the one time i played glow golf i was teamed up with a partner who brought a portable black light and it works sooooo freaking well i want to buy one. my question is do UV lights work as well or do i need to buy a black light? save the LED and battery talk for another thread, i'm not into it.

Ummm... isn't "black light" just another term for "UV light"?

Jonesy Walmart has UV/blacklites for about $10 in the camping section with all the other flashlights. They do work well on my glow putter.

We used a camera with a flash to light up our glow stuff. Black light probably works better, but in a pinch.

I used a camera flash for a couple years, but bought a UV Blacklight flashlight on line for 20 bucks, it has 41 UV led bulbs and it ROCKS. Z plastic is immediately glowing, and my old Photon plastic, well all I can say is...one app needed for the round.

I realize that the taped on stuff is cool because you can throw your regulars, BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IMHO, real glow golf is throwing a disc that glows in the dark without the additives. :biggrin2:
So yeah, get a black-light for a black night.

Seriously? That bright, for a whole round??? I have played with LEDs plenty of times, but have yet to see a "purist" or w/e bring out a flash or black light and glow discs. I am curious if it illuminates surrounding brush like an LED does making the disc SUPER easy to spot. Every time I've seen a disc lost at night with LEDs it has been because of inaccessibility, as it's practically impossible not to see the area it lights up. Anyway, I feel that a standard glow disc could get buried and lost easier. Is that the case?

i have players that do use the black light and a glow disc .but i find it easier with the tape/sticks then to have to get in my bag at every hole so i can make sure my disc is glowing .but whatever you DO REMEMBER HAVE FUN !!!!! I HAVE NOT YET FOUND A GLOW DISC OR LIGHT THAT I DONT HAVE TO APPLY AT EVERYHOLE FOR LIGHT

I have used a black light for glowing. It works REALY well. However I only have 1 glow rock. So I went with the LED's, a battery and tape. I made a bunch up for some friends and they work perfect. Even taped to the bottom of my glow rock.

Remember, we weren't spozed ta bring up batteries and LEDs.

Since it's been mentioned, I will play my tape about using strictly red LEDs, as these will not destroy night vision like white, green, or whatever. Enjoy your night golf (until there are general curfews to save us from the terrorists).

Standard glow's may not be easier to find than one with led's but are still easy.
Imagine if there were a PDGA sanctioned glow round with no additives.
Us old school fella's may have a chance eh?

I have tried them all.

LED are the most expensive at $4 a pop. They last upto 20 hours. Longer if you turn them off and on as needed, but really who has that kind of memory. They are typically the easiest to see in flight as well as in thick.

Glow sticks can be bought as low a .30 a piece when bought in bulk (EXTREMEGLOW.COM) works great, different colors options and can be used two nights in a row if you buy quality products. Can be easily seen in flight as well as in the bush.

Glow Disc with Blacklight cost more than your average disc $15-$20. UV Flash light $10-15 the glow is btrite enough to see the disc in most areas. It just is not as bright as the other options to be seen from that far away.

To be safe, I use a glowstick on my glow disc in case one of the methods craps out.

one of the lucky things about being so old is I have some of the old Photon Glo Plastic, in fact most of it is. And yes it holds a charge better and longer than anything currently on the market. I think I paid like 10 to 12 bucks each. If you can find any nowadays it's 30 bucks minimum. The last one of these babies I found was a Buzzz for a buddy, 2 years ago. It was in Denmark and he paid 150 Krone, about 27 US dollars and shipping. Up until this year I used a camera flash and it worked fine. This year I stepped up to a UV Blacklight and did I mention I have an old style camera flash for sale, I'd take a 167 White Elite X Nuke, or a blue or white Pro D Buzzz, but it has to be under 170...Old Photon, if you find it...buy it.

If you're in the Portland area come play night league at Lunchtime on Friday or Leverich on Saturday and they'll sell you LED kits, with battery, for $1. Money, and time, well spent.

Very good to know. When I have some money, I'll look

holes in your story ... LEDS can be bought at 15 cents a piece if you buy in bulk from radio shack .. glow sticks can be bought as low as 19 cents a piece from glow uinverse of 250 or more .. i buy 1000 and they pretty much last all summer for my tournaments. now battries for the LEDS and BLACK LITE can really hurt the pocketbook

Granted, C4 is some good plastic, but it really requires a detonator. Just landing or hitting chains won't make it go BOOM! It's probably going to take a battery, so might just as well add some red LEDs while you're at it. The explosions will look better at night too.

Battery operated BLACK LIGHT is by far the best option when using factory "glow" plastic such as Discraft, Innova, Lightning, and etc. Of course, test your "glow" plastic beforehand to make sure that it actually holds a glow for five minutes or more . . . preferably 15-20 minutes, in my personal opinion.
You can glow your plastic instantly without blinding yourself, your partner, or the competition. You can find battery operated black lights at party supply places, Petsmart (stain detection); its called the "Stink Finder" if I remember right :chinscratch:
This opinion is formed from personal experience only. And their are several other options as to what kind of glow is used. There are LED discs on the market, I know that Andrew Rich and other people have made discs that the glow sticks fit right into, or you could just tape the glow sticks to any disc and hope that the tape doesn't come loose in the dark.
My favorite option is definitely Innova Champion Glow plastic and a Black Light :yay:

DGA Glowfly- This disc uses the Blunt mold which features a flat driving edge and is made with DGA's glow-in-the-dark standard plastic. This is the most iridescent disc in the industry and seems to glow all night long!

Yes, it does. Summer nights at 46N anyway. For winter nights in Iceland it might take a recharge or 12. :chug: don't we all?
