tirelessly dyeing discs as she has become so proficient at, and just overall got to spend two plus days with lots of people I really enjoy being around. You guys deserve every ounce of kudos you've received, it can't be said enough how great this event is, and I could easily see it becoming a National Tour event somewhere down the road, that's the level MCDGC can attain with Shelton Springs. I can't wait for next year, thank you so much!!

Wow!!!! What an awesome weekend. My gut hurts from all the laughing we did. Oh and from gorging myself on the endless supply of killer grub. That mac and cheese was TOP notch. Best ive ever had from a white man. B.A. even said it went down real nice with all the CROW he was eating. Next year I will supply B.A. with the custom tee shirt. Frisbee Golfer?!
Gilby, you and your crew are top notch. You guys did it all. I hope you guys continue to do this kind of stuff for years to come. MCDG, great group of guys, be proud of yourselves on a job well done.

I AM TRYING TO THINK OF A BETTER DISC GOLF WEEKEND AND I CAN NOT. THE COURSE ITSELF IS AMAZING WITH BOTH FUN AND TOUGH FAIRWAYS THAT CHALLENGE YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. THE TEEPADS AND TEE SIGNS ARE ABSOLUTELY SECOND TO NONE!!!
I SAID IT BEFORE....I AM PROUD TO BE A MEMBER OF THE MASON COUNTY DISC GOLF CLUB EQUALLY TO THAT OF PIERCE COUNTY WHICH HAS BEEN MY HOME FOR 18 YEARS OF DISC GOLF.
$500 FOR FIRST PLACE MASTERS IS MY BIGGEST PAYOUT YET AND THE ACE ON HOLE 13 RED HELPS A LITTLE TO. EVERYTHING WAS GOING TO SO WELL I WAS WONDERING IF I ACCIDENTLY SOLD MY SOUL TO YOU KNOW WHO.
GOT TO GIVE IT UP TO LONNIE AND THE AMAZING SETUP HE HAD IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK FOR SCRIPT..........I JUST WANTED TO MOVE IN THERE WAS SO MUCH PLASTIC.............
DEFINTELY BE THERE NEXT YEAR!!!

I don't usually chime in, after an event, because I usually have a great time at all of them, but... the consensus is... this was an extraordinary event in all ways, and I agree completely. Run on time, like a Swiss train, great eats and drink, and courses, and the whole scene itself.
It was worth the trip from Spotucky, and I suspect you'll see more Eastsiders next year, when they hear about how fine this year was.

It sounds like you "Gilby'ed" it.....
Hey Mason County, you guys put on a great tourney on an awesome course. Sweet player's pack, incredible salmon lunch, and a party I have a hard time remembering. Campground was so fun I ended up spending Sunday night there too (despite camping between Todd Bates and Gawain).
Shelton Rocks! See you next year!

First off, thank you everybody for the sentiment. It sounds like everybody had a good time at the Showdown!
I have to give a BIG THANK YOU to everybody that helped out this year, especially Co TD Morgan, he really is the man behind the scenes that makes it all happen, Bake Baker, the most dedicated person I have ever met, and Chris Auseth, the guy with the resources. These guys are extremely dedicated to Mason County Disc Golf and if it wasn't for them, there wouldn't be an amazing course there, let alone a tourney.
A BIG THANK YOU to all of the volunteers that spent a LOT of time on getting the course ready and a lot that came the day of to help spot, cook, take pictures, and set up/ break down TC.
A BIG THANK YOU to Rex and Perissa Grey for the camping setup and the players party on Saturday night. Terry Surratt for cooking up all that salmon that Ray and Jay Rothrock donated.
And one more BIG THANK YOU to our sponsors and the City of Shelton, WA. They gave of their resources and bank accounts to help make this a success.
We have completed the TD report and it should be part of the next update.
Here are the results and payouts http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/79229
See ya next year at The Showdown!
PS We will be starting another thread for the Showdown III real soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
