Hello Everyone,

Well it is only 5 Months away and will be here before you know it. The staff is busy at work to get things in order and inline with expectations.

A few new members have joined the staff this year or are returning to keep the inspiration at full tilt. We are in the process of ordering some fundraiser plastic and Art review. I have enlisted the services of an artist to work on some disc art and Kel Carver has submitted more Art for this years event.

Jeff Mittl, Coury Coates and Patrick Buckley are working up some new things for the courses so if you are interested in helping out and have some sweat to give contact Jeff for more information or stay tuned into the work party forum.

I have one important question for you patrons and fundraiser plastic purchasers:

What plastic would you like to see this year and what molds ( anything goes but popular will be chosen I am betting). We will be doing foil stamps, CFR and Most likely Super color or an equivalent:

So far these are the suggestions:

1. Glow Teebird ( guaranteed )
2. Champion Whippet

So post your requests and I will pass them onto the fundraiser committee, and I will update the 2nd post with the list of most requested as you guys post.

Glow Eagle-X

Dx Ontario Roc's ( mostly white)

And here is the Art that is going on the discs. Artist is local Golfer Kelly Carver

Hey Mike.
I'd like to see the Champion Groove, Champion Rocs, Champion Gators, and maybe the Champion Destroyers again. :biggrin2:

Brody bud, hate to burst your bubble, but save your money and don't buy the groove, I got to play with one a little and well...It does nothing a boss doesn't do. They seem nearly the same disc aside from the obvious differences in shape, the stability is the same as the understable clear mint boss I have and well yeah, I don't see this doing anything in it's current state for mine or well anyones game in all honesty. But that's just what I've seen from the "test" groove I've thrown.

Something on the flippy side maybe...

Monarch, Sidewinder, Roadrunner

Or overstable mids...

Shockwave, Wasp, Drone

Champion Rocs, really well I think we all know what event gets those exclusively and this is not that event. I will check on the other ones to see if they are legitimate for Fundraisers and add them to the list.

I will look into the disc craft and dga items mentioned as well and see if they do those in a fundraiser package.

Thanks for the inputs keep them coming, keep in mind we are looking for input on items that you or like minded individuals are looking to purchase so ask people who do not post here as well. I expect final date for ordering this year will be the end of March hopefully. This should give everyone a chance to get what they want.

If more than one disc is being considered, I'd say something the big guns will like AND something for us everyday plain ol' players. A Roc or Boss for the big boys and something like the Monarch or Sidewinder for the rest of us. A Teebird is always a good choice too.

I think the Champion Glow Eagle is a good choice for foil stamping, personally I would much prefer the original Eagle-x mold instead of the Eagle-L option.

Cindy,

I would really like to get some lighter weights for the ladies and some of us noodle arms but due to the weighting agent that is added in for the glow, it is really difficult to get a consistent light weight run but I will see what we can do. How light were you wanting to go in the glow?

Everyone else, It seems this forum does not allow editing posts past some time limit so I can not update my post as intended but I will compile the list tonight and have a moderator add it to my post for your reference. Keep the votes coming I am looking to order what you guys want to see!!

I will verify if the Eagle mold is the X mold but I am sure since the Eagle-L mold is also listed on the Innova page that the Eagle mold is the original overstable version. More to come... and thanks for your responses!

For those of you that have thrown the DX Archangel I think you should know that in my opinion the CFR version is immensly more stable, actually overstable. Now the two that I ordered from MSDGC two years ago could have been freaks but they were Firebird stable and not what I was expecting. I will check into this and comment more when I find out.

Those of you listing Archangel disc, were you hoping for DX flight CFR longevity or were you hoping for more stability?

Here is a reply from Dave Dunipace about the CFR Archangel and the glow discs.

"CFR Archangels are more high speed stable. Glow TeeBirds and Glow Sidewinders can be made down to just about any weight in DX glow, but we tend to make them from 165g up. The Champion glow are the ones that are weight restricted." Dave D

So there you go, the Archangel will not fly the same as the DX and the Glow Champion plastic is weight restricted.

Your angels were not freaks, all of them fly drastically overstable in comparison to their dx counterpart. Mike, thanks for getting this all set up. You should also ask when you are ordering if they have any other cfr discs available, I don't believe their online list is 100% exhaustive.

We have been able to tap their resources for trying new things in the past, and being that this year the Golden State is not happening maybe we can get a few more interesting things going. All this is dependent on getting the art off to Innova with plenty of time to be creative.

I am still checking with Dave about the CFR Eagle Mold, there are two molds listed and the Other is the Eagle-L mold so I am pretty confident that the Eagle mold is the original.

I am working up the list so check out post 2 in a little while.

Yeah the online page looks the same as a year ago... Several models mentioned above would need to be molded again to be available for 09. Mike have Innova send you the current version of the custom order sheet. The one we used for the Festivus disc run was current for November.

KC Aviars and KC Rocs will be available for custom hot stamping in 2009! No they won't all be white.

Add me to the list of people who throw/buy drivers in light weights (160-169).

I spoke with Dave Dunipace again about the Glow Eagle mold and here is his response.

Question?
"Dave is the Glow CFR Eagle the X version, I notice you have the Glow CFR Eagle-L and Glow CFR Eagle listed on the CFR page, Innova CFR Program.

Our tournament supporters want to know because they want the Eagle-X for fundraiser discs!" Mike Phillips

Answer!
"We have some X type, but not many. At most we have about 175 left, if the bottom box was also X type. If not, we only have about 50. The ones I saw were 170 172. " Dave Dunipace

Alright, what can't I say about a champion whippet. Oh man such an amazing disc. Let me begin by saying they are overstable, crazy overstable. I have had one in my bad for...5 years? It still flies like it is new, I cannot keep this disc turned over. Innova makes nothing that flies like this disc, it isn't a long range disc by any means, and even with a hard pull I am luck to control it's flight beyond 300 feet. They make an amazingly slow flipping tomahawk, or thumber, they get great distance. They are great for shorter range forehand cut rollers, and forehand rollers in general. Thrown low with hyzer they get good skip on the fade, but on the flip side thrown as a high spike hyzer they sit down fast. They are a slower moving disc, while not as over stable as the Discrap Extreme, they are close. Gazelle aside they are potentially one of my all time favorite discs that Innova has ever put out. A pro or dx whippet just doesn't compare.

While some people may not agree with my theory on this, I would give this disc to someone just beginning to play golf. Learning to throw a slower controlled hyzer with an overstable disc, especially a disc you can start to learn to flex with absolute confidence that it WILL hyzer out is crucial to skill development. These do not take a big arm to throw, but in the process of throwing them and learning to control them, your distance and arm speed will reach new bounds. It's one of those discs I learned on and couldn't imagine playing golf without. (How's that, Flash?)

Oh and Flash add yet another vote, I was told Avery would buy some also, and well if he doesn't buy them I'll buy some for him because I know he loves them.

They added Whippets to the CFR program? You could even sell those on eBay in advance of the tournament. The original candy whippets were made in such limited numbers that people that threw them couldn't get enough.

I think if you did get CFR Whippets, you could generate national buzz by advertising them on the PDGA discussion forum too.

I spoke with Innova discs today about getting the current disc mold order sheet for fundraiser discs and I spoke with Mark Molnar about the Whippet.

So do you want the good news or the different news first?

Here goes you pick which is which......

So Officially we will not be getting the Champion Whippets, they are not in inventory currently nor are they on the production schedule.

However, Innova has Star Whippets available in inventory and Mark claimed they are the same mold as the champion ones but are obviously in different plastic. Would star Whippets fit the bill for those that have voted or do they need to be Champion or Not! If Not I am going to take the Whippets off the Voting list.

Sorry, maybe next time we can get them. Insight has it that they have a 1 year or more manufacturing schedule so maybe we can get it on their schedule for next year!

I have EVERY confidence that Jeff & Flash, along with the Stumptown club, are more than capable of running the BSF. And do it equal to the standard that has been set in the past.

I have EVERY confidence that Jeff & Flash, along with the Stumptown club, are more than capable of running the BSF. And do it equal to the standard that has been set in the past.

I have a lot of confidence in Jeff and Flash, too. And the Stumptown club can do anything they decide to do, in my opinion, so there is that.

Mike,

Will you post the artwork that you are going to put on ontario rocs, orcs, and eagle X's?

Don't tell all of our secrets yet Sean! The art work is going through a few changes but we will put up an image when the items are worked out. I spoke with Mark at Innova today and we are ready to make our order but just need to fix some artwork items they felt might cause problems with the foil.

Stay tuned!

Check out Post #2 of this thread for the discs ordered and the Art work used. The artist is a local disc golfer, Kelly Carver :trophy:.

We should receive the discs in about 4 weeks according to Mark Molnar at Innova. We are taking requests through this thread but confirmation will only be given if you PM me.

Discs are in limited quantities and I will post specifics when I have the discs in hand and inventoried :D

I have nothing to do with the registration for the BSF. I am not able to answer you question - which is really difficult to discern regarding your lack of punctuation. At any rate, I didn't have any problems signing up for the GNO. There were spots saved for folks who preferred snail mail as well.

Here's Mike Phillips reply in another thread:

Well here is your warning for the Beaver State Fling.

We will announce the date that registration will open at least 4 days ahead of time via every forum that we know, through phone calls and emails and casual rounds of golf. Because we will be opening registration for both events on the same day we don't expect to be able to deal with series qualifiers from last year. We will be holding a certain number of entries for snail mail entrants but majority of sign ups will be taken through the PDGA online sign up. I am guessing the majority of mailed in forms will be actually handed in to either Jeff or I without the aid of the Post Office.

OK due to popular demand the Beaver State Fling discs have now been added to the Stumptown store and can be found here.

Stumptown Store (http://store.stumptowndg.com/)

Now you can shop at your own convenience, keep in mind that we will not be able to ship discs out every day so orders will probably go out 2-3 times a week depending on home many orders are placed.

Some discs started with less quantity then others based on how many we ordered, should you have any questions use the BSF website disc contact form and shoot any vendor a question

I think there are several group camping locations available. There are also spots you can reserve, on the other side of the park. I got a spot there a couple years ago for HabRec, and though the amenities were nice and everything, I'd much rather camp out with the disc golf crowd. There was one other site that had tents at it, most of the rest were Ultimate Behemoth RVs.

Plus, the group camping is right by the course, whereas the reserve spots are like a 5 minute drive away.

snap7times
May 6th, 2009, 12:54 PM
That is correct... The regular camping sites are a 5 minute drive on the other side of the park which is quite a ways and a headache to commute back and forth with the winding roads, had a biker wipe out in front of us on those roads before, before the first round nevertheless...
I camped with the disc golfers but in the quiet zone next to hole 8 west tournament layout and had a great time. The more serious party heads and disc golf socializers camp next to the parking lots near hole 1 west tournament layout and hole 7 west tournament layout. No showers nearby but who showers anyways, you can always drive to the campsites and shower there, no actual parking is available though at the showers. The group sites are much closer but are for groups of 50-100.
The river is always an option for cleaning as well.

That is memorial weekend, so I can guarantee that they have all been booked for months. The State Parks reserve 9 months out, so you have to do it really early to get a spot on that weekend. You should be fine to just show up and pitch a tent. My husband and I will be coming on Thursday with our little trailer to stake out our spot in the golfers camping area.

In regards to camping. Can we campout on Sunday night, since monday is holiday? I know the last BSF that was on Memorial day, the park rangers allowed us to stay the extra night.

As for campfires, they also let me have a campfire in portable fire pit in the parking lot by my RV. But you need to get it approved by the Park Rangers. I also remember in years past that the Park Rangers dug a pit for us staying in the group area. NO guarantees. Ask the Park Rangers before you start any campfires.

Yes, please ask before just starting fires or anything else that may be questionable. If we don't have the answers at Tournament Central we will get the answers for you from the Park Rangers. We currently have a super fantastic, relationship at the park and would hate to jeapordise that in any way.

Why are you playing in the event or something?Unfortunately, I don't get to play in the Fling this year. My employer won't let me have Friday off. I am still looking forward to throwing some of the added holes! I really like 8, 9, 12, 18 on the east course and 1, 8 on the west.

Jason,
I know that the baskets can heighten the experience but you can always go throw those holes without the baskets to get a feel for the drive and approach.

Everyone,
I would wait on a few of those holes though until the grass is mowed, it is really long in some areas. I know Patrick Buckley is coordinating the Mow schedules and he is doing a great job of juggling everyone's time available so if you see Patrick tell him Thanks for handling the mowing again this year.

That's exactly what I've done in the past. If you know where the teepad will be and you know where the collar is there is no reason you can't get a pretty good idea of how to play the hole. Putting practice can be done on any old basket.

Use of the C island area last year was limited due to the people who thought that area was for camping. If we can keep the campers to the correct area we could use those hard holes in that area.

Hey now we are all there for the good of the event, if you have an issue either try to fix it or get the person in charge to fix it. This year Patrick Darr is the man in charge of the camping situation and he would be very much interested in your concerns and complaints. Patrick is taking his responsibilities very seriously and will take the necessary corrective actions to ensure a great experience for all.

Here is the Camping Map (http://www.beaverstatefling.com/2009/sites/default/files/Map.swf). We have allowed people to camp in that island in the past marked by C on your map, but it does not identify it as a camping area on the map. If we have a little direction from the Mini Course designers then we can ensure the space that they want to use is available to them and the campers can work around the course layout.

If Gawain will be at the Stumptown meeting Thursday night Patrick and him can work out the details!!!!

I am looking forward to the mini this year and the tournament format Gawain is cooking up for prizes and Top Dog Awards!!!!

I would hope we do not allow ANY camping within sight of tourney central. Its just seems like it would clutter the area up to the point of looking like a refugee camp.

I would hope we do not allow ANY camping within sight of tourney central. Its just seems like it would clutter the area up to the point of looking like a refugee camp.

My remarks were VERY sarcastic, and aimed mostly at the campers in the C area. Must have been sweet to camp less than 100 yards from Tee 1W!
I figured that I could one-up them by just camping right next to Tournament Central! (again SARCASM for those that don't realize it)

There is some slight confusion about the excellent camping map for this year: In the top box titled BSF Camping Guide it says "Tent camping is available in any of the group camps listed below." And then there are 5 areas listed below (A,B,C,D & E). (I wonder where in the A area that is talking about?)
But in the description boxes for each area, the words "Camping is allowed..." only appear in the D & E areas. Hopefully that means that all camping will be in those areas: D is the party spot and E is the quiet after 10pm spot.:pirate:

Meeting adjourned, camping is only allowed in D & E, the reason A, B, C are identified is for the purposes of parking and reference. Locals who have to start on 11E may think they will park their car in A and be all good, but there is no parking in A so the map tells them that!

B is TC and this parking area is allowed for parking not camping unless you are a vendor, in which case we are allowing certain vendors to camp near their booth to protect there merchandise but they must take down camp each day!

C is the over flow parking area for TC and is the primary parking lot given the size and that no spots are reserved. We have let people camp in the NE sector of the island in the past but that may be a concern this year, given our kick arse planned mini course.

D is for the noisy party folks who like the feel of a group camp environment and all the sharing that goes on all night to camp at and kick up some dust!

E. Is for the folks that really like to get their nightly sleep and feel rested the next day, this is a quiet area and if Patrick Darr gets noise complaints about you then you will be asked to pack up camp and move to D if the first visit from Mr. Darr does not quiet you down.

That is even more awesome BSF 2009 news! The noodle-arm mini course utilizing B-1, B-2, B-island and C-island will be over the top! I can't wait to bring back Jordan's over-the-road C shots; I have dastardly new ideas for the B island, and the way we found a bunch of good new holes in the C area last year has me inspired!

Along with the fact that the Flymart will be at the course, and the other new amenities like the clinic, this BSF might even be the best ever! A couple of good spots from a TD's point of view:

Hole 8 W basket area. You can spot the incoming shots on 8 west basket, watch the tee shots of 6 west, the approach shots of 7 west and the tee shots for 9 west.

Hole 17 west tee pad area. You can watch the discs crash the trees on 16 West and the tee shots on 17 west, the tee shots on 16 east and the basket on 15 east.

Hole 12 East basket area. You can watch the 12 east basket and see who has the guts to go for it, you can see the tee shots and basket approaches on 11 east. You can see the tee shots and approach on 13 east and if you squint you can see the green of 10 East.

Yes that is the case, the green is a little more fair on the left position in my opinion but is about 100 feet longer, we are also using the very new Pro pad on hole 15E which you have not seen and that stretches the hole out to about 400 feet.

yes that is what i see, but i "heard" that they were going to play from the top pad thus making it 1 of the hardest 3's on the course playing it last week in 3 days i went 3,4,5..... it would be even harder playing the top pad to the far left placement i would think it would play almost a half a stroke harder than the middle or right placement.

2 Quick last minute questions...
- Is west parking area(Boat ramp) going to closed for thursday practice rounds? If so, when?
- While camping near 7w, what are MG and park officials "tolerating" for camping equipment? ie, grills and outdoor/patio firepits?

We were able to use patio pits at the group camp in '06,'07?
Thursday plans are to put the driftboat in and float the length of the park, but we'd have to change it up if we can't pull out at the lower ramp on Thurs.

Thanks for the help.

A call out to all those authorized to operate mowers at Milo:

* I greatly appreciate all your efforts
* I understand that there is a lot of area to mow, and not that many people to mow it
* I realize that the priority is to mow the course before mowing other areas
* I regret that I never made the time to get trained to mow
* The grass was mowed at least once in all the mini areas, so it is not prohibitively long at this time, but...

Having Said That:

* Having fun playing mini disc golf requires that the grass be as short as possible, a mini is much harder to find than a full size disc, and the minis available today (can you say Zing Mini?) can fly over 300 feet
* Throwing successful rollers with a mini also requires very short grass
* The shorter the grass is, the easier the markings are to read
* I will hold off on installing flags until the last today to permit for mowing
* Don't worry about mowing over markings, they will hold up OK, or I will re-apply them

CALL OUT TO MOWERS; IF THERE IS ANY WAY YOU CAN MOW THE MINI COURSE, IT WOULD BE HUGELY APPRECIATED! Refer to the mini map posted here: BSF mini disc golf course map 2009 (http://home.comcast.net/~accuspeed/BSF%20mini%20disc%20golf%20course%20map%202009.PNG )

Island C is top priority, followed by island B, then the B-1 area, and finally the B-2 area. THANKS IN ADVANCE for any mowing you can accomplish there!

Can anyone play the mini course who is in the tournament or is it only for pros?

Only pro mini players allowed.

Sorry... that just sounded funny. Mini is open to all, I believe. :)

I must say, this will be a first for me throwing a mini on an actual course. When is it going to be available? I should probably pick up one of those mini's that go 300 feet. What are they called? Gwillim you going to have any with a stumptown logo on them?

We don't have any of that specific type, but I think we do have some Ultrastar Minis with the Stumptown logo on them. I'm not in possession of them right now, so I'm not sure. I'll make a couple quick emails and see if any are available!

The new news on the camping is that we are allowed to have above ground patio type fire pits. There will be no holes dug, or fire rigns allowed at any of the camping areas specified on the camping map. If you have an above ground fire pit bring it!!!!!!!

Ben,

Don't worry we will put it up as soon as we can, it will mostly go on the www.beaverstatefling.com/2009/information page, I don't think the PDGA has a column for starting hole unless we can squeeze it into the tee times column.

Also don't get in a hurry on the starting holes and tee times. There is one of me and many of you and I work 8-5 so all of this will be taking place after 5pm.

I hope to have it up as soon as possible, and yes we were waiting for the new ratings updates and now that they are out we are a go. If there are any drops and adds after the information is posted, people will be placed within the location the person that droped was taken from as much as possible.

Oh man this is going to be a great weekend!!!!

There will be many, many types of minis, including then newest, longest ones (Zing, Mini Driver, etc.) available for purchase at the BSF vendor booths, including mine, "SweetPlastic".

Do not miss out this rare opportunity, you won't believe how much fun mini is on an official course!

Maybe I will post it on the PDGA.com thread and see how many people can find it.

I am not worried about people coming to pickup their shirts, I am worried about the phone calls I will get as soon as I post the pictures of people wanting to stop by and pick it up now!!!!!!

Quite a bit of trash on Sunday as well. The large groups that we played through seemed to be policing themselves pretty well. What happened with the "No littering or I'll cut your nuts off" sign?

As you can see, he is a new member of the PDGA and this was his first Rating. He had no idea of his rating before signing up for BSF. I am sure he will be pushed up by the TD's?

not likely at this point. I guess the MA2's just have to go beat him. Why don't we do rated tournaments again?
