i wasn't going to do online sign ups, but since there is a demand, i might as well now. i'll be posting some more information concerning this soon.
and as far as shirts go, replace "online sign ups" with "tee shirts" above. :biggrin2:
also, the price has been changed from the original post. i want to make this an affordable and fun event, but still honor those who do well with a nice purse. the EDGC will be there with discs for ams, and if at least 10 pros show up first place should be making at least $70 (and some beer). :chug:

ONLINE registration should be open by tonight or early tomorrow.
for you out of towners, i would just like to say that the grove is looking quite nice. the city is mowing on the reg and Tom Chrestman is adding new pins on the reg as well. the course layout for our tourney will be a mix of both short and long pin placements, with the only ob being the marsh on 4, the fence next to the freeway on 6, the creek on 8, and the bike paths on 9, 10 and 11. :bricks:
both rounds will be played on the same layout and all divisions will be honored if there are 2 or more participants.
one more thing, the LCC disc golf club will be there to help out which will assure that this tourney will be ran efficiently and problem free (if that is indeed possible). They will also be having a raffle that will support their club after the last round and before awards.
hope to see you out there.

There usually pretty fast, most of the time from when someone signs up to email sent to TD is around 24 hours. At least for the tournaments we have used them for. The Whistlin Disc Open is also waiting on them to open our registration. It is several days past when we expected to hear from them.

Dr. Zaius
May 17th, 2011, 05:40 PM
a great question! and to answer, here is the complete layout!
Hole 1 SHORT This is a change to help with flow on the course. perhaps in the future we will have this figured out.
Hole 2 (reg)
Hole 3 (reg)
Hole 4 RIGHT (ob marsh and path, drop zone yes) Another change. The marsh is DEADLY right now, and I'd rather have people yanking their shots right than shorting them left.
Hole 5 SHORT (OB, WATER AND BEYOND!) Change. There IS water in the gully right now, and in and across will be ob. The shot is shorter now, which hopefully means more controlled shots with less ob.
Hole 6 long (OB, WATER AND BEYOND, no drop zone) OB Change. Since there IS water in the gully, we will use it as ob. Remember, your disc must be fully across the water, or fully surrounded/submerged by water to be ob.
Hole 7 (long (new pin position)) **If there is no mow, this will be moved back short**
Hole 8 double long (will be considered a par 4, ob right of creek) **If there is no mow, this will be moved short left**
Hole 9 center short (ob path, drop zone no, re tee with stroke if you never cross the path)
Hole 10 left (ob path, same as above)
Hole 11 short (path and left ob) **no triple mandatory**
Hole 12 short
Hole 13 left
Hole 14 long
Hole 15 left in cove
Hole 16 left (no ob)
Hole 17 reg
Hole 18 long (no ob, this will be considered a par 4, hole 1 is moved short so there will be no conflicting fairways)
The course will play as a par 56 if we get a mow. If not, then hole 8 will be short and it will play as a par 55.
any other questions?

I really think that you have to make the creek on hole 5 OB to prevent the slow down of people trying to play from the far side of the creek... It sucks and there are plans in the works to re-design the hole, but for now I think the OB really effects the play...
I'm also a huge fan of the triple mando... turns a hole that is an easy deuce into a sphincter clincher!
I also think you should rope off the fairway past the road on hole one and make it an island green for that hole and OB for hole 18 to define the fairways better and up the pressure on both of those holes, but that may have to wait for the next tournament.
PS. These are all pretty strong statements... you are running the tournament... you should lay it out how you want! Basically ignore the ramblings of the gangaly guy in the corner...

I completely agree, ignore that gangaly guy.
As far as speed of play on Hole 5, people going over to retrieve a disc takes just as long (more or less) as going over the creek and playing from there.
While I think most leftie/rightie hole discussions are kind of silly, in this case I would bet real dollars that a leftie would never, ever layout a hole like this one. Opening an alternate fairway to the left, raising the ceiling on the existing fairway, making the area across the creek in-bounds, or moving the tee across the creek would all improve this hole.
None of this should be an issue for better golfers. I'm thinking of the Ams and Ints.

Course Update: Spring has sprung at the grove!
A mow is scheduled at the grove sometime this week. How certain we are of this happening we are not sure, and back near 7 and 8 it is HAIRY to say the least. With that that said, changes are made on a few positions (check above) and more will be made if the mow does not happen.
All of these changes are to make for a more enjoyable tournament and to help flow. I hope everyone understands!

All good changes that ought to make the rounds go faster. I personally appreciate playing a course during a tournament in the same configurations I play it the rest of the time. In other words - yay for no rope or triple mando!
Hole 8 in the super long will play faster if the group sends a spotter, and the water is also OB, I believe.

I agree. After playing the course a lot this weekend, I think those are good changes. I'd also like to second Matt's suggestion about spotters.. I'd really recommend spotters on 6 long (if you throw into the creek back there finding a disc can take a while), 8 double long (for the nasty creek and extreme bramble rough), and 12 short (blind shot).
Also, how about switching 11 to the long? Not that I'm advocating for the triple mando (which I don't like either), but even with the path being OB, at ~180ft. that hole in the short is borderline par 2 even at the blue level.

Par 2? How many par 2 birdies have you had on the hole? If the answer is more than 1 than I'll change it. ;)
I like the idea of giving everyone a chance at an ace. And with that said, there is nothing wrong with having a "must get" birdie in the mix. If you know you are going to two it than what's the big deal?

Hi Dr. Zaius,
*laugh* I wasn't really suggesting the hole should be a par 2. ;) I'm still technically at zero aces there.. *another* Buzzz shot blasted through the chains on it this weekend, though. My putting lately has been terrible, though.. so no guarantees on a 2, regardless. :headbang:
The par 2 thing comes from the PDGA guidelines.. at the blue level, a flat-elevation, lightly-wooded hole under 200ft. should be redesigned (rather than being a par 2), as it likely doesn't spread out the scoring distribution enough (by design, the goal is to have fewer than 70% of (Open) players score the same on a hole). Hole 11 short is roughly 185ft., with a slight uphill and a fair amount of OB.. thus kinda borderline. But I also don't think a hole needs to be short to give that "must get" feeling. Hole 1 short, for example.. that's a hole that feels like a "must get" birdie without being so short as to produce little scoring spread.
Meh, I'm rambling.. just ignore me.. Hole 11 short is ok. I'm looking forward to the weekend! :D

A par 2 cannot exist, since par (by definition) always gives you two putts to hole out.

A par 2 cannot exist, since par (by definition) always gives you two putts to hole out.
Well, yes and no.. technically, the PDGA actually tried par 2 holes at the 2001-2002 Worlds, if my source is correct. The eventual verdict was that par 2 holes were not received well, resulting in the guideline that any hole that based on length (rather than intended number of drives before reaching putting range) *should* be a par 2 should instead be redesigned. So there *can* be holes that are too short and easy to be a par 3 for the intended difficulty (i.e. red, white, blue, gold), which in this respect *could* be called par 2.. but really the ultimate answer is no, there's (currently) no such thing as a par 2 hole, there's just poorly designed par 3 holes that fail to produce the desired score distribution, and thus need redesigning. ;)
For reference, you can see from the PDGA par guidelines that par 2 holes (marked in pink) are indeed on there.. with the recommendation to not use them:

Awesome, I'm sure we can get the scorecards or copies to you afterwards. Since there is talk of redsigning some of the holes there I think it's important info to have. In fact, it's good to have these numbers for all courses and layouts.

Nice job on your first sanctioned tourney Wilbur! Couldn't have went much smoother; extra thanks to Ninkasi for that super tasty keg of Radiant and to all those who donated for the epic elevated ring of fire. Shout out to Ryan Yokam...super hot shootin' for your first PDGA tourney!! Representin' 97420! Now about those dang yellow bands................

Awesome, I'm sure we can get the scorecards or copies to you afterwards. Since there is talk of redsigning some of the holes there I think it's important info to have. In fact, it's good to have these numbers for all courses and layouts.
Hey - I forgot to see if you could get the scorecards - did you? If not, Wilbur do you still have them?

Whoa. The smoke is clearing and my head is now deflating.
Thank you to everyone who came out, helped, played, drank, smiled, and made this event seriously amazing. I tried to explain during the morning announcements that tournaments really come down to the hard work and time put in by volunteering, and this was nothing short of a perfect example of that.
I want to shout out a few names:
LCC crew- Cloud Pemble, Warren Hollinshead, Daniel Rodriguez, Dallas Steely, Dan Schmidt, Who'd I forget? Ya'll stepped up and got sh*t done. Thank you. WE RAISED NEARLY $1000!!! What!?
EDGC Crew- Ralph, Gene, Reba, Mike Higgins, Everyone else. Couldn't have done this without you. Literally would have been impossible.
TOM CHRESTMAN- Your course kicks ass and looks BETTER THAN EVER RIGHT NOW! It's PIMPIN'! Thanks for all of your hard work (and congrats on finally cashing on your own course) ;)
There are others! My wife, my friend Julie, Leland Odriscoll (donated his winnings), Yose, Mike Ward, others that donated, spotters, camera people, Ninkasi, disc golf gods...
When it was all said and done:
LCC: Raised nearly $1000
EDGC: Raised over $100 (t-shirts)
1 Keg: done got dranken
Prizes: Plenty of them and all given away
Aces: Devin Cordell hole 10 (He donated the cash)
Ass kickings: Devin Cordell (Set a tourney course record with a 44)
Congrats to all the winners:
Devin Cordell
Suzie Jones
Buck Smith
Mike Ward
Ryan Yokum
Holly Dewitt
Craig Neilson
Bob Gussford
