Few issues...

Is the park going to be closed/rented out for this event? I can't imagine all the casuals being too happy about the 100 plus golfers there, not to mention the amount of wear on the course from such a large gathering.

Lets say ONLY 150 people show up for this one. If my math is correct, (and it is) that would be 8.33 players per pad.
With that many people, how long will the round take? How long before you get to throw again?

During Pittser's Pier Doubles there is only 4 per card and never more than 70 players, and that round still takes forever! As a die hard golfer that runs a little long at times, and I'm sure most would agree that a 5 hour round doesn't sound too awesome...

Originally, I was excited for this tourney. Beer, Tim's delicious dogs, Pier, but after putting things together it feels like it could be a catastrophe.

Any responses to these issues would be great.

I fail to see an issue with crowding or erosion. I also fail to care about what casual golfers will think about a tournament going on.

You provided all of the reasons for why we should attend: Beer, Tim's delicious dogs, Pier.

Well, you start by assuming that 150 people WILL show up, which is quite the assumption, but here goes....

"wear on the course" have you ever been to a tournament at pier?
Tim is making cheesesteaks!
We MIGHT have a few ghost groups.
It WILL take longer than a normal round, but again, have you ever played in a tournament?
It could be a catastrophe... but I dont think so:whistler:
Who is this?
I would either suggest you save yourself the AGONY of worrying about all these things and dont go. (That would drop the number of players per tee-pad to 8.27 and might save everyone a good couple of minutes)
Or.... just show up, chill out, stop running a little(lot) long, and have a good time. The choice is obviously yours.
Hope to see you:cheers:

Sigh....

First of all, I did not have an aggressive tone towards DGOD or Tim.

My assumption of 150 players (which may be a low estimate) came from the posting that said 174 came out last time! At Hornings nonetheless, this being at Pier will probably bring more golfers due merely to the location.

I've played multiple tournaments at Pier, and OBVIOUSLY they took longer than normal rounds, BUT! The park was rented and no recreational players were there.

The fact that it is on a weekend and Pier is a popular place, unlike Hornings to an extent, will bring out these casual golfers that Sam doesn't care about. People will show up hoping to play a somewhat "quick round" with a buddy and realize very quickly that they'll have to either leave or just simply deal with it. That sucks for them. Easy to say when it doesn't effect you.

At the end of the day, you can't just "USE" the park for your profits if it inhibits the public from using the course under what should be normal circumstances, a weekend with no rental agreement. We all pay taxes and give to the donation box, and all deserve to play at our own accord, unless the course is of course, rented.

One negative opinion noted. We know who won't be coming. Awesome. Anyone who shows up at Pier on the weekend and expects to play a "quick round" is fooling themselves. Those days are long over.

WOW! Look man(or Woman? Who are you?), your first post was about more than the rights of casual disc golfers. You asked about the tounament and how it would be run, and how it might be a "catastrophe", and how it would put alot of "wear" on the course, and how you wanted to play in it untill you started "putting things together".
And now its: "you can't just "USE" the park for your profits"? what??
Im not sure who you are, but maybe we'll rent the park and STILL let you play through! And give you a free cheesesteak and a free beer(if you're over 21?)

I guess it would be better to rent and close the park so casual players can't play at all rather than hope they can deal with a little back-up. Perhaps Mr. Humplick would like that better?

Me thinks we need to put away the troll food and let this guy get back to the underside of a bridge, somewhere. That, and we should maybe let him know that his account can be deleted for not providing factual information at registration - like his name. I mean... we can hope that's the case... for his sake.

This thread is hilarious. I do think you should rent the course if it isn't too cost prohibitive, though. There really was an insane turnout at Save the Sausage Guy and I wouldn't expect any less at this event. Might even be wise to consider adding a few holes, in addition? It's very easy to be less dickish about the subject than Mr. Humplick here was, though.

Dan Brown is an awesome fella!

Sam "The Ultimate, just played pro, Bagger" Gibson is too...

But instead of teaming up and having hilarious takes on my posts, why not just address my issues?

Stumptown, Firefly and any other club that has thrown a tournament of this magnitude has A: Rented the course and B: given back to the course, signs, clean-up, donation box, kiosk, etc..

What are you giving back? A six hour round? Having to wait an hour for Tim to cook up cheesesteaks for 100+? An award ceremony at a pub that realistically hasn't done anything for the disc golf community? Can Danny Brown Jr. even go?

DGOD and Tim(and now Sam) haven't done anything wrong, except not addressing the issues.. In a mature fashion.

And Dan, why do you want to know who I am so badly? What will that solve?

Thanks, Cornelius

We all want to know, at this point. You speak with a strong mind, whether or not people are agreeing with you. Then again, you come with such a biased point of view, you would be the first to know why you aren't sharing your identity. I really do think your concerns are valid, but could be better spoken. Cheers, Mr. Humplick :chug:

Probably because someone who registers for the site anonymously for the sole purpose of criticizing someone's event comes across like an irrelevant douchebag? You're probably not one, but imagine your feelings if the situation was reversed. Why not just raise your legitimate concerns in a legitimate way. You're the one acting like you are doing something wrong.

@Matt b, if the roles were reversed I wouldn't try to dodge the legitimate questions at hand by now making the issue, "who is this?"
YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

Whether I'm a Dick or not, or a fellow disc golfer or not, or usually cool with Dan, Tim, Sam and especially Emma;-), the point should be addressed.

This will be my final post, so are you going to do the right thing and rent out the course or just "use"the park for profit(not 100% payout right?)

honestly Sam, you're intelligent enough to see my stance. I understand you are cool with the DGOD crowd, as am I.
But it's unfair to the community to do business in that fashion.

Wow. I guess that I have been missing out on the drama in this thread...:waaah:

But according to the Masked Bandit here, I have been "use"ing Pier Park (and all the other local and not so local parks) for years in Team Disc Golf and being unfair to the community. Who knew?

I just don't get his point. What is different between this event and Pittser's dubs? Day of the week? Did he jump on that thread and call him out? Or is it because you get to pick your own partner? I really don't see much of a difference between the two events...

As for who is behind these posts I could give a shit. But dude, "you can't handle the truth", really? If you are looking for a movie quote to prop up your side of the argument, try picking one said by the hero, not the biggest douchebag in the film.

And on that note, I bid you all adieu and "Luke, I am your FATHER!"

Whether I'm a Dick or not, or a fellow disc golfer or not, or usually cool with Dan, Tim, Sam and especially Emma;-), the point should be addressed.

Yet you are trying to dodge my actual question, which was how would you feel about being questioned by someone who went to the effort of registering for the forum anonymously for the sole purpose of criticizing you? Would you feel the need to answer their criticism or would you just write them off?

If you have a legitimate question and such a burning need to right this injustice, then why not just be straight about it? I don't see anything so wrong about your questions - why do you?

I don't have anything at stake here. I don't know Dan, I don't know Tim other than to buy a tasty sausage when I'm at Pier, I don't live in Portland and I won't be at this event.

You asked a question: "Why not just address my issues?" I gave you a pretty reasonable explanation: people often don't feel they need to address the issues of an anonymous complainer. They probably see you as irrelevant. You could have just asked your questions like a normal person, unafraid of speaking your mind. Happens all the time here and people generally don't get all butt sore about it.

What generally doesn't happen here is someone creating a fake account just to raise some pretty run of the mill questions and then acting like a righteous warrior of truth when he's ridiculed and ignored.

And Sam's a total bagger. With a website.

Well Dan, it's now all of a sudden rented out?

Why didn't you just say "we went through the proper channels and have rented the course".

That would have solved it.

And what I said about Danny Jr. was true, he can't get in to the brewery!

I never disliked anything DGOD has been affiliated with, and I went the route I did to NOT MAKE IT PERSONAL!

The views I have I've shared with others and they agreed with me, wanted to point some light on the subject.
The anonymity of it let me be a little more "dickish" and STR8 to the point.

Now that is gone obviously and it truly doesn't bother me. I was laughing my ass off multiple times at the hilarity of the thread.

1. We dont HAVE to rent the course, as you stated. Tim has a special permit that allows us to do this. And how do you know when it was or was not rented?
2. there was nothing to be solved, See 1. Im not worried about your morral conundrums.
3. So you didnt want to make it personal, for who? yourself? You brought my kid into it... thats a bit personal. You called sam out, thats personal.
4. the views you have shared? like what... "we have to rent out the course or its not fair to the casuals"? "Course wear"? "How long before you get to throw again"? Waiting an hour for a cheesesteak? That is a "personal" statement directed at Tim, No?
5. "STR8 to the point"... I still dont know what your point is?
6. It is a funny thread, but im not laughing WITH you.... yadayada.

Sure you can also probably buy a cheesesteak and a beer, but again you'll be behind the line for everybody who paid their money up front and is also waiting for a cheesesteak...

2 divisions AM/Mixed and ADV.

Sounds confusing. Is there 2 divisions of am and mixed and a third of advanced? Or more likely it is just am/mixed and advanced. I think you should have 4 divisions. Advanced mixed and intermediate mixed, and advanced and intermediate. But what I think doesnt matter because I cannot play this event anyway. Have fun!

Not so much confused, here, but it does make more sense to have at least 3 divisions. Would be pretty easy for a really advanced player to take on an am partner and sandbag pretty easily in a mixed division. Either way, not gonna stop me from playing, already got a partner. As for the "unforeseen circumstances", well... I don't know how "unforeseen" they were and am a little disappointed that the diligence needed to make this event happen was simply not done.

In any case, the event is now going towards raising $ for baskets at Lunchtime so that is more than enough reason for me to attend this.

Yeah... I don't believe that that happened. I believe that the permit to run this event was never attained and no clearance with Portland Parks was ever given to hold this event. Had it been cleared first, I don't think any number of emails would have made much of a difference in this case.

Can't help but feel partially responsible for the "demise" (moving) of this event for bringing up the subject in the first place.

But, hopefully in the future the right steps will be taken so the event location can remain unchanged.

Definitely don't believe that an error by the Parks Dept. would make it an issue to still play at Pier.

If we want disc golf to be taken seriously outside of the community, and truly let the sport grow, then we must take it seriously and not do shady business.

I really cannot wait for this event.

Not because I am excited to play in it - though I am - but because I cannot wait for this ridiculous issue to be behind us.

Personally - and I am going to say this because it keeps going on long past the point it should have stopped - but I don't believe that anonymous emails are what made this event move. If the parks department knows about an event and they get an anonymous email, they are not going to just ask that the event be moved to another place. If the parks department DOESN'T know about an event and they get an anonymous email, far more likely that they are going to put the kibosh on the event - as has appeared to happen.

Timmy, you know that I've got nothing but love for you, man... but I think you should just back away from this thread about the how and why and stick to posting about the awesome lunch and tournament we are going to have on Sunday at Lunchtime.

So there is no tournment this sunday at pier park????

That is correct, there is no Cheesesteak Challenge at 10 AM at Pier.

There is, however, the Lunchtime Luau, at noon, at Lunchtime.

Wow, what are the odds of that having happened?

Before I realized Lunchtime was the name of the course, I always assumed I couldn't play in the Lunchtime League b/c I worked during the day. :whistler:

So who needs a partner? I do and my plan is to bring lunchtime to its knees.

That would be fun but I already told Randy I'd partner up with him.

Kevin Davis is piling on.

He was on our card last night and generously offered to buy not 1... not 2... but 3 NEW BASKETS FOR LUNCHTIME DGC.

Kevin... YOU THE MAN!

I think that should bring us to something like... 6 new baskets at this point?
