I won the singles match in the morning
Chris and Luis won in the morning.
Andrew and Me won in the afternoon
Chris won in the afternoon
Justin won in the afternoon
7th man point

That's 6 for us

Shannon Lost in the morning
Justin lost in the morning
Luis lost in the afternoon
Jason lost in the afternoon

That's 4 for you guys.

If I'm wrong on any of that please correct me.

I guess we'll find out when the results are posted.
We see it different.
I do see you forgot Andrew lost in the morning.
And there's one other match you missed I believe we won.
I also believe we played 10 matches, not 8.
From your posts it appears you awarded yourselves 6 points for winning 4 matches.
That may have some influence on your math.
Provide your address and I'll put a calculator in the mail!

ok, so andrew lost, that makes 6-5.

Morning
1 singles win
1 doubles win

Afternoon
2 singles win
1 doubles win

that's 5 points and add the 7th man point and you have 6 points

If we played 10 matches and we won 5, then it's pretty clear that you won the other 5. Our 7th man point would be the factor that gave us the win but as you said. We'll see when results get posted

Team Grip Lok won 3 singles matches and the doubles match in the morning, and we won all five matches in the afternoon. Add the 7th man point, and the point for winning(which some others of you are forgetting) and the final results are:

Grip Lok. 11
DGoD. 1

And just so you know how seriously HARD CORE team Grip Lok is, we stopped on our way home at Rooster Rock for 9 holes in the rain. Our team felt that the nice weather in the Dalles did not give us a real test for what TDG weather is going to really be like this season.

In the morning round of Sean Phillips (West Side Slingers) vs Brody Miller (Rockwood Roughnecks) Sean had a 4 or 5 stroke lead going into our last 5 holes. Brody then went 2-2-2-1-2 to win by one! The funny part, just a little earlier, Sean and I had chatted about not letting up on the gas because that is the kind of thing Brody tends to do. What a great finish to the round.

Sorosis Park Saturday 10/23/10
Dancing Cows 4.5
Chain Damage 10.5

Disc Golf or Die 1
GripLok 11

Oregon Disc & Wildlife 11
RIPT 4

Aceholes 7
Discrupters 5

Hot Poop 10
Eastside Crushers 5

Sorosis Park Sunday 10/24/10
Putt This! 8.5
Vapor Trail 5.5

Big Winds 5
Old Bad & Sassy 9

Green Bowl Packers 2
Team Skinny 9

Dark Horse 8
Drunker & Disorderlier 6

Rockwood Roughnecks 6.5
Westside Slingers 8.5

The match of the weekend was of course the much debated Aceholes versus the Discrupters. The match played to a draw on match points and went to the total strokes tiebreaker where 584-576 the Aceholes get the bonus match point. They add the 7 player point and get the 7-5 win. But had the strokes gone the other way we would have started off the year with a tie.

The files are posted.

Of course not. If you played 2 rounds on Sunday, then he'd have to divide by 3!

Sausage Fingers
October 26th, 2010, 11:30 AM
You are not taking current ratings and adding rated rounds and dividing by 2, are you? Please say no...

Every round that you play all year long gets put into the average to find your rating. So by the end of the season, it should be pretty accurate and playing really well at the end of the year won't have as big of an impact on your rating.

So I started with my PDGA rating of 925 and played 2 Prelim rounds of 926 and my 2 rounds at Sorosis around 960 or so would give me a 939 rating give or take a few since I'm not sure exactly what my rounds were rated.

Some players started the year with an artificial rating that was assigned to them due to not playing in the Prelims, not having a PDGA rating and being new to TDG. Those players will NOT have the starting rating included in their total. They will be rated only on the rounds that they've thrown in TDG from here on out.

Any more questions?

:pirate:

Sam
October 26th, 2010, 11:41 AM
I just want to make sure that if I am rated 923 and I go out and throw one round of 1023 (it could happen!) that my new rating will NOT be 973. Can you confirm this truth?

Well, without checking the files, I assume that your 923 rated round wasn't just from the PDGA. So your rating will work like mine: PDGA rating + Prelims round ratings + Sorosis round ratings / total number of rated rounds played = new rating for week two!

Now we're talking. Not flawless but better than I was thinking. So... do you keep a number to divide by for each player that grows with each round played?

In other words, after Horning's will my ratings be calculated like this:..

((1) PDGA rating + (1) Prelims round + (2) Sorosis rounds + (1) Hornings' round)/5 (the # in parentheses above) = New rating for Timber

Jeff Hemmerling
October 26th, 2010, 12:35 PM
So... do you keep a number to divide by for each player that grows with each round played? No Sam, we keep a secret number of matches played for each player. Then you can just guess how we rate everything.

You're as obnoxious on the forum as you are in person.

No need to keep a number of rounds played for each player, just use the AVERAGE formula in Excel, it will skip and not include any blank cells (for rounds not played). Everyone keep your panties on; I will write the formula tonight (if they have not already done so).

Here's a fun wrinkle: What if your PDGA rating were weighted by the number of PDGA rounds played? Too late for this now, but maybe next year:

TDG rating = [(PDGA rating x # of PDGA rounds rated) + (Each prelim round rating) + (Each TDG round rating)] / (Total number of PDGA rated rounds + # of TDG prelim rounds + # of TDG season rounds)

But for this year I see it as:
TDG rating = [(PDGA rating) + (Each prelim round rating) + (Each TDG round rating)] / (Total # of TDG prelim rounds + # of TDG season rounds + 1)

Care to kibitz? Now's the time! It won't matter thought, since I am going to do it as described above regardless. Don't like it? Demand your money back!

No Sam, we keep a secret number of matches played for each player. Then you can just guess how we rate everything.

Wow... so since I am asking a legitimate question, would your lack of understanding of this simple concept on the internet translate to the same type of ignorance in person? Never thought of you in this light before but now I am afraid I must reconsider....

That's where I was having the disconnect - whether it would treat empty cells as NULL or as 0. Since it will be NULL, it cannot use an integer (0) to add to the rating total and the number of rounds to divide by. Thank you for clearing that up. I guess my question was not as obnoxious to you since you have more than just a single brain cell upstairs. :)

Here's a fun wrinkle: What if your PDGA rating were weighted by the number of PDGA rounds played? Too late for this now, but maybe next year:

TDG rating = [(PDGA rating x # of PDGA rounds rated) + (Each prelim round rating) + (Each TDG round rating)] / (Total number of PDGA rated rounds + # of TDG prelim rounds + # of TDG season rounds)I was wondering about this, as well. Problem as I see it is you would need to know what the ratings of each round in that formula was - a much more involved process, right? You would need to know how many rounds were used to come up with my 923 and what each of them were rated, as well. No?

But for this year I see it as:
TDG rating = [(PDGA rating) + (Each prelim round rating) + (Each TDG round rating)] / (Total # of TDG prelim rounds + # of TDG season rounds + 1)That looks right to me. Thanks for chipping in with this assist.

Sam

TDG rating = [(PDGA rating x # of PDGA rounds rated) + (Each prelim round rating) + (Each TDG round rating)] / (Total number of PDGA rated rounds + # of TDG prelim rounds + # of TDG season rounds)

Hmmm... let's put some numbers to this...

Me:
[(939 * 39) + (906) + (965*) + (940*)]/(39 + 1 + 2) = 938

Gawain:
[(912 * 43) + (945) + (1010*)]/43 + 1 + 1) = 915

* Not actual - used for illustrative purposes

I like it. I think that that is what we should use for next year, yes. :)

The only differences:
1. Non-current PDGA & non-PDGA players who played TDG last year use last year's TDG rating in place of PDGA rating. (I am thinking about dropping that rating from the calculation after 4 TDG rounds have been played)
2. Non-current PDGA & non-PDGA players who didn't play TDG last year use just the PreLim & TDG round ratings.
3. Non-current PDGA & non-PDGA players who didn't play TDG last year and didn't play Prelims use just the TDG round ratings. (Their starting rating used at Sorosis is dropped from all rating calculations)

Everybody follow that one?

I can double check that, thanks for bringing it up. I'll be watching opera tonight so it may take me a day or so to get to it. We had the newbies helping out last Monday and it was a little chaotic trying to get it all done. I noticed that they got my first round wrong as well and haven't had a chance to go over all of the rest of the scores to double check yet.

Oh, and we have major props to award to Gawain for the improvements in the ongoing ratings file. He used the awesome V Lookup function to import all of the data directly from the Chuck Kennedy ratings files. This will save me major cut and paste time! You Da Man Gawain!:bowing::yay::bowing:

One problem is that if the names are not exactly the same in all files we get missing ratings, so please check to make sure that all of your rounds are present.

We shot an average of 53.87 on that course last year. So checking the chart that gives us 10 ratings points per stroke at Horning's.

If you type www.teamdiscgolf.com (http://www.teamdiscgolf.com) into your browser it will forward you to the Yahoo group site where I post all of the various files that I use to run the league. In the Files section you will see 3 folders with each year's files inside. Click into the current year's folder and you will see all of the files and the weekly folders for individual events throughout the year.

If you're up to it, why don't you come out to Horning's Sunday and meet the team captains. It's a good way to get yourself into the mix. You never know when someone's going to pull up lame or go to jail.

hey jordan did you ever end up looking up the match between joe and tim and see if the results are correct?

Thanks for reminding me Zach! I did forget to double check that match.

After further review the replay showed that incorrect data entry was the culprit. Somehow the scores for Zach's round were entered in for Tim. So instead of the 26-29-55, he shot a 30-31-61. And not only was that the difference in that match giving the point to Joe it was also the pivotal point for the overall match turning a 6.5-8.5 loss into an 8.5-6.5 victory for the Rockwood Roughnecks. The new correct standings will be updated and posted and the Rockwood Roughnecks are not charged a time out due to a successful challenge.

As a side note Tim's round was rated at 899 which changed the Sun PM round SSA to 50.83 and Tim's rating for Sunday is 910. Sorry for the mistake and thanks for prodding me to get it right.

The stat compilation system didn't perform with flying colors last week, so I may have to change something about that chaos next time.:chinscratch:

See everybody out there tomorrow morning at Hornings!
