The 3rd annual April Fools Doubles event will be Sunday, March 29th at Adair County Park outside Corvallis, OR. This event has filled up the last two years and I expect it will fill again. Dion Arlyn and I will be co-TD's as in years past and the format should be basically the same with a 22 hole course (44 team capacity). We will play 11 holes alternate shot and 11 holes tough shot, then break for lunch and finish with a full 22 holes of best shot. We will begin taking registrations for the event in the next few weeks and post a flyer with more information (probably through TreeLove's fine calendar).
So start thinking about who to choose for a partner and get ready for April Fools Doubles!

The event flyer is available now at Treelove's calendar, I am working on getting it posted to titledisc so people can register there. I am accepting registrations in the mail now, all of the info and the entry form are on the flyer.
As far as a mixed division goes, I don't have it listed on the flyer but I am willing to offer it at the tourney if there is enough interest. As in years past I am worried about the competitive soundness of it because there are no divisions or anything to keep the skill levels remotely close. If this doesn't bother anyone else I guess I can just offer it as is but I would like to reduce the entry fees down to the recreational or intermediate level so there will be very small prizes and it can just be a casual competition in that division.
I will post entries to this thread as I receive them and make some warnings as the event gets close to filling. Hope to see everybody back again this year.

It looks like it's up on Titledisc, SORT OF. I tried to register but it looks like it's confusing the per team price with a per player price, it wanted to charge me $120 to register an advanced team.
I don't think I did anything wrong but it's possible.....
Nate Sexton
March 3rd, 2009, 03:55 PM
I will see if I can edit the pricing on titledisc, I have had this problem in years past but this time there was a box to check that asked it it was a doubles event, I figured once checked it would understand the entry fees were per team. Sorry for the titledisc confusion.

Ok, I halved all of the fees on titledisc.com so it should be ready to go now, let me know if you notice anything else odd about the entry and I will try to get it edited ASAP.

I dont thing you are doing anything wrong. The same thing happens for me in that there is no option to register when you click on the tourny link after logging on (I'm already signed up but that shouldn't matter at that step). If you click on another event the register option appears so either:
-there is an error with this event page, or
-it has been purposely disabled because it is full or too close to the event?
I would suggest emailing Nate with you info...

We would have had a C-tier on Saturday but there was some phantom Stumptown event stealing our date on Treelove's calendar, so we backed off. Now that event has disappeared and we are SOL. Next year the weekend closest to April 1st. will have a C or B tier one day and unsanctioned doubles the next day. Don't mess with us, Dion can jump kick a stop sign....

1. I only post on the calendar what I read, or what is submitted to me for posting. It's not really my calendar, I am just the webmaster, I do it for all of us. The web site framework is provided free by Brown Bear Software. I had hoped one benefit of the calendar would be to facilitate the scheduling of events between event directors. Here we see what is actually a DETRACTION of the calendar. What is the solution? I can't think of one. I have no way of preventing a TD from canceling their event.
2. Future events NEVER "disappear". If they get moved or canceled, they get marked as such.
3. Your 2010 events have been added to the calendar.

We're not blaming you Gawain. it was just a misfortunate occurance that there was a "planned" event that never panned out, so we decided to just stick to one day. As far as me kicking a stop sign with beer in hand, i don't drink while golfing :) Lets just say that I'd hate to be some stop sign when I'm around, or even a pile of bricks...

Sounds like it's time for Silver Squirrels and Sea Biscuit to step it up! Play for cash, no need to turn pro if you don't want to... Come on guys, join us, let's mix it up! You don't really want to play unopposed, do you? We'll pass the hat and pay any increase in registration fee, won't we, MPM field? Let's do this? The TD will calculate the new larger payouts, won't he? Still wish we could see the Bear Wrestler, don't we? Where is the Eugene contingent, anyway?????

Good luck, Terry, I am not returning to Kansas City this year, but I can vouch that the clubs, the courses, the event are fantastic. Have fun, and bring it on home to the NW!
Too bad; it sounds like you won't be playing MPM at the AFD. Perhaps Sea Biscuit could play MM1, so that neither team is playing unopposed. But I bet they want a shot at our money.....

It pains me to post this, but Kim and I (Team SMO) are not going to be able to play in the AFD tomorrow. We are both totally bummed about it but she has a sinus infection and I am having the same lower back trouble that has sidelined me so many times the last couple years. We called Nate this morning to let him know and we forfeited our entry fee to go to the prize pot. We left it up to Nate to decide where the extra dough should go. We were both really excited to spend some time with all of you and throw down in the mixed field. So, go have a blast and we will catch up with you soon.
Peace out,

Bummer, guys, sure hope you start feeling better soon. Well, at least now Nate can make it in off the waiting list, oh wait, that was something else. I wonder if the next team in is MM1, MPG, or FW2? (You will pardon my use of the actual PDGA initialisms for the divisions.) They could each use another team... Or hopefully more MPG!

Kent and Kim's generous donation will be going to help pay the $85 park fees and the $60 spent by Dion on event supplies (scorecards, leadercards, flags, string, etc.) This way we will be able to take less money out of each entry and put more towards payout in every division. I expect a few division changes tomorrow to clean up some of the unopposed teams.

Dude, you sure got a lot to learn about being a TD. :slapface:You never post the results within 24 hours and NEVER, EVER post additional information.
Geezzzzzzzzz! :bricks:

(for those who might not realize, this post is only in fun and I truely admire all td's that are as efficient as Dion)

Great job Nate & Dion, nice sinister twists added to the Fools & Festivus holes. Some Festivus like weather to boot.
I had a great time playing with team quaffer as always. I'm sure I will be pushed harder at Whistlers.
Thanks Calapooia and Mr. Hyde for putting a grin on my face as I headed out for round 2. Thanks Nick and wife (sorry spaced the name), good luck with your new catering business, it was the worth the wait as I was one of the last ones to eat.
I felt OK this morning but the shoulder feels a little roasted this evening!

An umbrella was left behind on hole #3. We found it during the Intermediate playoff. I'm guessing the owner probably finished on this hole. Matt or Will does it belong to you?

not mine and i'm pretty sure it's not matts...
thanks for checking though.
nate and dion, this was a fun tourney. slightly morbid maybe, or maybe even more along the sadistic lines, but that's what made it so awesome.
rightly so, the one hole that really screwed us was the island hole. matt and i completely effed that one up last year and of course the same this year. :headbang: we aint got no excuses, save the fact that we ate the entire plate of spinach larsogna at lunch, and felt a little bogged down.
thanks for the beer calapooya, and the lunch from the caterers! we will be back next year, and WE WILL destroy that island hole once and for all.

Thank you Nate and Dion. :bowing:
Kim and I had a blast on Sunday. We got to play both rounds with Carrie and Jason (Bartles and Jaymes) and really enjoyed their company. :yay:
All the twists thrown into the course were difficult but fun. :pullhair:
Thanks to all the mixed teams who signed up and made it a real division, hopefully you'll all be back. :biggrin2:
Till next year. :seeya:

Hey great tournament Nate & Dion. :yay: The Rebal Chickflickers had a great time. We had a blast playing with team K in the first round & Discs gone wild in the 2nd round. I had an awesome time in my first doubles tournament.

Though distracted licking my wounds, I too had a fantastic time at the AFD! Even though the side games stroked us pretty hard, I enjoyed them nonetheless. We did fine on the normal extra holes, but not so good in the tough shot and in the woods. Great job by the staff, delicious lunch, and tasty brew! See you next year for sure.
