View Full Version : 3rd Annual Aloha Sushi Classic - March 21-22, 2009

February 10th, 2009, 10:43 PM
Registration is now open for the 3rd Annual Aloha Sushi Classic to be held March 21-22 here in Walla Walla. We are once again proud to be the first stop in the Washington State Series and look forward to kicking off another great year of disc golf. As an added bonus for all you advanced players this year's Aloha is the first Am Nationals Qualifier to be offered in Washington State, check out www.amnationals.com for more info. The flyer is available at our website www.fortwallawalladiscgolf.com or you can register online at www.titledisc.com
The format this year is different from last, we will be playing 2 rounds of 29, it would have been only 27 but the extra 2 holes are necessary to tie the course together which will play in a different order from last year to alleviate bottlenecks, plus with only 4 to a tee, play should run nice and smooth. The final 9 will only be for the top 4 open players, which I can guarantee will be both informative and entertaining. All players will receive a player's pack and we will have CTP's, a raffle, and a ring of fire.
With play ending earlier on Saturday more players will have the opportunity to take advantage of the 10% off coupon that will come in your player's packs for our title sponsor Aloha Sushi located in Downtown Walla Walla. A host hotel is in the works and I will post that information as soon as it is available.
We are looking forward to a great event and hope you can come.

Just wandering, that event in 08 was the only time I've been in that area.

We will play the same holes as the FWWO this last October plus 4 temp holes. For those who played last year's Aloha we play the exact same holes minus the short "tunnel type" hole off the path when you cross the bridge.

I are needing email addresses from players who have signed up through TitleDisc so I can send a course map with hole info a week or so before the event. You will also be receiving this information with your player's packs, however if you are planning on playing the course before that Saturday you will want this. Please send to scot@elsomroofing.com
If you have registered through snail mail and your email was included, you're on the list to receive.

The last two years you have played 2 rounds on the Blue and 1 on the Black, each course utilizing the 29-30 different holes we have at our disposal. This year you will be playing all of those same holes in a slightly different order, without stopping. Ok....there will be some stopping, but I am hoping it will be less than in years past and with 4 to a tee, that shouldn't be unreasonable.
I'll let everyone know when I get a map completed and posted on our website, should be by this weekend.

Here's a copy of the Aloha Sushi Classic 2009 map (http://home.comcast.net/~accuspeed/AlohaSushiClassic2009Map.pdf)for all to enjoy! That is fantastic map! Will I be the 100th player to ask: "Why did you choose not to use the hole that tees off from the Dalles Military Road parking lot and shoots uphill along the driveway entrance towards DM Rd? Seems like it would fit well between holes 23 and 24..."

I just KNEW there would be a totally valid reason. That sucks about losing that hole, because it was good and fun! But, we all must share our parks, and Fort Walla Walla Park still has an awesome percentage of its acreage allocated to disc golf. This course ROCKS and I am more stoked than ever to come play it now that this awesome map is released!

Does anybody know of an individual or club who would be willing to loan one of the PDGA dry erase leaderboards and some "Quiet" signs for us to use during our Final 9?
The PDGA won't sell them for some reason. They only give them out to select A tiers and NT's. One would think they would offer them for purchase to all events looking to class things up

LJ Jubner

You would think the series would have purchased them by now. At least the Ore series acquired assets over the years that polished up their events. Why not just a chalk board? Anyway, Hope all goes well even the weather looks OK. God I am glad no Csi last weekend Snow Sat rain/WINDY on Sun.

there is a quick way to invest into some cheaply.. just go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy one of the whiteboard panel boards (it will be near the bathroom stuff) and have them cut down to sizes you want - then attach those to poles or hold them up at the tournament.
(I used to buy some and use it in my classroom as a tool for teaching instead of wasting paper.)

It was great weather today. Mild temperatures with light wind. The round played real smooth, in fact today's round took less time than one round of 22 from last year, the last card came in at 3:15! Nate shot his highest (unofficial) rated round, Feldberg played the most holes he's played in one round of a tourney, and Harbour is looking to cash in his first PDGA event, not to mention my boys are tearing up the advanced field!

I play few tourneys, but I will never miss the Sushi again. The course was in great shape, and the support from staff and players alike, as well as the greater WW community is a credit to your hard work. Hey Jman will get to battle in another tourny this year. It was great to see all that were able to make it.
I would also like to say with a heavy heart that again we lose another sponsor for a great tourny, due to the lack of respect of the rules and expectations of the comfort Inn.
I'm afraid thats why our sport will never get to the next level in the eyes of corporate sponsorship. I know Scott was not very happy sunday morning having to deal with a phone call like that:explode:
I'm not taking the holy'r than thou position. I would really like to see the sport go to the next level, and it's going to take everyone's effort and actions to make this happen.

Room #'s and names are being provided for me. I just have to figure out how to best handle the situation. Some kind of public humiliation does sound tempting. I heard of bragging by said individuals after the final 9 to others about how much they were smelling up the hallway, stuffing towels everywhere to keep the smell in, etc etc. Obviously no remorse on their end so they wouldn't mind everyone knowing they were responsible for costing us a sponsor.
I'm glad to hear you guys enjoyed the event, next year will be even better. I swear someday I will figure out the awards ceremony.....
Lest we forget, the Aloha was an Am Nationals Qualifier. The top 15% of the Advanced Am field will receive automatic invitations. Congratulations to Jesse Garcia, Clyde Murr, Steven McLain, and Eric Lund, nice shooting out there :yay:

I also would like to thank Steve my husband who caddied for me on Sunday, and hung out with the dogs while I played. :bowing: The only thing I can see that would make it a little better for us girls especially is a porta potty somewhere back behind those long field holes. That was a long way to go between potty breaks. I definatly plan on putting this tournament on my calandar for next year.

Maybe those responsible for causing this event to loose a valuable sponsor should not be allowed to participate in future events. :nono:

Oh yeah and I had a blast playing this weekend. This is my second Sushi classic and I have to say I love this event. The course was in great shape, the sushi party on Saturday was a blast and the competition was tough!
Keep it up team!

I did not make the classic but it sounds like it was a great event. That being said I am very very dissapointed in fellow disc golfers not respecting the hotel sponsor. Were they not aware that they got rooms at more than half the normal rate thants to the TD's......Hopefully these people are not the ones who like to sit around and discuss how they would like to see more courses and tournaments, and that we don't get respect......Yet they are the ones leaving us with this sterotype....I not against people abiding but please show some respect. Some action should be made maybe names should be released to all the wa TD's. Maybe they will not be allowed any discounted hotel rates for tournaments. I really hope that its not someone I know and have respect for...but if it is I will show my disappointment. One step forward two steps back....
Glad to hear it was a good show. Hope to make it to the Open in the Fall. In any case next stop the Tri Cities!

Perhaps the hotel can be convinced that this was an isolated incident and they will be willing to offer sponsorship in the future if it can be demonstrated that the offending parties will not be in attendance.
