Hi all,
The 2011 Willamette Open will be held at Willamette and Adair on July 16-17th. On line sign up should get turned on Sunday May 22nd through store.northwestwsignup.com. Mail in registration is also an option. e-mail me for the form as the file size is too big to attach. I did ask Gawain to link it to the schedule as well.
It could fill quickly so do not delay sending your entry. The field will be limited to 150 players in 2 flights.
The WDGC is arranging camping permits for Adair. There is a $3 camping fee per night. If you know you will be camping please pay with your registration so I have less to deal with Friday night/Saturday morning.
The Willamette Open will once again be sponsored by Calapooia Brewing and we have gone back to the original Willamette Park inspired Blackberry logo design for this year. The award ceremony will be at Calapooia which provides a little balance in travel times for players to return home. With no series awards it should end earlier than years past.
We have Glo Champion Leopards and Firebirds coming as Fund Raiser discs. We will also be selling Eco Star Destroyers and Sidewinders as fund raisers.
I will also be running an 18 hole mini golf event following Skinny's Summer Sizzle at Waterloo on June 4th as a Willamette Open fundraiser. Registration for the mini event will be at 3:30 pm and will get started at 4:00. For a $5 entry fee players will get a Calapooia Brewing stamping weighted mini driver and a mini Champ Aviar. There will be prizes for the top few positions including a mini basket for 1st place. No scrip or cash payout since it is a fund raiser. We laid out the course today it will be fun and challenging.
:cheers::chug: Calapooia!

Thanks the PDGA is having alot of matching errors with the uploads.
Get those entries in so I can order the right quantity and mix of short sizes
I'm not sure why they are coming in so slow for a great event.

I'm really bummed to miss my first WO in six years! But I have to plan out my tournament schedule so far in advance now that I miss out on the chance to play some of the later announced ones. I had a weekend in October bookmarked for the WO this year but the date change caught me off guard. I'm sure it will fill.
Upside for me is that I booked the yurts at Whistler's Bend that weekend! :)

Matt,
FWIW, River Appreciation Days is on Saturday the 16th @ Whistlers.
This is a great event for anyone who love's rivers, trees, hippies, beer and live rock and roll music.
Also, there just so happens to be a disc golf event on Saturday!

The Willamette Open has been advertised as 4 rounds total for all participants. I understand that some actually like to finish earlier on Sunday, but the move to July from October gives us longer days to work with. The Pro + TBD flight will play 2 at Willamette Saturday and 2 at Adair Sunday. The Am flight will play the reverse which should enable us to finish reasonably early on Sunday.
I'm a little disappointed in the status of registrations (a little over 1/2 full) with the event less than 3 weeks away. I need to order shirts now. I'm getting nice dry weave polos through Huklab and it is a bummer to not have the right shirt sizes or to wind up with a bunch of extras trying to guess how many participants there will be. Please get those registrations in to ensure I have the right shirt size reserved.

Willamette is a notoriously lefty-friendly course...
In a notoriously righty-friendly world.
As a southpaw with a northpaw sidearm, it occurs to me that any course that plays 'fair' is deemed a lefty-course... in my experience, courses like Willamette are few and far between (outside of Spokane's wonderful layouts :))

If by lefty-friendly you mean is has a few token lefty holes, you are correct. If you are actually saying it favors a lefty backhand over a righty backhand you may need to walk it again to take another look :nahnah:
It's still right hand dominant but is more left hand friendly than most courses out there.

It really depends on how the course is layed out. A lot of the holes have a lefty and a righty basket location.

Is there also a mando and or OB around the tennis courts? Without either/both of those, at 410' and fairly clear lines all the way to the basket, that would still be a par 3, making Adair the standard par 55.

Hi all,
Not sure why I'm not getting notifications of posts anymore. I did make some minor changes to the planned course layouts but no Par 60 Adair layout. I haven't decided whether to call it Par 54, 55 or 56. Hole 1 will not be played to 17 long to avoid some potential conflicts and waiting on near by groups to put out. But it won't be made easier and could get tagged as a Par 4. There will be a temp basket out by the front entry of the park. With the entry road and beyond OB, tennis courts too of course. Hole 17 will still have an OB line marked making the path and beyond OB.
The new pin placement on the berm for hole 10 will be used in the tournament. There might also be a new placement for hole 8 at Willamette if Greg Alpert can get the anchor put in on the mound behind the left placement.
I'm up to 110 registrations now. I will be running out of some shirt sizes but ordered a few more to hopefully avoid those issues. Get those registrations in, I want everything prepared Friday night and ready to roll on Saturday.

I took the time to look, and it appears that 9 of 48 advanced players have a higher rating than you. Seems like a no-brainer where you should play if you like some competition.

Here are the updated Pool Assignments.
Flight B - All Pro divisions and Intermediate
Willamette Sat. / Adair Sun.
53 registrations as of 7/11
Flight A - All Advanced Divisions
Adair Sat. / Willamette Sun.
62 registrations as of 7/11
Flights will be limited to 72 players.
Adv Mstr - and then there were 3. Will Sam join Jesse in moving to Advanced? Rick Reichert made that choice from the get go - bring it on youngsters!
What should I do if there are only 2? Will Gawain move back from Intermediate. If Sam would move up, based on the ratings it would look reasonable and fair to combine MM1 and MG1.
Don't forget to pack or plan for your own lunches as we have not included any meals. Both courses are close enough to Corvallis to run and get something to eat, and Adair has some limited options near by.

What will prevent all this moving up, moving down, moving sideways, sandbagging, etc. will be when TDs start offering ratings-based events. I am sure they would be strife with their own flavor of melodrama, but it least it would be DIFFERENT melodrama!

I applaud your decision to put your big girl panties on. So much so that I have taken the 8th spot in Pro Masters to make it 2 even groups!
:nahnah:
Now all we need is for Yose or Jay T. or another seasoned pro to register so Jay, Dale, and I can make our own division and avoid all the smack-talking, yammering drivel that you kids are so fond of.

Whoever the TD is for this. My pdga number is wrong on the sign up list. I do have a rating, im not from denmark and my membership is current therefore im guessing my number should be 38464 and not 38484, its probably my bad on the registration or something but either way its wrong on the pdga website.

If not that's fine too, we were glad to help!

Yammits, Greg Johnson is the TD. I'm just running the raffle and helping with the rest. He checks in here so he should be able to answer that question.
You said Jeremy Medlen will be pringing the prizes. Will he be playing pro or am. Greg and I will be out at Adair Friday afternoon, if he is coming out for doubles he can get the items to us then.
Thank you

Yammits just got confused who replied about making DiscAddiction a hole sponsor. More confusion though in that I do not show a Jeremy Medlen registered for the tournament. He needs to call me ASAP and or register thru NWsignups. What div, PDGA#, shirt size etc.

Bump still looking for a ride from Adair to Willamette Saturday morning.
Hey my husband is dropping me and our trailer off at Adair on Firday, and then heading home. I play Willamette Saturday morning is there anyone camping at Adair on Firday that can hitch a ride with to Willamette on Saturday morning?
Thanks,

Hey there All,
On a (kinda) related note, players should know that this weekend is the da Vinci Days festival in Corvallis. There are activities going on all over the lower campus and Downtown areas. There are also a few parades, although I would not expect them to conflict with player travel to the courses in the mornings, since we'll be moving before the da Vinci revelers are. That said, if you're looking for food over the lunch break you may want to avoid Downtown. These silly Corvallians really get their da Vinci on, and you might be pushing time if you have to wait Downtown for food. There are a few choices in South Corvallis for food, and those who are at Adair can find plenty of choices along 9th Street if they're inclined to come back into town for lunch.
See ya'll this weekend :)

Spoke with Jeremy and he said he's all signed-up and will be heading down Friday, but it's unlikely he'll get there for Doubles, but he'll be looking for you guys at tourney central!
Great luck and most of all have fun everyone!

The Intermediate winner missed the first two holes of his third round and still shot a 65 at Adair. Pretty solid for a guy who has only been playing since October.
Erin Bredeweg won Advanced Women. Essjay got second.
Ward Stroud won the Advanced Crusties.
That's about all I know.

Hey now, I have a day job too! I tried to get them entered into a spreadsheet last night but I was too tired. The scores are now loaded, so you can check out your ratings good or bad. I will get the prize amounts listed in a little while.
Congrats to Nate on his 4th straight Willamette Open Title.:trophy::trophy::trophy::trophy:
Congrats to all the winners. Each of the Pro Winners won by 10 strokes or more! That is some standout wet weather golf. When I report that, the ratings could go up a little.
Good luck at Am Worlds Rick, represent Oregon and the NW well.
A big Thanks to Nate and all the huge help from WDGC members and Chandler who helped mark the OB lines and Mandos.
Thank You to Laura & Mark for their continued sponsorship and support of disc golf and the Calapooia Brewing staff working at the awards ceremony on Sunday. :chug::chug:

As a past attempted AM worlds bagger I would highly suggest playing with the open masters a year prior to AM worlds. Just take scrip instead of cash.
