is all well and good, but it takes a huge effort and as Flash correctly pointed out it would require several people to take an unpaid part-time jobs managing this mayhem for the next two years.

In addition to that, it would require an army of volunteers willing to take up to a week of vacation time to help run the event effectively.

I'd definitely volunteer. Unless of course, by 2013 I've officially raised my rating 96 points. I get 100 hours of vacation pay a year. I'd be getting paid to volunteer. Does that constitute a professional volunteer?

I obviously would love to play but also could volunteer myself fully leading up to and during the event (outside of the rounds...) I think this is something we are very up for and should get the ball rolling now. I feel we should cut the number of events during the summer leading up to the Worlds. Get those TD's to embrace the Worlds instead of their events and help make some history for the NW......:yay::cheers:

Many pros like Avery, Val, Nate etc put in hundreds of volunteer hours at each of the courses for Pro Worlds so having 50-100 players each putting in tens to hundreds of hours in before the event and then playing is encouraged. I obviously would be in one way or another and I know at least 100 people would help put this together. The question would be who would be TD's and course marshalls and not play? We should do it.

This poll is for PRO Worlds. Should it be for combined PRO/AM Worlds? From the other thread Flash wrote:

"Last time I checked major sponsors and community organizers here in Portland have expressed only interest in a combined worlds. So this significantly complicates things. The layout would require courses for Pro, Courses for Am and maybe some overlap."

I know Flash isn't the only word on the subject, but I do think he's done his homework on this topic. Will the major sponsors in our area support just a PRO or AM Worlds?

You can change my vote from play, not volunteer, to volunteer and then play.

Not only would I commit to volunteering leading up to the event, I would also pledge to recruit at least one volunteer for the tournament. Kind of like paying a proxy to fight in a war for you. And I'd pledge to a certain amount of $ sponsorship either from myself or finding sponsors.

That is a really good question. The answer is I'm not sure. I know at least one company willing to support us if we put in a bid for Pro Worlds.

However I am pretty sure that the next available combined Worlds would be 2016. I'm not to fond of the idea of committing to anything that far out. Plus, the scale of a combined Worlds is pretty daunting and I personally feel we might have a hard time coming up with enough volunteers to support an event that requires 10+ courses for an entire week.

All of this is preliminary to gauge if running Worlds would be even remotely possible. For now, I'll just watch the poll results.

I second this input. I too would beat the streets to raise some cash for the event.

I won't vote since I live in MN now, but I'd LOVE to come play a World's in Oregon!
I could try to drum up donations from MN to help.

I would want to play, but would be willing to dedicate all my spare time up to and during the tournament! I think I could provide the necessary skills to bring food to the masses!

I'd be happy to not only volunteer but get involved at a deeper level.

It's still a long way off but I'm in for the long haul if it happens. I'm willing to organize volunteers and be a part of the Team doing the planning. This is of course contingent on how life is going when the time comes.

I know that having Worlds here makes for a great opportunity to play when it's in your own back yard but if everybody wants to do the planning and work up to the event but nobody wants to help "during" the event lets forget it. It's hard to find 30 people willing to give up 3 days to commit to helping at the BSF, how are we gonna get 3 times that for a whole week? We have a couple of TD's that love the BSF so much they put their own desires aside so that they can provide a great event for the Nation to enjoy. This is the kind of selfless commitment it is going to take from a LOT of people to pull this off.

I'm in and will be making my list and checking it twice.

Just my opinion, but I think we'd have a better shot and provide a better experience if we did just PRO worlds. The scale and work required to organize a combined worlds seems unimaginable, and I think we would lose a majority of our volunteer base if all of us Ams were playing that week. If we did do just PRO worlds then I imagine that there are at least 100 (probably a lot more) Ams in the area who would love nothing more than to volunteer for the week.

I also think that getting our state TDs together to coordinate that years tournaments such that it would allow and encourage volunteering for the event is a fantastic idea.

I personally would love to see this happen and therefore would be willing to put in work to see it happen.

A MN worlds!?!?? They are also way overdue for hosting. The twin cities has one of the best DG scenes in the world with over 10+ championship caliber courses in the metro area, not to mention Blue Ribbon Pines DGC. I would love to see that happen as well...

If you think about it----this is not just one club bidding. This is an Oregon bid. All clubs should be willing to help in any way that they can.
To have a successful Worlds, you need to build a solid foundation and that starts with great and active leadership.

Remember that this is not a competition but an opportunity to show that the Northwest is the "Capital" of disc golf.

With that said, I would advise anyone to attend the 2012 Worlds as observers and take in what it really takes to run a Worlds although we should have everything in place by then for a Northwest Worlds.
I was amazed because I was behind the scenes at Santa Cruz and you don't realize how much work this takes and the amount of volunteers that will be needed.

Just my two cents:)
