The Spokane City Cup will be called the Spokane Country Cup this year. Here is a preview of what Gordy has planned for the 10th Anniversary of this wildly popular Spokane event.

The Flyer will be posted by this weekend. The registration form is included. It's not complicated but you will want to read it carefully. :posting:

For example, the top two teams from the Friday random draw doubles will advance to a $25/hole singles skins round on Sat after lunch on the Final '10' layout. Tie breakers for advancement will be by sudden death. :shooting:

This event promises at least $1000 cash added to the player generated portion of the total pro purse and a minimum 125% payout of the total amateur award purse.:yay:

Meals will be provide free of charge on Sunday after the regulation round. They will consist of hamburgers and bratwurst, salads and sides.

There will be new holes figured into the Jumanji layout and they will be available for play by Friday preceding the event.:chinscratch:

This will be a championship event and your participation is encouraged. The INWS will honor the participation of any player in any division they are qualified for. :trophy:

Taking into account that this event is in mid July there may be severe smoking restrictions in place. :cop:

Your cooperation and participation are the only things that make this event possible so please bring your 'A' Game and your highest standards as well ; This will be fun.
Your Four Mound Hosts, :chug: Gordy and Jaymie.

Who knows Mr. Moose may even make an appearance.

After talking with Gordy I now understand the Saturday Skins. :D

If you compete in the random draw doubles on Friday and place first or second, after any tie breakers, you are invited to compete in a skins round on the Final 10 Course on Saturday after the regulation round. :trophy:

The Friday doubles purse will be paid out on Friday and the Skins will be sponsored by Four Mound Disc Golf Reserve. :chug:

There will be no charge for the four players that will be competing and the Skins will be played for $25 per hole for a total of $250.

I hope to see everyone at the doubles on Friday night and Thanks Gordy!!

The flyer/entry is attached to the bottom of this post for download and mail-in entries. :yay:

On-line registration will be available at PDGA sign-up in a few days. :posting:

Can one play the doubles, and qualify for the skins, without being registered for the event? Can one just play the doubles?

As in the past you must be a registered player in the tournament to play in the doubles.

There's an event flyer a few posts above that has answers.
It'll probably be hot so there will be lots of cold water on the course including fresh cold running water and a sprinkler right after hole 27 on your way back to #1.
For your information the new water tank will NOT be sitting on the Stimpi Ridge hole (Jumanji # 16,Hawk #15) It's just resting there on it's way up the rest of the hill.
There is another moose prowling the grounds, this time a black one with antlers. He was hanging out by the pond on Hawk #1 looking for Sean's disc so I told him we already got it.
The $25 per hole Skins round is sponsored by Physical Therapy Associates and this is about their 5th year helping this event out.
The camping areas are mowed out and the sprinklers are running.
Wednesday is weed whacker day so I hope it's not too hot. We'll try to get an early start. There'l be some special consideration for crew AFTER the whacking and branch gathering. :chug::chug::chug::chug::chug:

Do you guys put a bunch of times in a hat and draw them at random? Oh lets see, it looks like it's gonna be an 8am start time! Well that makes perfect sense seeing as how everybody is playing 1 round each day!:bricks: At least with only 1 start each day the chances of messing up the start are lower than usual.;)

Don't think I'll play doubles. Can't imagine having to play the "final 10 course" 4 times in 1 weekend. That's 94 holes of golf which aren't really a walk in the park. If I tore up the final 10 course I would shoot 27 and if I'm sucking I would shoot a 30. More than likely I'd prolly shoot a 28 or 29.. to much predictability to be interesting. Hole 1's upshot is poke and hope. Hole 2's a birdie. Hole3s an easy 3 an impossible 2 for me unless a throw it in luckily. hole 4 is a must birdie but has a lucky green because of branches and rocks on the ground. hole 5 is a getable 2 and probably the best hole on the course because of the amount of scoring swing that's possible. Hole 6 is almost exactly the same shot as 5 just longer, I usually try to hit a 60 footer after throwing a safe drive. Hole 7 is a super hard 2 and pretty much a 3. Hole 8 is a thumber layup, throw a hyzer, get my 3. Hole 9 is the prettiest and had some real scoring but with tree's growing up the hole is getting almost impossible to 2 but it's an easy 3. Hole 10 is 2able if you throw a good drive and than get lucky on the green just like hole 1. So pretty much 5 holes that I don't know what I will get on the teepad but 4 of those scores are based on luck. If I wanted to play 40 holes like that I'd play the red twice.

Look forward to meeting you 2.. We'll see how you feel about that decision halfway through the round on Sunday.. I'd rather win a tournament than play well during skins. In my opinion skins and doubles aren't real golf and I can tell you who's won every single city cup but I got no clue who's won what skins or doubles. :seeya:

I'm the groundskeeper at Four Mound and I regard it as mine all mine;) Me and the helpers have been doing as much as we can to make this Summer event as enjoyable as possible. With the Spring we had the growth to keep under management is a daunting task. I'm doing what I can to provide a good mowed fairway for each hole (except for the top of one of the mounds). Generally if you throw to the mowed part you will do OK. There's lots of tall grass outside of that. There will be food and beverage provided if you don't have to rush back to town after each round. All of each day after 1:30 or so is Yours All Yours if you want.:chug::chug::chug:

OK, I posted a jerkish comment here and removed it but there is no way TD's should be mandated to have to accomodate those who belittle their hard work, blood, sweat, etc.

If you appreciate that people are running tournaments for you, as volunteers, act like it...

I have carried more rocks and dragged more branches and dug out more teepads than you have any clue about. Ask Gordy, I figured out a couple years ago that I've spent about 35-40 on his course alone. If he wouldn't have burned his bridges I would still be out donating my time and efforts. Name 5 other people in this town that have done that much(not Gordy)

July 8th, 2011, 03:24 AM
Was it bitching when I complained about the 8am for a one round a day players meeting? I KNOW everyone else was thinking it, just cause I said it.. How THIN IS YOUR SKIN? I said I wasn't going to play doubles because I coudn't take the 40 extra holes of golf? Sorry to hurt your feelers there, geez.
Was the breakdown of the final 10 course the last straw? I've been on this forum for 10 years and I often hear people talking about what they like, don't like about courses and holes.(Poke and hope, tight RBH etc.) I have done so about quite a few courses. All I gave was my opinion which is all it is. If you hear my opinion when you look at the course you can take it or leave it. I made no personal assault towards Gordy, Bob or any other volunteer. BTW Jumanji is in my top 3 courses in the state. 1.Steilly 2. Jumanji 3. Cornwall (green course)
The one apology I must sincerely offer is the poke I made about not starting 2 tournaments in a row correctly. I realize that running a tournament is not the easiest thing in the world to do and that there is alot of stress that can cause things not to go as smoothly as planned. When I said that comment it was flippant and meant to be a joke because the way I see it is that isn't the sort of thing that happens hardly ever and the way it did happen was kind of like lightning striking twice and that I've never even heard of it happening a 3rd time.. I can't believe how many people aren't showing up for this tourney.. and that all this above really amounts to a DQ.

Well... I sure hope the SDGA hasn't sponsored this tourney.
If so, I will make sure to make a huge deal about club members being denied entrance to a club sponsored event.
That would be a MAJOR conflict of interest.

Great, you two don't get along, grow a pair and deal with it during a tourney.
You two play in completely different divisions, just don't interact with each other.
And Gordy, you have asked to be a continuing figurehead for the SDGA, you are bound to receive some negative comments, this just sounds like a power trip.

Gordy, you can't take the positive and negative comments as part of the job, you work to undermine club votes and committees, and you won't even interact with your own club members; maybe you should consider stepping down?

So I am torn between two subjects here. My love for disc golf and my love for people to do whatever the hell they want on their property.

I have never known what happened between Jeremy and the Crafts. I am sure that there is a reason for the bad blood (at least, I hope there's a reason). What I am unsure of is why people in Spokane feel the need to air out all this putrid and disgusting hatred on a disc golf forum used to attract sponsors and new people to the sport.

If I was going to sponsor any event in Spokane, all it would take to deter me is looking at stuff like this. The Spokane Disc Golf Association forum is filled with seething hate between members. Our tournaments get marred by these types of things. We are supposed to be elevating the sport to a higher level in Spokane. God knows we have the courses to do so. Yet we constantly are shooting ourselves in the feet with these disagreements. It's like Facebook. People log on and all of a sudden they just spew out everything in their minds. Most of the time it's doing more damage to those around them then they realize. Most of the time, they don't seem to care.

Gordy, Jaymie, I love you guys. You have always treated me with respect and as family every time I show up to your wonderful courses.

Jeremy, every time I have talked to you, you have come across as a nice guy with great idea's on how to incorporate disc golf in the major leagues.

Can we all just put aside the drama and huck some damn plastic into some metal chains? That's what this sport is all about right?

Very odd that every tournament I've played in Spokane has been a nice mellow and pleasant drama free experience, yet the Spokane forums tend to read like a second rate disc golf reality tv drama gone bad.

From my perspective that's good, as I would much rather have the tournaments be fun when I'm there and watch all this other fun stuff from a distance.

I really wish I could play this tournament but the drive is just too far for a short weekend.

Hmm... I agree that I am not the most positive attitude on the course and I am working on it.
As for throwing bags, never have thrown my bag, tourney or otherwise.
Zoo Town was an unfortunate example of behavior on my part. Those who were present heard me give myself a warning during the 1st round AND apologize to my card and the TD's for my negative vibe. Christian mulled things over with me (extremely professional) and even talked me into continuing with the following round.

Thankfully I had help at Zoo Town, perfect example of a PRO helping an AMATEUR learn the ups and downs of tourney golf.
I am willing to gain experience, learn from my mistakes, and move on. (sounds like golf)

I hope we can all keep this perspective.

Just because Shrack has had some issues on the course it really doesn't take away from his post, but it was a side note Psyco. Thanks.
The club should not be supporting this ban in any way and if so the club should offer a refund of club members payments that are no longer willing to be part of a club that promotes discrimination. Small claims court is a real possibility here. Either that or the Co-property owner should step down as Treasurer. Gordy has supported Jaymie's decision fully and his ethics have been brought into question several times previous to this.
Jaymie. Even weirder that it was your decision to not allow me to play because we haven't spoken in a couple years. Unless you count hiding under the false bravado of your made up internet name Disc Golf Diva. Under this name you clearly showed your feelings toward me and all the while trying to act as if you were just a casual observer. You must have been really holding your stuff in and letting it fester. Not Good. I can't blame you for not talking about this on a forum because you don't want to talk about it at all. Sorry to read about all the (seemingly unnecessary) negative interactions going on in these local boards. It is just an unfortunate consequence of the freedom that a keyboard provides when there is no person in front of us to force us to deal with the consequences of our "words".

Everybody has the right to their opinion. Some are right and some are... "their own". It is what it is and we have to make the best of it all by taking in what is right and filtering out the bad. No point in taking garbage to heart. That just makes for more garbage. :headbang:

I dont know any of the history behind the disputes on here, but its a bummer to see them getting aired out in such an ugly manner. I do know that their are not many people as passionate about disc golf as the crafts, yoduh, justin, and joe. All of you donate a lot of time and effort into disc golf (not just playing), and that is a very rare thing. I really hope you guys can put aside your differences, because I would love to see the courses and tournaments put on by your combined efforts. Thanks to everyone who did the work to transform spokane into a great disc golf area, and I hope everyone gets over their differences in order to continue furthing the sport. Joe you have to tone down your wording on here man. It is often far to strong and there is no question that its attacking people, and you guys will never get along with that talk.

No, Brian Cook came back in spectacular fashion, shooting an 8 under and holding off Big Mike Leslie in the final 10. It was a thing of beauty watching Brian rattle off 5 birds in a row on Jumanji on holes that are not easy 2's!

Howdy,

The Country Cup this year was one of the best ever!! It's hard to decide what highlights were my fav...

First, the weather was outstanding. The super high winds projected for Friday's Double's never materialized. The Mound was bustling with folks anxious to get out and play. The two top teams had the chance to play on Saturday for $250 worth of skins (donated from Gordy and Jaymie's pocket.) The competition was fierce and there was a sudden death play off for 2nd place.

Saturday morning was gorgeous. There we're plenty of delicious cookies, apples and yogurt for the players to eat for breakfast and take out on the course. In addition Kymmers brought her PA system. They were jamming cool tunes from the porch and no one had to shout at the player's meeting.

I had a phenomenol group. Got to play with Jaymie, Nancy and Kym. I didn't shoot well but had some of the best fun and a smooth pace the entire time.

The tourney provided lunch then opened the PBR keg. It was so much fun following the skins with the beer truck and the huge crowd! Tom killed the skins!

Nothing like ending the day with an hour or so of catch with Jaymie's Zepher. I guess the party continued well into the night after I was home after a long soapy shower tucked away in my compfy bed. Evidently a few bottles of tequila were consumed and a grand time was had by all.

Sunday morning was beautiful again and the day started with good tunes and another player's meeting.

One of the most impressive things in my opinion was how everyone came together and was so respectful and helpful and considerate of one another. We've all read many of the unpleasant posts on this forum. You would have never believed any of it seeing how kind everyone was to one another. Gordy, Bob, Justin, Joe and others...All working together like the real people we've all seen and made friends with in person. It was cool.

We had another delicious lunch provided on Sunday...and yes ANOTHER keg of PBR!!! The truck followed the final five players around the final ten holes. We say some outstanding play out of Mike, Brian, Aaron, Eric and Ray. Great sportsmanship. Great times!!

Kudos to Bob (and his family) for TDing, Jaymie and Gordy for hosting at FourMound, the Verbargs, Van Zost, Jub, Kym, Joe, Justin and all the others that contributed in some way to make this a phenomenal tourney.

If you missed it...do whatever you can to make it next year!!
