Planning on going out for my 1st time in Portland and in over a 1.5 years...was hoping I could get some direction to the 1st course I should play within 30-45 minutes of SW Portland. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Pier Park or Timber would be good courses for a re-addiction round.

timber is in Estacada right off the main highway (224) just north of town. If you are in SW, I'd just stick to Horning's. There are 3 courses there of varying skill level.

Pier first, then Horning's Hideout.

Pier, Horning's, and Timber are all good choices. From SW Portland, Pier is the closest but Horning's is the best bang for your buck, especially if you want to make a whole day of it.

... hit pier up early (like mid-morning) or else the mob scene sorta takes away from the experience... but horning's is a great way to make a day of it with all three courses to play...

About time someone recommended the best course in the West: Riverbend at Milo McIver State Park in Estacada OR.

What kind of course are you looking for? How about challenge 1-10? Time of play? Terrain?

Here is a link to my home course back in MI, maybe this will give you an idea of what im used to. Definitely prefer some length and elevation with some trees. I prefer a good mix...and definitely want a more challenging round. Time of play is not too important, but I dont want to go play to stand around because it is super busy.

Milo,Milo!!!! how can 1 not want to get their azz kicked on a NT Course  :yay:
You can head south to Adair for another great semi-local course prob. about 1.5 hr's to get there str8 down I-5. and you could hit up 4 other courses inside 30 mins from there.

Also if your gonna shoot for weekend casual play even with all of the courses in the Portland area many courses are packed by 11:00am. so either play during the week or head out early if you want to avoid the crowds.

Get your butt out to Horning's Hideout. 3 courses - it can be as difficult as you want it to be. Mix of woods/open holes. Elevation. Good vive. No crowds. You'll love it. Plan to be out there quite a while.
You can't go wrong with Milo, either. While you're there, take a side trip to Timber.
