DGCR Wandering Peacock PDGA C-Tier event - June 4th and 5th
This will be a 2-day, 3 round tournament at Horning's Hideout. We're running it as a Disc Golf Course Review (DGCR) meetup event, but everyone is invited
http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/68548
Cost: $10 - We're playing for fun and for a basket raffle prize explained below
Format: 3 rounds of PDGA singles, players will select either the Meadow Ridge or Canyon midday on Saturday and flip-flop for Sunday. On Saturday night, round 2 will be a GLOW PDGA round on the Highland course. As you can see, there will be plenty of time to hang out, relax, and get the full Horning's experience.
The overall schedule is as follows:
Round 1 - 12-3pm Sat
Round 2 - 9:30-11pm Sat
Round 3 - 10am-1pm Sun
Prizes: Even though we are going very minimal with the entry fee, we'll still have a few nice CTP's and of course the Mini Innova Discatcher to give away to the lucky DGCR reviewer raffle. The raffle will take place one week after the event and we'll randomly draw a participant who played in the tournament and who has written up a review of one of the courses on www.dgcoursereview.com. The winner will receive a really nice Innova Mini Discatcher Basket like this:
http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSdK5ZZq6h0fpf0EY_ZRSpq8IJtajlI1 m0Hp-k37GG_UuEjAKXK3YyBuII
Note that your review can be 'old' if you have already submitted one and that we're just looking for honest reviews, not sugarcoating - any rating/review will make you eligible to win!
"Great so I'm in I want to play but is there camping on site?" Not only is there camping but we got a group camp site and a special deal from Bob Horning (owner of the disc golf course and property) himself! To camp Friday and Saturday and play those days plus Sunday it costs you a grand total of $13! So if you aren't camping then it's the normal charge of $3 per person per day. What a great deal! A big thank you to Bob Horning on that one!
If you have any questions, comments, concerns or want to be assured your spot please send a PM to either myself or 'Sillybizz' :seeya:

In addition to the three sactioned rounds, we'll also be having a fun little ThrowBot tournament!
This might be the first foray of ThrowBot in Oregon so I'll give you the rundown on perhaps the most fun you'll ever have playing disc golf.
ThrowBot doubles is essentially played by an "operator" and a "robot". The robot is given a blindfold and directed to the first teepad, at the teepad they are spun around several times so they don't know where the hole is. The operator then directs them any way they want (talking, physically moving them) on how to throw the next shot AND guides them to safely get to the next lie! If you want a little sample, check out this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjBMxAiASa0
Each player is going to get 2 holes where they play as the operator and 2 holes where they play as the robot (four holes total).
Players will be able start their Throwbot round anytime after the conclusion of the Saturday midday round until dusk and we'll probably have time on Sunday after the rounds are completed as well. It should take around 30 or so minutes per team and you'll be able to decide when/if you want to play.
The cost will be included in with the $10 entry fee for the whole shebang and I'll be making some sweet trophies for the winning team!

I can say from experience that Throwbot is fun and challenging and gives you a chance to laugh at yourself, your partner and the other players, it's an all around good time!
If you are curious as to which other Disc Golf Course Review members (screen names) are playing you can click on this link (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33231) to the announcement on DGCR and in the first post it lists who is confirmed to be attending so far. Take care everyone and see you at HH! :yay:

Oh Snap! I'm so down for this event, low price, sweet course, and it helps raise awareness of the best national disc golf online resource (IMO). I've been watching you ascend up the DGCR rankings cefire and I'm excited to see you claim the next diamond status, I need to get back on the writing horse and finally get that gold medal.

I'm very tempted, however I'm already also in for a long drive + camping for the BSF later that month. I'm seeing if a few of the usual crew want to go (and are willing to drive), but does anyone happen to be driving up through the Eugene area for this? It'd be way more tempting if I could hitch a ride for it. ;)

Yup, sorry about that - Bob only had a couple of dates available to host a tourney on so we had to grab one of them!
Everyone is more than welcome to join up to play the Saturday Glow round and then play on Sunday as well - remember that this isn't really a 'competition' and you don't win prizes for shooting good, only in the mini basket raffle. You'd still get your money's worth ($10) with the Glow and Sunday rounds which you would still receive ratings for, etc. (and you'd get to pick which course you want to play on Sunday!).

May 24th, 2011, 11:36 PM
None of the rounds are required, play as many or as few as you would like! Just $10 and you'll still have an equal chance to win the mini basket giveaway, so help out the Chick Flick by playing their fundraiser dubs (http://www.nwdiscgolfnews.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6941) on Saturday and then head over for Sat night and Sunday rounds at Hornings :)
Glow sticks are legal for this event and PDGA approved - we will have some of the LED sticks and CFR Glow drivers available (although you'll probably only need a putter for the course we're playing :) )

Huh? How does that work for a PDGA sanctioned round?
Can I just play 0 rounds and win by default?
Tim
May 25th, 2011, 08:42 AM
I don't think there will be any winners, at least not based on score. You'll just get to have any rounds count towards your rating, and maybe win some CTPs and such along the way.

Would the glo round go toward your normal rating or would it be its own category like superclass?

May 25th, 2011, 10:30 AM
It sounds to me that you guys might want to reclassify this tourney as an XC-Tier with the PDGA since you aren't following PDGA Tour Standards (http://www.pdga.com/files/documents/TourStandards.pdf). I'm not saying its a bad thing at all. I like what you're trying to do here, but ratings and finishing positions etc will be hard to get correct with what you're planning.
Best of luck with your event. Sounds fun!

That sounds like a good idea - ratings should be no problem though (just different flights on each course) and finishing positions will be the same as usual (just no prizes for order of finish and probably a lot of 999's due to people just playing on either Sat or Sun), just one big division instead of lots of little ones.
I'll call PDGA if we should sanction differently, although I'm not exactly sure what the overall functional differences are for the players???

So, what does the $10 go to? Will these be PDGA "rated" Rounds? And why do the raffle a week after the event?
cefire
June 2nd, 2011, 09:15 PM
$10 goes to:
$4 to PDGA (sanctioning/insurance)
$1 to Throwbot trophies (yes, they are cheap, but fun :) )
$1 to Innova mini basket raffle prize
$4 to Charity Endowment (mandatory for CEP events - will go to our 501c3, "Discovering Open Spaces" and then to help us keep SeaTac baskets in the ground!)
All rounds that have at least 5 peeps with PDGA status will be rated (including glow) and the raffle is after the event because you must write a DGCR review of one of the Hornings courses (we don't care if you give it a 0 or a perfect 5) by Friday, June 10th to be eligible to win - this is a DGCR meet after all!!!

Bailed...no, we were told your group packed up and headed out by several others who played the Canyon course on Sunday - I was way confused about what happened and when no one showed up, I didn't have any #'s to call someone in the group to see why a whole group disappeared, but you all must have still been playing.

I just wanted to thank you guys for running a very fun tournament. I appreciate the guts to go out and throw a very non-traditional event with a very entertaining format. I wish the turn-out from the Portland crowd could have been a little stronger, shout-out to DGOD for keeping the camping scene fun and lively and bringing out a big portion of the overall turn-out, as well as to Dan and Dan for a pair of fun if occasionally frustrating rounds. I look forward to playing any events of yours in the future Andrew, it was certainly a hoot getting to meet the stars of DGCR behind the avatars. I hope the event spurs on some more interest and well-written reviews.

I found a CTP out there today. It was on hole 18 of the Meadow Ridge...Shain "the Chain" was on the bottom of it, I think...

OK, preliminary results are posted but please remember these are only preliminary and will probably change a bit when I enter Dan's scorecard. I will update ASAP when I get it in. The order of scoring is Meadow Ridge, Glow round on Highlands, then Canyon. Both days featured great sunny weather with a little bit of wind that was kind of on/off both days.
As you can see, Shane Johnson was shooting some great golf this weekend and really left the rest of the pack in the dust :bowing: He also picked up some CTPs along with Dan Brown, Thomas TD, Randy King, Dan Brown Jr., and the other Thomas.
Terry and Jeni Shuler took home the Throwbot title and trophies :trophy: after posting a really solid 13 on Canyon holes #1, #2, and #18 - I was happy to see how excited folks were about Throwbot. The Throwbot bug is spreading and it sounds like a few Portlander's might be hosting their own sometime soon!
Remember to post those reviews by Friday at noon - I will be posting a list of randomly selected golfers and the first one on the list that has written a DGCR review of one of the Horning's courses will win the Innova Mini Basket!

Why the edit? It sounds a little different now.
Who told you we left? "several others"? We were all camped in the same spot...
We waited by canyon hole 18(where you were taking score cards the day before) for about an hour after our round. No one showed so we went back to camp to grab a beer for me and Vince, and a sandwich for the boy. Tom and Ben came to camp to get us and when we got back you were gone. I was told... that people told you... we were still there. The Winner of the tournament said you guys just dissappered.
There were no instructions given at the "players meeting" on where to turn in score cards, or that you guys had to leave after your round. You were there when Tom left to get us, and gone when we got back. Nobody i talked to even knew what happend to you guys.
That being said, its no big deal, Miscommunication. I had a great time out there and really appriciate you making it right.
But i would like to know who told you we left?
