The classic has returned to Walla Walla in 2011.
Online registration will be available atnorthwestsignup.com (http://store.northwestsignup.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=23&zenid=cc9fbd60c01ad951196b810bec9ec0ba)
We will be the second stop of the 2011 Washington State Series.
Thanks to the city of Walla Walla for letting us add enough holes so that we will be able to accommodate 144 players for this event.
It is Whitman Alumni weekend which has a tendency to pack hotels.
I would suggest that everyone use the "PDGA" sponsored hotels for their rates are much better than what I was just offered.
Super 8 (60something a night 2 queen)is about 8 mins from the course and is right on the highway near quickie marts, fast food, and a grocery store.
Follow this to get the codes you need to have CLICK ME (http://www.pdga.com/members/benefits?)
I am working on a camping location as well, but it is going a little slower.
Tent and/or RV camping CLICK ME (http://www.bluevalleyrv.com/information.html) I am waiting on answers to see if we can get a better rate, but I will advise against holding ones breath.
It's a little further of a drive (15-20miles from course) but Harris Park CLICK ME (http://www.co.umatilla.or.us/harris_park.htm) Not sure how or if you can reserve the sites.
Of course thanks for the interest in the Aloha Sushi Classic.

So what layouts are we using? Black/Blue/Black?

So what layouts are we using? Black/Blue/Black?
We will be using black and the other course will use the blue course on the east side of the park (1,2,14-18) and 11 temp holes utilizing the rest of Fort Walla Walla Park.
The exact which division playing which course etc will be determined later. I expect open will play black, hybrid, black and intermediate/jrs will play hybrid, black, hybrid. The advanced divisions are up in the air at this time but I assume they will mirror the open players.
Obviously this may change based on turn out to each division for I am pretty rigid about having no five-somes.
I guess i cannot answer your question completely at this time :)

Judging from previous experiences with Kris, I believe that the second round will start 1 hour (or there about) after the last card from first round is turned in.

Is anyone from Spokane going? And if they are, do they have room for a tagalong with gas and beer money (for after the rounds). I'm trying to get down there, but alas, getting a camping spot and a ride are troublesome for me at this moment.

I just wondered as last time (2009) it was 2 rounds of 27=3 rounds of 18. The 27 a day was a great format. Well, we'll see...

I just ran out of room on the flier to make it look good. I figured most would know that there would be a round after lunch.
I typically give 50-80 mins after the last card is turned in for "lunch". I will post the start time at Tourny Central etc.
Thanks for mentioning this for it had slipped my mind to mention it myself.

We have longed for permission from the city to use another part of the park and they have granted it to us this year.
This allows us to throw up the black course and then use a modified blue course (holes 1, 2, 14-18) and 11 temp holes. Seven of which have never been used in play.
Two 18s also allow us to up our numbers to 144 which is a good thing :)

If they wish to go into detail that is their choice. I will just leave it as in 2009 there were issues with behavior off the course.
We are suppose to wear clothes playing disc golf?

Well, at least according to the sanctioning body that made the rule book we all argue about constantly. I saw that it mentioned shirts. What if i decided to wear a mesh shirt and 70's style cut off jean shorts:whistler:? I would be full clothed. Might have a buddy pop out the side of the shorts on straddle putts though.

Mild avg lows around 44 and highs around 70. Spring weather can be iffy, however; it is typically nice that close to may. It's one of the reasons we moved ASC to later in the spring.
Its nice enough that they plan a hot air Balloon Stampede the weekend of Mother's day (the following weekend after ASC) and there is a large outdoor dog show as well the same weekend as ASC.
With that being said I would plan on rain and wind :)

A few things I would like to broadcast.
We will have a food vendor on site for the ASC. Our neighbor in the park, Walla Walla Valley BMX, will be selling dogs, burgers, pepsi products, etc. They graciously are holding zero races that weekend so that they would not be a distraction to us and us a danger to them.
Due to them being great neighbors ALL money they get from this goes right back to their track/club. Please help them out and buy a burger or two.
Those in town Friday night the "Red Monkey Lounge" has offered free cover to those that would be interested that are playing in the tournament. (contact me and i will get you the coupon you need)
No discount but Saturday night they will be having the UFC PPV fight on their bazillion hd sets with special guest Ken Shamrock (i bet his nose looks worse in person). The cover is $15 for the fights.
Their brother company the "Stone Hut Bar and Grill" will be offering $5 burger and beer for the weekend as well.
Saturday night we will be having the "player's party" i guess is what you would call it at the "Aloha Sushi". They will be providing all of us with 20% off coupons. What better way to say "thank you" then to show up and say it in person.

Ok I'm looking for a little help with transportation for this tournament. I need to be in San Francisco Monday morning where I will stay for a week. So I need to fly straight there from Walla Walla, I'd rather fly back to Portland or Seatac after my week long training so I can't leave my car in Walla Walla.
Here is what I need.
A ride to Walla Walla from the Shelton, Olympia area (I could even maybe make it up to Bremerton or maybe Portland I have some flexibility)
A ride to the Walla Walla Airport (6 miles from Fort Walla Walla) during lunch on Sunday.
In trade I offer up one of the Queen beds in my reserved hotel room for Friday and Sat. night. I don't care If three people sleep in the bed either as long as I have my bed.

You are welcome...I just run it the way I would want a tournament I played in ran. :)
The course(s) are going to look good. The city did some mowing (a surprise to me) and for the first time we are having a sanctioned tournament late enough in spring for the trees to be green instead of brown.

I will be less available this weekend for updates, questions, etc. I will be at the WRO. I will have fliers/registrations for ASC with me and I will have some CFR's ($20) available as well. The CFRs are Champ Katanas and Glow Champ Destroyers. I will have 3-4 Worlds CFRs as well ($20)
They are Champ Vulcans and glow champ Katanas).
I will also have some Washington State Series discs as well (5 champ teebirds + and 5 echo Katanas
100% of this money (after costs) go right back into ASC for payouts.

The temp holes will be up Friday the 29th. As much as I would like to have the temp courses up before then the fact that the city would never allow it and just how quickly a basket could be removed prevents this.

It will appear that we will attempt to do some doubles at 5pm on Friday for those arriving into town early enough to play some.
I don't think I will do any check ins at that time; however, i will take registrations and $$$.
We will meet on the dalles military road entrance of the park (blue 1) for doubles since this is the easiest spot for access to both courses.
NOTE: Tournament central will be at the covered shelter Saturday and Sunday. For those that have never been here before that would be the Myra Road entrance. Follow the road until you find the parking lot.

Updated the PDGA (http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/65220) again...and again and again :)
Both courses will be up for play Friday. Find me friday if you want a pass for free cover at Red Monkey(friday night only). I will have 50 of them...well maybe 49
Thank you to all the ladies who have stepped up and registered. Looking at the records quickly it would appear this is the largest women's field in FWW tournament (sanctioned) history. :trophy:
Basket Toss: We will have a WSS basket toss during the break between rounds on Saturday. The 10 closest participants will be qualified to the CTP finals at Whiners in the Woods. Mando's has donated a Mach V basket to the winner of the CTP at Whiners. All money raised goes to the WSS
Cost: $1 a throw or 6 for $5
Raffles:
We will have the usual item raffle for $1 a ticket or 6 for $5 (dont tell Washington State Gaming). Money raised, on Saturday, from this raffle will go towards the tournament payouts. Sundays raffle $ will go to the permanent tee sign fund.
Final 9 Alt shot Doubles Skins Raffle:
$5 a ticket and you get your shot at being teamed up with one of the top four finishing MPO's in at least 9 holes of alternate shot doubles. MPO's will tee from ALL odd holes and the winners will be teeing from all even numbered holes during the final 9 regardless of who threw last on the previous hole.
MPO's are prohibited from winning this raffle! ALL other divisions are eligible and you can only win once.
The money raised from these sales will be used to fund the skins payout. ALL tickets not drawn will be added to the normal raffle, so please save your tickets.
At the FWWO (October) we experimented with this format. It was a very exciting 11 holes of action that was neck and neck.

I should have their menu up tonight so you have an idea of what they will be serving onsite. Remember ALL funds from their vending goes right back to their club (which help kids stay active).
FWWDGC is not charging them to be our vendor at this event.

dangit, tim, you beat me to it!!!
that was easily the finest round of golf i have ever witnessed in my life... i don't care who you are or what gender you happen to be or what division you play in... her drives, besides being enormous, were incredibly accurate... i don't actually know if jessie westphal is a good putter or not 'cause she pretty much never had to do it... if she didn't park her drive, she parked her upshot... it was stunning and a pleasure to get to be a part of...
... something else i think important to mention is what a class act she is... she was beyond fun to be around, an incredibly good sport, entirely proffesional and genuinely supportive of everyone on the card...
most fun i have ever had in a tournament round. ever. thank you jessie, sheila and jenny... you gals are something else again.

Great tournament. I could repeat many of the other players' accolades, but I'll just focus on a few of my strongest impressions: HUGE payout, awesome title sponsor, and I'm a big fan of the final 9 skins & accompanying raffle format. I hope this becomes more prevalent. Thanks, Kris!
Another highlight of my weekend was when I had the good fortune of sitting next to Walla Walla country commissioner Perry Dozier and his wife (Darlene?) at Aloha Sushi on saturday night, and siezed the opportunity to introduce them to our sport. They are recovering ball golfers, so it was a pretty easy pitch. :wink2: We hit it off quickly (their oldest son is also named Kyle and has also spent considerable time in Germany) and made genuinely nice small-talk for a solid half hour, covering topics like parenthood, international travel, local politics, the education system, and of course some of the finer points of the disc golf community - both casual and professional. I talked up the sport, Walla Walla's club, their crown jewel of a tournament, the title sponsor, and the positive impact of dg courses in public parks.
I enjoyed talking to the commissioner, and I think it's safe to say that Disc Golf made a good first impression. Here's hoping one of our local politicians might head out to FWW Park and catch the bug.

I finally made some time to edit and post some pictures (http://www.flickr.com/photos/edgepix/sets/72157626743628686/detail/) from the ASC on my flickr page. Just click the thumbnail if you want to see a bigger version of a particular pic.
