View Full Version : OR Team DG: Week 8 Trojan ~ under water

I went out to Trojan yesterday with Sines, and we both shot really well given the conditions and water levels. If you want to see the pictures they are posted on my FB page. The only area in trouble because of high water was hole 8, where the basket was actually completely surrounded by water. 10 was close to the water, about a foot, but we both still birdied it. The path from 8 to 9 was however under a foot of water. I think with waterproof boots it should be fun!

It would be nice to have a final determination on conditions by someone out there before the match - Alternate holes could be setup if needed. It would also be nice to have predetermined drop zones on all water holes, so we don't have to keep throwing discs into the water from the t-pad.
Maybe Tom and the OLE crew can determine some of these things - this weekend.
Cheers. :cheers::cheers::cheers:

where the action always is.
anyways, unless there is a mass of rain coming over the next week or so, I personally dont think any changes will be needed for the course.
most of the places that were "too deep" were in places that were not part of the course.
If anything, the course will just play a little tighter.

I'm concerned about the environmental impact on Trojan if we play out there in two weeks. It's underwater now and certainly won't dry out in the next couple of weeks. The ground has to be saturated now and isn't going to get better. If they have the Ole out there next weekend and run 50-60 people around the course for two rounds, then in just another week we hold OTDG out there and run 70 people a day two rounds around the course it will tear the hell of it. Do we really want to do this?

All joking aside, it could be a muddy mess when everyone gets done with both OLY and OTDG. I will be over there tomorrow morning, and possibly Friday to practice my hopeful victory over Disc-ruptures :trophy:, and avoiding the doughnut Darr so aptly pointed out. I'm happy to report my finds and take a few pics of the bad spots.:chinscratch:
DMZ and Steve Sines took some great pics out there Sunday. Those two might be the best people to tell us what they thought about the course, and if it would sustain that much foot traffic in its current condition. :cop:

It is my understanding that we ARE playing Adair the last regular season match.
While I am not worried about playing Trojan in the knee deep water I think Bob brings up a valid point. The impact of that many players would create a mess. I think that we should see how the OLE goes this weekend and make our decision based on that.

I figured that was specific to N. Bonnie and not because of the course change. Of course, having said that, Adair might garner the same amount of bitching because of the woods holes. At least we have less chance of someone drowning while putting out. :rolleyes2:

It should be pretty obvious. If your disc is in water but doesn't sink out of sight you are in casual water. Where the edge drops off is the OB line. Casual water relief rules apply.

Then click Files, 2010-2011 , then click TDG_1011_MASTER2_Rosters_&_Ratings.xls

This is probably a good time to mention that we have reached week 8. This is important because with the replacement rule this year any replacement player has to play at least 4 rated singles rounds to be able to play in the Championships. That means if you don't play at least these last two matches AND play singles both rounds you don't qualify for the finals.
DGOD is exercising their move this week and bringing in up and coming youngster Danny Brown Jr to their roster. He comes in with a rating of 894 for this event and will be playing some singles matches, so make sure to say hi and welcome him to OTDG!
Um.......let me rephrase: Drop Zones for us "sissy little school girls that cry for their moms" that can't throw far? :biggrin2:
Bob
My view on drop zones is for any hole that you are forced to throw over water 8, 12 & 13 we should use one.
Hole 8: On the path where it turns left towards tee 9.
Hole 12: First cement square.
Hole 13: Beginning of path next to the benches.
If you do not want to risk your plastic you may move to the drop zone and shoot your 3rd shot.

Jordan,
I've played Trojan 3-times in the last 2-weeks and encountered a few OB scenarios I want to clarify.
#1 What will be the actual end of tee pad line? Will it be marked?
#6 Start of the real $h!7, Anhyzer route into a leafy muddy mess on the banks left side touching water, or The Hyzer route where you land right of the path. I understand your saying those would not be OB?
#8 Peninsula Disc eater: Left of the path in the woods, on the edge of the peninsula banks touching water, or anywhere in the swampy peninsula is not OB?
#9 The whole area is a bog. But if you can play it, and the disc is not in the water past the grass (Submerged), Then it is not OB?
#10 River of water flowing from the street, only dry area is on rocky bank above, some ankle high muddy areas. If I can reach my disc and stand (Sink) to putt it is not OB?
#11 You go all out with a hyzer and accidentally land on #8 peninsula with a tombstone disc on the edge of the banks. Then putt across the peninsula for Birdie. Any extra penalty strokes given in that scenario?
#12 Casual water everywhere. Throw a safe anhyzer, disc lands on left side of path that is covered by water and floats over path that is fully submerged. Disc is floating over an OB path, but the water is casual water. What's the call?
#13 Will there be any spray paint fix for the 30' x 30' tee pad to assure exact throwing area, or just pick a white mark at whim per group?
#14 Mando off the far end tree before the right turn, or an earlier tree mando, or no Mando?
#15 Mossy path hidden just after the wood pile cutting across fairway. If you land on it is this path OB?
#16 Touching lamp pole or bark OK, but on the Asphalt OB, Right?
Phew, I'm totally gonna catch flack for this one. But I really want to know, as I encountered everyone of these far fetched, bad throw scenarios. Saturday is supposed to be soggy, so these will all come into play for someone.

#12 - Only in the deep water is OB
DROP ZONE
Please confirm this summarization:
"The paved walk path is In Bounds everywhere except on on holes 3, 5, 7, and 15."
Is that correct? Meaning the path is OK on holes: 2, 6, 8, 9, 12. (The rest of the holes don't have path anywhere you are likely to land). Please confirm:
I am In Bounds if I land 100% in the path on holes: 2, 6, 8, 9, 12, (or any other hole except: )
I am Out of Bounds if I land 100% in the path on holes 3, 5, 7, and 15.
I know it's too late for this year, but maybe next year it could be a bit more consistent? How about all paths are OK because it's the dead of flooded winter? Or how about all paths are out of bounds due to general etiquette and safety? Sorry I did not come up with the suggestion sooner.
