Hey Everyone,
It's that time of year again where I start getting geared up to run AFD, hard to believe it has already been 5 years. New this year is the split weekend, every year I have had to turn teams away because the event has filled. I am not good at it, and I hate doing it. I've added ghost groups, extra holes, all to avoid telling excited golfers no. This year running the Am event Saturday and the Pros Sunday I hope we will have enough room for everybody.

Ams Saturday: Adv., Adv. Masters, Mixed, Int., Rec.

Pros Sunday: Open, Masters

44 team (88 player) capacity per day.

22 holes (11 tough shot, 11 alternate shot, 22 best shot)

Lunch Provided

All the quirky rules you know and love, plus some secret new additions!

$2 Ace pot per team, aces paid out to teams not individuals.

Players Packs for Am teams, 1 Disc per player.

As always, pre-registration only. In person, by mail, or online at www.northwestsignup.com

If you've never played AFD ask some of the more seasoned players in your area about it and I am sure they will tell you what a good time they have had. Start thinking up your team names and get your partners out to practice!!

Flyer will be sent to TreeLove for posting to nwdiscgolfnews calendar.

Post any questions here!

I would assume the same, but wanted to hear it straight from the source instead of assuming.

Alas, we can' make it. We have plans on that Sunday. We're free on Saturday, but Matthew only plays Pro now. :biggrin2:

Excellent, AFD is a blast. The mixed division has been pretty popular the last few years, and I bet this event will even draw Ashley out of hibernation.

It was a sweet set up last year, wish I could come this year. Same date as Whistler's SOWS.

Adair is the venue, cost is between $40 and $80 per team depending on your division, the flyer has all the specifics. I don't like the idea of competing against Whistlers SOWS, might need to shift the weekend. I'll keep everybody posted!

Nate,
I appreciate your concern, thanks.
FWIW, I did anticipate your event while conjuring up the SOWS schedule.
I guess I thought that it would be closer to April 1st.
You're probably aware that our pro and am days are the opposite of yours.
I'm thinking we can make it work if need be, but I think they will pull from each other and some folks will be torn.
The price we pay for this great sport getting so darn big eh?
Honestly I'm hoping to see you and a bunch more pros at the SOWS WB gig.
Thanks again man.
Yose

I spoke with Dion earlier and he informed me that the SOWS pro and am days are opposite ours as you said Yose. Knowing that I think everything will be fine. Maybe we can work together to come up with a little something extra for any brave soul who plays both events. We would do April 2-3 but Dion is going on tour full time this season and I think he needs to be in Texas that weekend. It isnt too far from Roseburg to Corvallis, looks like it will be a great weekend of golf with two of Oregon's better courses on display!

Anyone know the appropriate email to get the Flyer to Mr. TreeLove Stern?

Thanks!

Hey Everybody,
April Fools Doubles registration is now live at www.northwestsignup.com

Our flyer has been uploaded to TreeLove's calendar for those who would prefer to register in person or by mail. We are offering half price entry to any Am team that decides to play the pro event the following day, a great chance to test the waters and perhaps play some tougher course layouts.

Anyone have teams or team names figured out yet? Post teams, questions, and trash talk here if you'd like!

We haven't decided on a name yet, but the unholy alliance of Hagerty/Benotsch will be challenging all MPM teams for the title, as well as to a "Pants-Off Dance Off" after the second round.

Hello Nate, I am Open masters from Mcminnville. My 12 yr old boy has been playing for a while and we were looking for a byop doubles tourney. We want to play, what division should we sign up for? I hang in the 1000's he has parred the woods at Adair a few times. Rick Manley

It is impossible for me to tell without seeing you play but I would guess Advanced would be about right. Technically a pro shouldn't be able to play in this division but with a 12 year old I might make an exception.

I'm pretty sure Mixed refers to gender, not divisions. So two genders, one division. If you are both Am's you play the Am day and vice versa. If you have a Pro, you probably have to play the Pro day.

that's what i assumed, however when i went to sign up the only mixed option was... well, now i forget exactly what, but something like "mixed amateur"...

... however, now i feel silly and i'm going to go look again...

... mostly i just want to know what day i'll be playing...

p.s. it says "Amateur Mixed" no pro mixed option... phew. now i don't feel silly anymore...

Que sonido hace un pato muerto porque gatos comen patos.

I think if a housecat tried to take down a wild duck the cat would get slapped six ways from Sunday.

And lately, we haven't seen any wildcats, cardinals, cougars, huskies, bruins, or beavers 'que pueden comer patos!' Not likely to change in the near future either.

Hello Nat, this is the guy from mcminnville w/ 12yr old. advanced team. I want a spot but I believe I put 10.00$ less than entree on my card, what is the price 43.75 or 60.00. I will get this to you on sat. the 12th.later, Rick Manley

I have a 12 year old boy that plays with me occasionally. It would be fun to meet up and play doubles together. I already have a partner for April Fools dubs, but a casual round could be a blast.

Advanced is $60 + $2 if you want into the acepot. I realized there was no option for ace pot online so for those of you who registered online bring $2 if you would like to be in the acepot. Aces will be paid out to teams not individuals so if your partner aces you ace!!

Day of is fine for the Pro day only, just bring exact change ($82 with acepot for Open) to make it easy on us.

I sent our reg in last week. Not sure why it would take this long since Corvallis is like 5 miles across.

There will be at least 4 MPM teams!

Hey Everybody,
We got 3 more amateur teams in yesterday! All hope is not lost, I think this event can still fill! We now have 7 or 8 openings left. Advanced, Advanced Masters, Advanced Women, Intermediate, and Mixed M/F are all viable divisions at this point! Mixed allows pro players as well so don't worry about asking a pro of the opposite sex to partner up with you for this! Email or PM me if you want a spot.

All unpaid teams please show up near the beginning of check in! Check in is 8:00-8:45

Players meeting at 8:45. The earlier you check in the more robust our players pack selection will be!!

Nate and I set up the course today and I feel folks will be pretty happy with the layout as well as the traditional AFD gimmicks. Hopefully speed of play is not an issue, although we foresee a few holes that will likely be backups. Just remember to keep pace with the group ahead and don't forget to grab the plastic you don't use after driving and putting.

i enjoyed this more than most doubles events/rounds i have played... alternate shot was a great, quick way to play doubles and i thought the warp zones were a cool idea (altho they gave me fits being unable to quite put my disc in the square, but in theory)... i also thought the mini basket was the devil. mr. eric smith, thank you for keeping me laughing on the tee box every time during that second round. i applaud your creativity. patos au gratin, whatever!!!

thank you nate and dion and brianna and anyone else who helped put this on... nice way to sort of kick off the season here in oregon...

I had a great time at another fun AFD! The weather was, at times, uh....challenging. At other times there was actually a bright orb of warm light somewhere above us and that was pleasant. We got to play two rounds with Long and Wrong, two guys I haven't had the pleasure to play a round with before . Funny thing was they weren't that long and they weren't often wrong either!

I liked the Warp Zones and went for it twice with no success. I think they need to be just a bit bigger to make them tempting enough to really impact strategy. The hanging basket we were a little confused by even though it was clearly explained at the players meeting. It turns out that laying up underneath the hanging basket for an easy 2 was NOT the right play!

Thanks to Nate and Dion and the WDGC and anyone else who helped out with another fun AFD!

We got to play two rounds with Long and Wrong, two guys I haven't had the pleasure to play a round with before . Funny thing was they weren't that long and they weren't often wrong either!

Then you must have missed my drive on 18 that landed near the doughnut flags on the practice basket...or the 16 shots we had to take to get an 8 on hole 7...

I had an amazing time all weekend long at AFD!:yay::cheerleader::bowing:

Thanks to Nate & Dion for adding the second day and giving me more AFD than I could handle. You both rock!

I should have taken Monday off work...:headbang:

Love me some BYOP Dubs and the extras at AFD just add to the fun! Great people and fun golf even in shitty weather was still a blast!
