Hello disc golf community. I have recently been approached by members of the City of Toledo planning committee about running a disc golf event on August 6th in Toledo Washington. This event would do 2 things: raise money for repairs to city of Toledo (I'm not sure exactly how this works yet) and display our sport in front of the community. Before I go on, a little background:
Toledo Washington is a small town (city limit population about 350) about 5 minutes off of I-5 almost dead center between Centrailia/Chehalis and Longview/Kelso. 5 years ago the City was taking proposals for what to do with the city park; my friend and I drew up plans for a 9 hole course in the park with expansion capabilities to 12 holes and enough room for 18 in the surrounding schoolyard and baseball fields for 18 for big events. We got down to the final 3 proposals out of a hundred or so before we ran out of steam. Apparently we were not forgotten.
We would not be able to utilize the park but there is a wooded area behind the high-school and some field area too. Basically, my question to you, as the disc golf community, is:
Would you drive to Toledo Washington for a cheap event ($5-10) showcasing our sport to that community?
There is already a course in Castle Rock Washington so this could become a new little pocket of disc up the I-5 corridor. I havn't said yes yet as I wanted to gauge interest and get some commitments before putting in the time and effort (as well as giving myself time to survey the area and come up with baskets!).
So... would you set aside your weekend plans on August 6th to help grow the sport? What kind of event would get you to come out? What kind would turn you off of it?
