Make this a sticky please mods...
Ok, here it is! The 2nd Annual Camp Taloali Deaf Youth Camp Fundraiser @ Jerry Miller DGC!
Last year was a very successful and smooth tournament with 39 players, 25 hearing and 14 Deaf. There will be things similar and different from last year. This year will be 2 courses again, however, it is not 2 separate 18 hole courses. It will be the first and third round will be a semi safari set up with 11-12 holes on the permanent course and 7 awesome temp holes on the main grounds making a par 64-66. The 2nd round will be all on the Jerry Miller DGC in mostly the Long and there will be at least 2-3 new alt pin placements opened up at this tournament. There will be 1-3 place trophies, better than last year. Player pack for Ams. Feel free to ask questions...

Look up.. :) see the attachment and the note above the attachment. Yes I realize the older versions of MS Words doesn't make the picture transparent as the newer version as someone brought that to my attention and I attached the flyer with no picture. Thanks for asking...

Nathan,
How come there is nothing on their website about disc golf in the activities?
snap7times
February 17th, 2011, 11:29 PM
Excellent question, I will ask. Biggest thing is that the board has controlled basically everything at the camp but has had almost zero input or control over the course so they might be a little out of the loop how well the course is turning out and so forth? I done my best to keep all the websites updated and talk to them often, especially the care takers who definitely support the course project.
There will be a huge work party saturday march 26th all day with lunch provided to get pro tee pads put in on a few holes and fairways cleared plus making wood chipped greens and trails as well as at least 4-6 alt pins put in. There will be plenty to be revealed for the may 14-15 tournament like new tee pad placements and alt pins...
snap7times
March 9th, 2011, 10:57 AM
The board apologized for the oversight on not having disc golf on their activity list on the web.
http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/62889 - 7 players registered so far, but have had 40+ say they would register. I accept both online and in person/snail mail registration.
Making it clear, the trophies are way better than last year and are being done professionally.
Amateurs are getting a super players pack (value over entry fee minus charity donation) and trophies are for 1-3 place in each division. Will only make trophies for the divisions that have enough players in them registered by April 15th.
The work party on March 26th will add a lot of cool stuff that will be used in the tournament like alt pins and longer tee pads.
Also working on getting rubber tee pads.

pre register if you can please...
Work Party was awesome, 20+ people came and helped, got some serious wood chipping done but far from done. 5 alt pins were put in and 14A, the easy peasy hole got dug out and moved to an interesting pin placement. Cant wait to put them into effect. There will be 1 more work party before the tournament. Don't miss this tournament!

"Top Pros" being the key phrase here. If the standard was win three in MA1 before moving up the pro field would be eight "top pros". I'm not saying you should move up Snap, I'm just sayin'. It's sad to see guys winning big tournaments in MA1 or consistently placing in the top ten, and still coming back year after year without moving up.

Hole sponsorships will help this tournament in a great way, so if you can't come play, but want to help the tournament fundraise and be a great success, hole sponsorships are the way to go. Anyone who sponsors a hole gets the 10mm hard laminated sign after the tournament to keep.
$20 for 1 hole, $30 for 2 holes, $50 for 4 holes.

A lot of work has gone into this course over the past 6 months, and more is coming in the following weeks leading up to the May 14-15 tournament. The course will be closed basically from Memorial weekend to Labor day weekend due to summer camps. Get your rounds in now! Will be rotating the baskets on a weekly basis the whole month of may.. As you can see two reviews on dgcoursereviews have been updated to reflect the improvements on the course over the last 6 months. If only cefire could get up here soon...

The ADV field grew a few players this week, where are all of ya? You are missing a good one, this tournament will make each player a better player overall! This will not be duece or die like last year.
The old review versus the new review by "the birdman"/"chainbanger" on the Jerry Miller DGC
-----------
Pros: This is great place for hearing impaired youth. For the purpose of a camp activity and getting kids involved, this course rocks. There were nice signs and spray painted arrows letting people know where the next tee was. The caretaker has done a nice job of clearing the fairways. It has a lot of ace runs, and I find that fun, once in awhile. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This place has really improved over time. The course "Pro" has really put a lot of work into making this course fun for disc golfers. With alternate baskets he has added over 1,000 feet. This area of Oregon is densely wooded, but the course is clear and well maintained (just keep it in the cleared fairways).
Cons: Advanced to pro players will find that it is a fun course to work on the mid-range game. There is no point in bringing all your discs, it can easily be done with five. If not your mid and a putter. I do think that if they have
tournaments out there, they should have some alternates set up. There are definitely some holes that would have to be lengthened.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
BAM, they did all that!... I think the caretaker was listening. bring your full bag! The only con during my round was the inconsistent weather. We had rain, sun, and hail during our short 18 hole round. That's Oregon.
Other Thoughts: Like I said in the beginning, It is a fun place for the kids. They won't have to throw a whole lot, and can have fun. Experienced golfers will wish for more. The course could be a lot more challenging. For instance I am an OK advanced player and shot a -4 the first round and -8 the second time around. All in all, it was scenic and fun with all the ace runs.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This is a course where a seasoned golfer could come out and shoot -10 and the next day shoot a +5. You really need to hit your lines to shoot well. It's not a forgiving course, but it's very playable. I had some really cool birdies, a few bogies and my third ACE....Make the drive, it's worth the trip.

Round 1 scorecard for the May 14-15 tournament is attached.
21 holes. 8200 feet of improving your game! Hole E is a 8-12 foot elevated hole with the river 20 feet behind it and will be an island hole. The island will be a 45 foot radius around the basket with a lay up zone another 90 feet shorter. So concept there is a 90 foot river going through the hole and a real river behind the basket heh... Hole F will be on the bonfire stage, elevated.
Holes 6, 17, B, E, F, G will be elevated baskets. Hole 14A will be the opposite ;)
Round 1 - 21 holes, par 74
Round 2 - 18 holes, par 56
Round 3 TBA

Any update on registration?
If I came down on Friday morning to check out the course (for the first time) which course would be in place (regular or safari)? Is it easy to find your way around? Where would I find directions to the course from Portland? Is it public or do I need to seek permission to play?
Any answers to the above questions would be greatly appreciated.

Registrations are still coming in person. More than 15 golfers said they would pay on friday or saturday morning which is fine with me, the more the merrier. A more detailed registration list is on the tournament page on discgolfscene.
http://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/2nd_Annual_Camp_Taloali_Deaf_Youth_Camp_Fundraiser _at_Jerry_Miller_DGC_2011/registration
I will have the 7 temp holes set up fully by noon friday. The regular course is in place all the time, however baskets will be moved around in their pin placements. The regular course is EASY to find your way around.
http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=3617
Usually polite to call the caretakers as in the dgcoursereview directions but I will be there for part of the day Thursday and most of the day friday getting everything ready.
There is a final work party tomorrow (monday), to wood chip the last of the fallen wood and spread it out on greens and teepads. The teepads will be mixed between carpet (2-3), rubber mats (12), and wood chip. The worse teepads currently will get carpet and rubber teepads.
Hope that answers your questions, if not, ask again and I'll do better...
This layout will make you a BETTER golfer physically and mentally!
The scorecards in the above posts have the holes that are actually being played on them. The scorecards are final set up for rounds 1 and 2! Round 3 will be 23-24 holes on sunday for the final 3rd round.

Out of Bounds and Mandos for May 14-15
Hole 7 to 8 has a white barrel about 270 down the fairway, Mando Left to 8 fairway. Drop zone in middle of 7 fairway.
Hole 14 is mando right of the big tree near 13B. RETEE
The water on 16 and 17 is out of bounds, play from last in bounds.
B – Fenced pool is out of bounds, play from last in bounds. Small fenced area where gas tank is not out of bounds, take 1 meter relief from where it crossed into this area.
C – double mando right of 2 trees in fairway. No dropzone, you must play around these mandos. Horseshoe pit is out of bounds, play from last in bounds.
D – Mando right of tree about 240 on left side of fairway. Drop zone next to this tree. No other out of bounds.
E – “Fake creek” is out of bounds and play from outside side of fake creek closest to teepad. If disc goes into river past the basket, play from last in bounds.
Example; tee off, skips into fake creek, touches the inbounds island and rolls back into fake creek. Take drop zone on outside of fake creek.
Tee off, goes into inbounds island and rolls into real santiam river, play from last in bounds on the island.
F – Mando right of first tree on left of fairway. River is OB.
Players on A and G need watch each other for crossing paths.

You do not want to miss this! There are no courses in Oregon that you can have a bonfire, sleep in heated cabins less than 100 feet from the course, have shelter for bbq and meetings, a river to fish in on your off time less than 30 feet off the course and have HOT SHOWERS and and and.....

Too bad Gawain is missing this to defend his title in an even bigger division than last year. Oh and a much more FUNNNNNNN'er course! The pin placements for the course are INSANELY FUN and challenging for all levels of play! You wont find this at any other tournament in Oregon....
Had a professional "de-limber" climb up some trees and cut down limbs to beautify the holes plus open up some lanes to reduce the luck factor and increase the skill and accuracy factor. Yeahhhh!

:yay: Can't wait to play this course in new pin placements, and I never play more than 18 holes a round before! Good tune up for me before TX11 which is two weeks from now. Woot!

I had a lot of fun this weekend even though I didn't play too well on the 21 and 23 hole courses.
Thanks Nathan!

All I can say that Nathan did awesome job again. :trophy: I am glad that I get to play the course with new pin placements which Nathan and his helpers changed each round. The pin placements were awesome especially basket 14 which is in the underground. I had fun meeting new people and I had fun playing with Connie and Deb. Thank you to the players for coming down, and Nathan's goal for fund raising is to build new playground at Camp Taloali which I thought it was a great idea since the playground is really outdated. I have to comment that if it wasn't for Disc Golf Depot, we will not have the tournaments to play at Camp Taloali so Thank You, Jerry Miller and Disc Golf Depot.

Those who attended the tournament, I would appreciate it if you filled this out and sent it to me or the PDGA so that I can improve the next tournament based on feedback. Thanks. snap7times@gmail.com

Thanks to the money fundraised, Camp Taloali was able to jump start their new playground project, this is phase 1 funded by the fundraiser held in May plus the money raised from the donation box at hole one of the Jerry Miller DGC. So, keep putting in money in the donation box, it does wonders for the course mainteance and projects for the kids!
