There is an intermediate player with a 938 rating? Sounds like a case of severe sand bagging to me... Is there anyway for a Tournament Director to force a player to play in a division more suited to them? Obviously this person should be stepping up to advanced. Considering that he'd have one of the higher ratings in that division...

935 is cut off for intermediate...but the wss will allow someone that has started in intermediate even if there rating takes them out of that division

Is there a way to determine if the player rating started below 935 this year and has moved up due to a ratings update?

April 16th, 2011, 10:32 AM
Not sure who you are talking about because the highest rated player in that division is 933. I looked at his profile and there are only five rated rounds under his belt. He could probably play advanced but he would have a better chance of winning in intermediate.

Yeah, his is the perfect example of a "bubble" player. It looks like he's been playing AM1 since 2008, but he hasn't won one yet, despite some very strong performances (like a 969 round at last years BSF). I'd be playing AM2 if I were him though, at least until I had a few wins under my belt. He's definitely the guy to beat as of right now; experienced, with a track record of performing well in some very competitive fields.

So the question is is it more important to win or play at your skill level?

I wish I had put a few more competitive wins under my belt before making the jump to open. I would think the confidence that comes with winning in your division can be carried over when you step up divisions.

I went out and took in 4 mound yesterday with Gordy. Man is that place looking sweet. Still some water hazards here and there, Green everywhere with waxy looking yellow flowers and elegant purple flowers growing all over the place.

I looked at a few of the changes Gordy has planned for the Jumanji Course and really liked what he is proposing.

The Intermediate and other divisions that will be playing on the Porcupine 13 will be getting a whole new challenge this year. They will play part of the Pro Final 10 course.

WE have a two-year old hanging around the Mound. Jaymie and our boys followed him from Hawk 18 down to the 17th tee of Cape Tear and over to the 'Avenue of the Giants' tee. We got a great pic of Mr. Moose standing on the tee. If we had audio you could hear him say, 'Let's tee off!' I will try to get my boys to post some of the pics here.
The next day, yesterday, I was re-working the OB line for Porky 18 and was running a new set of stakes up the southeast side of the fairway towards the tee when I looked up and there's Mr. Moose again standing right behind the tee munching on the fresh syringia blossoms. I was on the little roadway in front of the tee about 50' from the 7' BEAST. I whistled and hailed the moose by name....'Mr. Moose, Mr. Moose.... and so forth. Since I was by myself I thought it best to get back to my work, heading in the opposite direction. The moose, left to his own resources, just munched away right there until it was time for me to go. Altogether a very good two days at the Mound.:chug:

I can't wait for this year's Lilac City Open. It's been on my list of WA events to play for a long time. Great job making it into an A-tier and attracting some elite competition.

Are there any locals willing to put me up for the weekend? I'm going to be coming up on Thursday with Tim Skellenger. He's going to be getting a hotel with his girlfriend and I'm looking to crash with a local... Thanks!!

If you're the hearty type you can camp at 4-mound for cheap ($7 or 8 bucks for the weekend with free fire wood). You could probably catch a lift into town for the Sat. events with others if you don't have a vehicle. There will be food (for a price) available Sunday afternoon. Wherever you land, we can't wait to see you.

I've been wondering about this since I signed up. How does the meal deal thing work out? I mean I paid for the two meals that were being offered but how is that being tracked. Does everybody who signed up for the meal get a ticket? Or is it something like the names of those who paid are on a list and the cook will have to check them off as they come through? Just curious.

Also, what are the discs for the Lilac City Open this year? Hopefully not another Vulcan or something flippy as such.

Aaron Baker came out yesterday and single-handedly trimmed almost all the tees and greens on both the Porky '13' and Jumanji. My field mower and I are rekindling a relationship that ended last fall and have managed to pilot a fairway through most of the holes. There's more to do. Some fairways will be left 'long' because they won't support my equipment. If anyone wants to do some hand-held work on 'Final 10' #2 and #9 that would give me a big boost.
There will be all the fresh cold good water we need. The fire wood is split and the camping areas are mowed. Bring repellent.
Practice rounds Through Friday will be available @ $5 per car so carpool . Visitors will also be welcome at $5 per car, especially on Sunday.
Thanks to all who have helped along the way and all those who are volunteering for the weekend. :chug::chug:

I had a blast yesterday with Scott W. Your guy's hospitality is always tremendous.

Just a heads up for all the players that are playing this year. The mosquito's are out in abundance. Downriver and Highbridge aren't that bad. Four Mounds is terrible. Standing water in the swampy sections means you are going to get eaten alive. Bring bug spray. Deer ticks are also in abundance. Had four on me yesterday when I went home. Long hair should be in a hat to keep the free riding parasites at bay.

See everyone Saturday!

Glad to be making it back to the Lilac City Open! Site of my first Open cash ever, back in 2006. Four Mounds always has a special place in my heart! Can't wait to mix it up with the stacked player field that'll be making the trip. Way to go to all those who've stepped up and made this an A-Tier event...I sure know how much work is entailed!

I'll have SPECIAL EDITION Big Sky "Zoo Town" Summer Honey, with a just-for-the-tournament label, available at the LCO by overwhelming popular demand. $5 for one (highly collectible!) or $10 for a six-pack. All proceeds to the Zoo Town Open.

how come it seems like everytime i have to register online for a tourney the fee seems to go up? literally every time this year it's happened. how has it gotten so high? why does it have to be that way? am i the only one who thinks this is outrageous??

it can't simply be the credit card company raising their prices. Because i'm only using one credit card and getting charged $11 to register two players. I'm not even a person who is affraid to spend money, i just don't like being taken.

The net pro entry for the Lco currently stands at $3000 mol. This is the gross fee minus the INWS Standard deductions (Series fee, $4 + PDGA player fee,$4+ Host Fee,$2+ trophy fee,$1 =$11). Our added cash to this Super Tour purse is currently just north of $2600 which means the overall pro purse in the aggregate exceeds $5600. If a dozen more pros signed up this week that would put the aggregate purse north of $6600. We are pleased to be hosting the toughest field ever here in Spokane(we've had some pretty severe competition in the past) and are proud to present to all comers our largest purse ever.

The Acepot from The DRO has rolled forward to the LCO. That acepot combined with the ace money collected so far for the LCO is in excess of $430. If no one aces at the LCO the pot will roll forward to the Country Cup at 4-mound in July. If uncollected then, it will continue to roll forward throughout the INWS, ultimately to be paid out at the INWS Finals at Farragut in October.:trophy:

Need to rethink hole 6 at Downriver.. The new hole is bad at best. Marking an ob line between 6 and 9 would take care of the small issue that has never been one in the last 10 years at Downriver. An ob line would make hole 9 tough again like it used to be when we didn't have boss's wraiths and destroyers that make that hole so easy to par. The new hole is an atrocity. I feel sorry for anyone that ends up on the hill right or can't throw over 280 feet through the non fairway. O.B. on the left of hole 6 would also punish a lefty similar to how righty drives get punished on the mysterious OB hole 2.

I played the LCO layout for Hole six on Saturday and was very surprised. I thought it was great. I was expecting it to be horrindous from the comments from a few peeps here. It's a creative use of terrain and solves a big problem.

Keep in mind I'm a 814 rated player who drives in the mid 200's...

I kept my eye on where I usually see (better players') drives land for hole 9 and I didn't see a conflict. Maybe I'm missing something....

I enjoyed the hole and look forward to playing it in the LCO.

I played the new layout of six a few times now and it's about 50/50. I have parked it with my Wasp and I have failed to park it with the same Wasp. Seems more like a Merry Christmas/chance type shot. I think it will be a nice break in the layout to have a hole that doesn't require arm power more than it requires technique and luck. Much like hole 4 to me at Downriver.

As a lefty, I can attest to the fact that we lefties get punished enough when it comes to course layouts (especially OB markers and tees). With that said, I am very cognizant of the fact that the courses in Spokane are set up quite well for a predominately LHBH dg'er. Wish I could make the tourney!

Wow that is a perfectly thrown together A-tier hole there. I hope the safety factor outweighs the suck factor. Not a big fan of that move. I will play it like I'm playing night golf just throw and hope I don't hit trees in the wide open rhbh hyzer route only shot. I can guarantee more people are in danger from 9's tee now than ever before, lets wait and see. Just my 2 cents worth on the new tee, I have a bunch of change left but that hole only deserves 2 cents now.

More specifically speaking to narrow fairways that don't allow a big arm thrower to bomb towards the hole in any direction.

As far as Spokane courses being "lefty friendly"...I'd say I'm happy I have a new anhyzer disc again...but my left handed friends who throw still complain about all the "righty friendly" holes.

I personally like the variety and tire of the 400ft RHBH hyzer fade layouts of many of the NW courses.

I love, and have a personal attachment to all the courses in the area... but that's just me. I like to think Gordy designs course for his lefty wife, Jaymie, but I can't seem to find a serious bias in either direction, for any of the courses locally. They all seem pretty fair. But I just love playing golf, righty or lefty-wannabee. I'd sure like another 40' on my lefty-wannabee though. (sidearm, in case you didn't get my clever analogy).

Thanks to all the hard workers who made this event possible, it was great and I can only imagine what a headache running an A-Tier must be. Even though I laid a fantastically stinky egg on Jumanji, I still managed to have fun despite one of my lowest rated rounds in recent memory. I even like most of the changes at Downriver, actually I kinda liked them all once I heard some of the explanation behind them. Thanks for another great LCO. I hope to try to get some revenge at Four Mound at the Country Cup but am not sure if I can make it.

Once again, so glad I came out to Spokane to play the Lilac Open! Bob, Jamie & Gordy (& the rest of the LCO crew) had the courses in great shape and things ran really smoothly. I didn't feel like I played very well (arrrrg!!) but cashed none the less and the pro payouts were impressive for sure. Since I played in the final 10 I wasn't able to do nearly as much photography as I usually do but I did take PICTURES (http://www.flickr.com/photos/edgepix/sets/72157626730874081/detail/) of my group during the finals and caught the lead card toward the end of their round as well.

I still haven't seen a rattlesnake at four mound, hope to someday. Did see a wild Turkey flying down from the top of one of the mounds while we were milling about up there. The pygmy nuthatches (http://www.flickr.com/photos/terryandchristine/3656383420/) are still nesting in the dead tree by Jumanji's hole 25 teepad too. Beautiful weather all weekend made the tourney a real pleasure to play.

Cheers, Eric

thanks for the pictures, ERic. You got some great ones.

Thanks to all who helped out and made this event possible! And thanks for the upcoming video, that is awesome and much appreciated. I know I'm not technically a local, but given that my first PDGA event, first PDGA open event, first PDGA cash, and first PDGA A-Tier win all came at Four Mound, I think I half-count. Plus I'm on Team Stimp :)

Courses were much improved since I'd seen 'em last. Nice shootin' to all. Thanks again for the great weekend, I'll be back!

P.S. We filmed the final 10 of the lead card with a high def camera. Editing will start very soon and it will be up for the viewing pleasure of all.

Of all the times I've hoped someone would do this for us you're the one to finally come through. I can't wait to see how it ends.

I'd say more local than some of our locals. You are well loved in Spokane, I sure treat you like a local! By the by, that Summer Honey was delicious. Sucks I can't play Zoo Town but it's awesome that one of my favorite libations supports Zoo Town. Next time, bring more beer :yay:

Yeah, well, I can tell you that I was trying to get three camera's all filming. I couldn't get a hold of the other two people that were going to film. Pretty much was trying to make a professional, dvd quality video of Spokane disc golf in full swing. Best part being we just let the camera roll the whole time so we got a lot of off color stuff that, of course, will not be making the final presentation.

The Country Cup will be filmed with at least three high def camera's. Hopefully by then I have enough money to get each of my friends a couple of extra battery packs so we can film all the rounds and the finals!

By the way Gordy, it ends with a putt. Much like all tournaments. Thought you would of known that :nahnah:

Yeah I am currently buying another video card as trying to convert it from my hi def camera to my old computer keeps crashing the thing. It does look great however, especially some of the tee shots off the top of the rock and you playing from the water on the second to last hole.

The most impressive things on that video are as follows. The 18 year old from B'ham throwing that crazy side arm hyzer that planted 30 feet from the basket. Feldbergs diving putt through the tree's to save par. And of course, your birdie on the last hole to seal the deal.

Didn't get to go to country cup however as I was stuck working so no Hi Def video there. We are planning on doing it all over again at the Farragut Open where I will make sure to have at least two camera's running on all shots. Hopefully I can get three or more and cover all angles on all the shots. I'll keep you posted Christian

Any chance you could make it to the Global Event?!? August 20th, High Bridge DGC
I would be happy to run a camera or find others who will help.

I believe that I am going to be playing at the Global so I would say yes, I will make it to the event. My buddy Casey is actually the one who ran the camera the last time. I have a few friends with some really nice hi def camera's so the more the merrier.

Schrack, are you going to be at the Vader Challenge? If so we will figure out a game plan there.

Peace
Stuart
