View Full Version : Stumptown Slosh Series 2011-2012

Stumptown Disc Golf is pleased to announce another winter of Slosh events for everyone to enjoy. As many of you already know the Stumptown Slosh series are one-day PDGA sanctioned C-Tier events the club uses to help mentor members who want to try their hand running PDGA sanctioned events. We would like to thank these individuals for stepping up this year.
Schedule:
Sunday, November 13th, 2011 - North Bonneville - Justin Gross
Check-In: 8:00am-8:30am
Players Meeting: 8:45am
Tee Off: 9:00am
Saturday, December 17th, 2011 - Horning's Hideout (Canyon) - Emma-Rose & Garry Hanley
Sunday, January 22nd, 2012 - TBA - Ashley Petersen
Saturday, February 18th, 2012 - Lunchtime Disc Golf Course - Dan Brown
Stumptown Disc Golf has also decided to use the Slosh Series as fund-raising events to help replace the baskets at Lunchtime Disc Golf Course. With five dollars from every Slosh entry fee will going directly to the Lunchtime basket fund started by Dan Brown and DGOD, we feel we should be able to raise enough money for 4-5 more baskets to go along with the 9 baskets already funded by this awesome effort.
We will be holding the final event, TD'd by Dan Brown himself, at the Lunchtime Disc Golf course and if everything proceeds as planned we should be able to announce the impending purchase of 15 new baskets for the course.
We encourage everyone to come out to support these events. If ever there was a great reason to come out and play some winter golf... this is it!
Thanks,
Jeff Hagerty

Funny you should mention that.
Yes, I placed an order for 350 Stumptown Slosh discs from Innova.
Here is what is coming our way!
KC Pro Rocs
KC Pro Glow BB Aviars
Champion Boss
Champion Eagle
Champion Leopard
Champion Orc
Echo Star Destroyer
Star Firebird
Star Katana
Star TeeBird
Star Vulcan
I did double down on some of the more popular molds, and I made sure they would include some lighter weight plastic as well. In fact, I think we have a little something for everyone.
I will say this much though... people playing at the North Bonneville event will get first dibs on the good stuff! :yay:

I'm really excited about the Slosh series this year.
I had my little boycott last year but it's a new year.
Not to rehash old pooh but I had my opinion and Jeff explained the Stumptown view very clearly and with respect. Thank you. sir
I respected that but desided that I still felt a bit differently.
A year later and I'm still pleased that Jeff took the time to explain the "Slosh" side of the matter so I feel good about getting onboard this year.
Again, Thank you, Bullseye.
Fundraiser for baskets, cool. I got an extra $20 that I'll be handing to Justin at N. Bonneville. Anyone who fells like matching that, feel free.
Oh yeah, this years "Slosh" logo is stellar. Very Nice, Ryan!
I do wish that the second one did not land on a Rockwood Winter series. I'll have to miss that one but plan to be at all the rest.
My friends Justin, Gary and Brian said that last years Slosh"es" were a blast. When can I sign up?
Hey, Justin, need a hand at NB?

Phil that is awesome. I'm glad to see you'll be joining us.
For anyone who might still be on the fence about the Slosh Series, I just got some great news from North Bonneville. In addition to the humble Slosh Series players packs... (Hey, these are inexpensive, 1 day C-Tiers afterall) Justin has lined up a REALLY nice addition to the players packs for this first event ONLY. More information will be forthcoming, but trust me when I say people who sign up promptly will be pleasantly surprised indeed.
I expect to have online registration opened within the next few days. Once registration opens, do NOT delay if you want to guaranty you get one of these awesome... uhhh... things. :whistler:

... i neglected to put in my pdga # when i signed up and it wouldn't add to my cart, either... there may in fact be a glitch in the works somewhere... i thought the glitch was just in my works, so i kinda feel better now...

Just want to say i'm pretty excited to see Mr. Ray on the registration list!! Also want to put out there as this is the first PDGA sanctioned event ever held at Bonneville there will be trophies for fist place finishers. As my family and myself are hand making them thats all we can do. I am working very hard to make this a memorable event in the Slosh series. I would like to thank Stumptown for helping me to realize this goal I have been working on for the past couple years. In particular I would like to thank Ryan Gwillim for all the input and encouragement he has given me during this time. Ryan is an outstanding member of our disc golf community and we are very lucky to have him around. I would also like to encourage any and all women disc golfers to sign up for this event. We have a division for every skill level and Bonneville is one hell of a fun course to play. Come on out enjoy the beautiful Columbia River Gorge and play some golf!

Alright everyone,
The first Slosh event of the year is about 1/2 full at this point. If you want to get yourselves one of the awesome hoodies the city of North Bonneville is putting up please make sure you get yourselves signed up ASAP. Remember, this is the only Slosh event that will be getting these sweatshirts, so if you want one... this is your only chance.
We plan on having enough hoodies on hand to cover all of the players, but the only way we can guaranty your size is if you get yourself signed up by Thursday! Otherwise, you'll get your choice of whatever is left over... whether it fits or not.
Jeff
PS: Many thanks to the City of North Bonneville for stepping up and buying these for us crazy disc-golfers.

Installed inner chains on the Mach 5 baskets at the course. Very sticky and sweet!!
Jeff, Kel, Chris and I went out and played today and I had a couple of comments about the course.
1. The flow is better but I still think the walk from 6-7 is huge and not obvious without a map or signs. I would personally make hole 2---> hole 1, and then hole 1 would be hole 6. The initial walk to the starting hole which would be the current hole 2 is the largest walk but then the flow from 6 to tee one makes more sense then 6 to 7. Trails are being created from the current basket to the next tee but in some cases it was difficult to figure out were to go and we had to refer to the map on our phone. After the first round it was more obvious.
2. We had a lot of nasty spit outs on the baskets today. Several times the chains would part and putters would hit the pole and then come back out. When we looked at the chain configuration it appears to either be set up to allow the pole to be exposed on certain angles or the added chains were not installed with the idea of closing off gaps to the pole. I can see this being a really big issue when the wind is really blowing and you have to putt hard to get the putter solid into the chains. Have a look at the added chains when you are out there and see if it makes sense to you.
It was a beautiful day out there today and again not very much wind. I think the temp hit in the 60's out there as we were all over dressed and warm throughout the two rounds that we played.

We are in the process of making signs and a large course map as well as maps to be placed in a kiosk. There are only two of us doing all the work at the course and we both work full time jobs. My goal is to have all the bugs worked out by early spring. I appreciate and encourage all comments as it makes my job easier and shows me ideas I might not otherwise see. I personally have not had a single spit out, but then again I am a hyzer putter. I know what you are talking about with the chains and was waiting until the comments from TDG started rolling in. Very minimal problem with a very easy fix. As far as the walk between hole 6 and 7, I hear what you are saying. I think or some of the walks at pier and hornings and feel it to be quite minimal. I wanted hole 1 to be obvious and right at the parking lot. We had thought of making hole 2 into hole 1 early on but wanted to keep hole 1 and hole 18 right by each other and near the parking area. There are a couple of congestion spots as im sure you noticed. Again, I tried to ease those as much as I could but could only do so much. Lucky for us Bonneville is a low congestion park and 99% of the time it works just fine. Thank you for your comments. I do really appreciate them. Justin Gross

:yay: Good one Anthony!
I was out there Friday with Steve Carson, and Eric Lund joined us. First round was confusing, I have not been there since the Frozen Tundra round we played during TDG last year. I really liked the course, though leaves are falling and many teepads were fully covered after they mowed. Though I don't mind walking I would agree that the transition between is confusing, and the second round we cut across the road instead of under the tunnel and around the path:nono:.
I have an aggressive flat push putt I like to do, My target is always the center bar. I did not face any spit outs for me, but I may not be putting as hard as Flash though :wink2:. I did find the loop in the chains different, I have not encountered baskets where the extra chains are looped instead of dangling free. I'm curious if one or the other methods is considered better?
First round was calm, warm, and slightly overcast, I played very well for my abilities. Second round the wind and rain showed up, I displayed my lack of judgement playing with wind, +5 over my previous score.

Dangling free is the least effective. Looped is next. Best is when the lower end of the chains are connected to a ring.

A ring allowed to move up and down and not welded into place. Catches instead of rejects. (Right?)

TreeLove,
Have a look at the chain configuration when you are out there for team disc golf. Comment back and let us know the TDG review. I am not picking on the baskets and I do not put hard but I had 2 spitouts of the pole from 30 feet out and Kel and Jeff had several spit outs from 20 and in. Jeff hyzer putts and Kel drills'em straight in.
The added chains are nice and help catch better but I think the configuration could be optimized a little better.

Not to argue, but to learn. I'm curious, Is this an issue more with the DGA baskets then a Chain star?
If I am not mistaken Pier is using the same baskets as North Bonneville? I do see many spit outs and bounce back putts there. Those chains are dangling and do get tangled up sometimes. On a few baskets I notice I'm putting at the pole without a chain to slow down the impact.

There is nothing wrong with the DGA baskets or the dangling chains. What I am referring to is the way the added chains were configured on the top basket ring. When I looked at the basket it appears that there is a decent sized gap between chains to the pole. I am suggesting to look at the way the chains were installed to see if an optimized config can be used to better spread out the chains to create a more even distribution of disc stopping chains between the pole and the outer cage.
Pier is another course that went with the Mach 2's and then upgraded the chain assembly. I have not experienced the bounces outs at Pier like I saw in one round at North Bonneville and that is why I posed the question. I think Dabney also uses DGA baskets.
Even if the chains never change its still great to have added chains. What I learned to do was to line up my putt with the best angle to catch the most chains on the way into the pole at North Bonneville. I was only mentioning this in hopes that the local club members could take a look and see if they would want to improve the config of the added chains.

On Sunday Justin Gross invited me to play a round to look at the new chains that he added. It was rainy and a tad bit windy, but it was a lot of fun. The way that the chains are installed is unique but did the trick stopping my low profile xd... EVERY TIME! Legitimate runs at the strong side of chains caught nicely and putts even on weak side were surprisingly forgiving. This is not to say "spit outs" won't or can't happen, but in the two rounds I played in wet conditions neither Gary, Justin or I experienced a "that should have been in!" moment.
After the round we spent a few minutes driving discs into the basket to achieve a "nasty" spit out. A few times the disc bounced off of the pole and out, but on any basket there is going to be a pole in the middle to hit. To compare the baskets at pier, I'd say the overall condition and chain configuration is better. Justin changed the style to mimic the pier baskets on hole 18 and there was definitely more pole exposed.
At the end of the day the course is improved and continually doing so. Justin and CGDG have done massive amounts of work and it shows. Think how N. Bonneville was just one year ago.
Can't wait for the Slosh to begin and excited to see everyone out there!
P.S. Where are all the Lunchtime locals? Why haven't they signed up?

That makes sense we had three spit outs on hole 18 for two rounds. All of the shots were solid should have stuck type shots in my opinion.
I am not looking for the basket to catch bad putts, I would rather see those spit out or fall out. I do want to see the basket catch good consistent putts. My concern was around it being windy and also having baskets give bad spit outs. That would just be like getting sucker punched in the stomach.
Bring on the SLOSH and lets have some good times.

To be honest Dan there really are only 4 Bonneville locals. Hard to believe but its true. 3 of us are signed up and 1 is out of town on work. Its funny to me that with 1 person gone it equals 25% of the crew. I am very excited to have such a large turn out of the Westside DG community as well as my friends from Shelton. I am offering 2 CTPs. There will be a mens and a womens CTP that will run for both rounds. I will paint a 15' diameter circle around the baskets I choose. Your disc has to be within that circle to even count as a contender for the CTP. Men will shoot for a 1st run champion boss 174g. Women will shoot for a 4x JK candy Valkyrie or a champion Cobra your choice. I have multiple weights in these two discs so the choice will be yours. If nobody gets in the circle then hooray for me!

Just some advice, you might want to pick a hole that would be fair for all male divisions. Unless you are trying to make the CTP difficult to achieve.

I don't think 11 is really reachable for all of the ladies. Is 7 the shortest hole? That might be a better choice to give all the ladies a shot at that rad ctp. Hey thanks for all you are doing Justin I can't wait.

That's a great hole for the shot. If you want to make a short hole harder to CTP make the circle they have to land in smaller to qualify.

Slosh#1 $5*70 = $350.00
