Sudoku Showdown
>159.9g Class Tournament
Saturday, July 9th at SeaTac DGC
http://www.chainbangerz.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/product_image/sudoku3.jpg
Get your pencil's ready, yup, only two months until go time for this and we've been hearing from a lot of 150 class enthusiasts!
Divisions: All divisions will be offered, remember that you can play in any division for inclusion in the series finale and raffle! (see here for details (http://www.nwdiscgolfnews.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6746) on the Series prizes and basket giveaways!)
Entry: $12 -All divisions (no $10 PDGA non-member fee) – With this low entry, we'll have a couple of really sweet prizes but no placement-based payout.
Discs: Discs must be less than 159.9grams in weight and PDGA approved - other than that, go wild!
Registration/Players Meeting: Registration will run from 8:30-9:30am and we’ll be starting the first round at 10am
Where: At SeaTac, meet up at tournament central by hole 8
Logistics: Two rounds at SeaTac with a lunchbreak. Like the Southside opener in April we’ll again have a couple of interesting alternate pins to mix things up a bit!
As a reminder/plea regarding our Summer series - Keith and I had to each put up $2,000 of our own money to buy back the baskets at SeaTac to keep the course alive. It wasn't a major challenge but it is a lot of cash we've got to recoup so I hope you’ll all come out and support our effort to keep SeaTac one of our premiere area courses!

I've been putting my bag together for this one and played my first all 159.9 class round on Tuesday.
Here's my lineup right now:
Drivers:
150g Star Teebird (ultra-straight just like any ol' Teebird)
158g Champ Glo Leopard (slightly understable control driver)
Specialty:
159g CE Firebird (utility shots galore)
149g R-Pro Xcalibur (Its pretty flippy and I only really use this for 17 and back door turnover on 18 - we'll see if this thing isn't taco'd by tourney time! All it will take is one tree methinks )
Midrange/Putting:
150g dx Birdie (upside-down putting and awesome as a floaty jump putter)
159g dx Zephyr (all sorts of straight/turnover approaches)
Definitely my main weakness is the 150-250' range because neither the Zephyr nor Birdie can handle strong approaches - I still need to find a putter that can handle some snap! My drivers feel totally solid though, I don't think I'm going to change a thing there.

Up to 159.9 grams? I don't have anything that heavy in my bag now!

I'm just waiting for my putter, the rest I have.
This weekend I'm gonna start practicing at the 'Tac with only AO/JO weights in the bag.
Sure hope its not too windy.
My lineup will include;
2 R-Pro Boss's, a 145 hyzer flipper and a 159 stable forehand driver
150 Destroyer
150 11X Eagle L
150 11X Eagle X
155 CE Gazelle
155 VIP Northman
158 XD
139 Beast
150 Star Valk
150 Dx TeeRex
and a rare, old school 150 Scorpion.
This is the only tourney I'm gonna play this year, so if any of you have ever wanted a piece of me, for whatever reason, this is your one chance, bring it.

Tom took my entry money at the store, he knows I'm playing.
Plus, his dad is the 150 class wizard, he snags all the good light discs before I get to them, so he's gonna be more of a threat. :shooting:

May 13th, 2011, 07:03 AM
my 150 set up:
150g Star Sidewinder - newer
150g Star Sidewinder - beat up
147g CE Leopard
The Leopard and new sidewinder are just back ups for when I lose or get pissed at the other disc.
Looking forward to this tourney. Let me know if you want me to bring the Lake Stevens baskets down for this tourney.

Anyone have a 159.9 (or lower ) Banger GT for sale/trade. My bag has been set for a month, but I still need a putter! Don't really want to switch up putters right now!! Help.....anyone?

I will fear no wind now, unless it's mine after too many Arco chili dogs.

I have now played two practice rounds at the 'Tac with a 150 only bag.
I think I got the discs figured out.
Weather looks perfect for Saturday, and the course is in great shape, this should be a great day of golf.

Damn straight captain, weather looks to be awesome for Saturday and because of everyone's hard work on the SeaTac stealth attack weekend, the course is looking amazing!!! :bowing:
Hope everyone has made a few new lightweight friends to add to the bag - I know I need to get in a few more practice rounds this week
All of the details for the tourney remain the same so see the first post for all of the nitty gritty. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Oh yeah, one more thing, I just got these in the mail yesterday. What's behind the post-it note you ask??? A Sudoku challenge of course to be revealed on the day of the tournament - first player to snag a disc (proceeds all go to our basket fundraiser!) and solve the puzzle will win a prize yet to be determined  We'll be holding onto these until the lunchbreak so that everyone will be able to have a fair start.
We have CFR Glow XD's, CFR Champion Katana's, and TFR Star Vulcans:

Not sure why I didn't post this earlier but yes, Keith from Chainbangerz shop will be on hand with his extensive supply of sub 160gram discs
vapor
July 7th, 2011, 05:08 PM
Is there going to be a weigh in prior to the tourny? Four out of five of my sub 160 discs are factory marked at 159. Innova discs often run one or two grams more than marked. I don't want to be stuck at seatac with my 150 aviar.
cefire
July 7th, 2011, 08:56 PM
Yes, there will be scales on site for weighing BUT,
if your discs are marked 159 and they show up as 160, we'll be letting them in, so you'll likely be ok. IF however, your disc is marked 160 or above you better be sure that the actual weight is at or under 159g.

Pick up a teebird, you'll be surprised my friend :)
Also, I'm going to have to brag for a short minute only because when I direct a tournament, I always shoot like crap. Anyway, I shot a 59 today with my 150 bag - brag concluded :)
MEET AT TOURNAMENT CENTRAL (near hole 8) tomorrow - must be registered by 9:30!

Thanks to everyone who came out for a beautiful day at SeaTac - lots of fun getting to play with a whole new (light) bag! Lots of highlights but I think the most interesting was how many people were talking about having their best drive ever on a hole with a 150 class disc
Bjorn cleaned up the CTP prizes by winning both of them second round. Erick Illg grabbed one from the first round as did the Cajun man. Dan Lilley kept shooting hot even after the round by winning Keith's new hole CTP contest.
The Sudoku puzzles are out and people are starting to work on them, I'm predicting someone will email me the solution in a couple of days (its a wicked hard puzzle). Anyone who buys one of these discs and is the first to solve it will win a final run CE TL!!!
If you solve it, just PM, email, or call me and then send a picture of your solution :)
Scores are up - congrats to Dan the Spider Man Lilley for taking home the first Sudoku Showdown title :trophy: http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/64429

Whatever do you mean, of course it works :whistler: :D
BTW - I do have to give three huge shoutouts to Erick Illg, Cajun, and Keith...
Keith and the Chainbangerz Shop for helping me out with a ton of stuff and donating some nice CTP packs
Cajun who kicked in a cool $50 to our basket fund!!!!
and Erick Illg of course who has busted his ass all summer to keep things in shape - Last weekend both days, all day - several trips this week AND this morning he shows up at 8am or so, with a toothache and then decides to go whack some blackberries until start time!!! After which he proceeds to shoot great golf somehow. The man is a wrecking crew of energy and dedication and we all owe him huge thanks for what he does :bowing::bowing::bowing:

Oh, and thanks Andrew, the tourney was alot of fun.
We had a small, but really good group of golfers out for this. The weather was perfect, the course was in nice shape, and the superlight discs were flyin !
This was also the first chance for anyone to test fly the new alt hole between 15 and 16.
I'm gonna try to insure that we can play this tourney again next year, I think it's worth doing again.

Unfortunately SpiderDan sent this this at 8:30 this morning, I just hadn't seen my emails yet for the proof - congrats Dan and shockingly quick (said he solved it last night!):

Sorry about the puzzle captain jack.........i was up to 11:30 racking my brain trying to solve that........it was pretty tough. I actually got stuck about 1/4 of the way through and took a lucky guess on one of the boxes.....7 or 9. Well, i picked 7 and put the 9 somewhere else and then put a 1 here and then a another 7 there and it all worked out.........i was pretty shocked.
I just have to say that was one if not the best event i have ever played. I had a great first round with Sheila and Louis which makes all the difference playing with people that are full of fun. The second round was just as fun playing with Bjorn whom i have played plenty with and our fun history goes back quite a while. Eric it was awesome playing with the individual that spends so much time and effort on such a wonderful course...........thank you so much for all that you do.
Thanks to Andrew and Sheila for another awesome event and Chainbangerz for keeping Seatac on the map and i cant wait til the day there are 27 holes. See you all at the next event!

Sorry about the puzzle captain jack..
Yuh huh, I bet your real sorry about grabbin' that CE TL, you must be reduced to tears.

I had the same problem, I came to point where I had two boxes to fill, one had to be a 3, the other a 9. I tried the wrong way first, got almost all the way through the last two thirds of the puzzle, then crashed and burned.
Near the end I was just hoping and praying that each new box I filled in would work out, I was actually quite surprised when I did complete it.
Still pretty happy with my results considering it was my first time solving one of these puzzles, but if I had a choice for something to do on a long airplane ride, I think I would grab a Maxim magazine instead.
I just have to say that was one if not the best event i have ever played.
Thats the special quality I bring to a tournament, so, your welcome.
