Why is an AM Only event called an "Open"?

If we're splitting hairs here, then why do they call them "The Giants"?

Because "Bad Monkey Amateur Open" is too hard to say. Open doesn't refer to the divisions available it refers to the fact that it isn't an invitational.
Thanks for asking!

Final 9 for Top 4
All divisions or just the top division like tournaments past? FWIW, I vote for all divisions.

well it is my understanding that using the word "open" in a tournament is refering to the division that is playing. most tournaments also include am divisions, but the tournaments are focused around the Open division.
if there is not Open division, how can a tournament be called an open tournament? and along those lines, you cant say its called open because its open to everybody, because its not open to the Open players.

Where are all the "friends of animals" out there that are up in arms because we are calling this event the bad MONKEY open. For those of you that wondered this event is not only NOT Open for Open players but we will also be discriminating against MONKEYS. Also, BAD players are also prohibited.
Effectively immediately the BAD MONKEY OPEN will now be called the GOOD PEOPLE AM ONLY disc golf tournament.
Oh yeah, I really came here to remind everyone that registration opens on Sunday May 1st at http://bit.ly/GoodPeopleAmOnlyDiscGolfTournament formerly http://www.badmonkeyopen.com

Hey Steve and Ryan,
I'd like some clarification on the rules for hole 2 during the tourney.
Usually it's a mandatory re-tee whenever I play doubles or what not, but was wondering if that complies with the PDGA rules?
Thanks, and I know Firefly will run BMO the correct way.
Wog
June 28th, 2011, 11:51 AM
I'd like some clarification on the rules for hole 2 during the tourney.
PDGA Rules relating to your question:
803.09 (http://www.pdga.com/rules/80309-out-of-bounds)
B. A player whose disc is considered out-of-bounds shall receive one penalty throw. The player may elect to play the next shot from:
(1) The previous lie as evidenced by the marker disc or, if the marker disc has been moved from an approximate lie, as agreed to by the majority of the group or an official; or (2) A lie that is up to one meter away from and perpendicular to the point where the disc last crossed into out-of-bounds, as determined by a majority of the group or an official. This holds true even if the direction takes the lie closer to the hole; or (3) Within the designated Drop Zone, if provided.
These options may be limited by the tournament director as a special condition (see 804.01).
804.01 (http://www.pdga.com/rules/80401-special-conditions)
B. The drop zone may be utilized in special conditions. The director must announce prior to the tournament how it is to be used and if a penalty throw is to be assessed. If no penalty is announced prior to the tournament, none will be assessed for use of the drop zone in special conditions.
So...
We haven't made our final decision on the requirements for this hole yet. We will probably designate a drop zone with will be mandatory for any throw that lands out of bounds on this hole (as we will do on hole 12 also). However, if we chose to make the drop zone at the tee or any place else on the course we could, AND we could choose to assess a penalty stroke for the OB shot or not.
Personally...
I would like to see an option for OB shots on hole two. Players could choose to take their second shot from the tee with NO penalty assessed or they could proceed to a drop zone located closer to the hole with a one stroke penalty. This would allow a player to tin-cup it till their bag is empty, however, for those that feel they might NEVER get a disc onto the green they could proceed to the drop zone after throwing one shot and adding the penalty stroke. However, that might be too confusing for some to handle so we may just go with the drop zone option for all missed shots.
Stay tuned and watch for us to publish the player's guide next week.

Our permit was a NON-EXCLUSIVE Special Use Permit which gave us EXCLUSIVE USE of the disc golf course, the ability to advertise our event, and permission to use the south lot and lock the upper gate.
We also rented the picnic shelter but the trails, picnic tables and other park areas are still open to the public. I can't imagine how much it would cost to get exclusive use of the entire park.
We may want to "reserve" some of the picnic tables closest to the shelter during future events which happens on a first come, first served basis at the park and would be as simple as taping a reserved sign on the tables.

Not necessarily, and I'm not saying that that is the marker either. BUT, if the disc is 4 inches out of the hand, and the foot is 18 inches past the marker.....of course, the hand is moving forward as fast as the disc...and we have to consider the average speed of an African swallow laden with one medium sized coconut....it's all very complicated.
